Benilde completes NCAA women's volleyball Final Four cast with win vs Perpetual

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde ousted University of Perpetual Help System DALTA from Final Four contention after a straight sets victory, 25-15, 25-23, 25-18, on Sunday in the NCAA Season 100 women's volleyball tournament at the Filoil Centre in San Juan.
With the win, the Lady Blazers' (15-2) victory also completed the women's volleyball semis cast along with Colegio de San Juan de Letran (14-3), Mapua University (11-6), and Arellano University (11-6). All other teams below the four squads have at least eight losses already.
Aya Densing led the offense for the Lady Blazers with 15 points anchored on 13 attacks, while Mycah Go had 12 points. Cristy Ondangan had 11 points, while Zam Nolasco added 10 points. Chenae Basarte had 19 excellent sets.
Pauline Reyes and Mika Donig had 10 points apiece to lead the Lady ALTAs who did not field Winnie Bedaña and Shai Omipon. According to a courtside report, it was part of the coaching staff's strategy as they hoped to have a different outcome in the game. Head coach Sandy Rieta told GMA News Online that Omipon was being rested as she was feeling something in her body.
The victory also officially handed the Lady Blazers a twice-to-beat advantage along with Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
Benilde will still play Lyceum of the Philippines University on Friday, while Perpetual will take on San Beda University on Wednesday.

The third-seeded Chiefs, meanwhile, hope to return to the Finals for the first time since 2018. "Ang usapan namin sa training, ang mindset namin is one point at a time lang muna. Kung pupuntos kami, dapat trabahuhin namin," Arellano head coach Brian Vitug said. Before making a Finals return, the Chiefs need to beat the no. 2 team Cardinals first. In their Final Four match last Tuesday, Arellano defeated Mapua, 21-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-13. AC Guinto had 19 points, while Carl Berdal had 13 points in the crucial match. Jiwen Sinuto and Jake Pangilinan also came to the rescue for the Chiefs with 11 points apiece as Adrian Villados made all of Arellano's 19 excellent sets. Letran's Vince Himzon played with injured finger in Final Four match vs. Mapua
By JUSTIN KENNETH CARANDANG,GMA Integrated News Not even injury could keep Colegio de San Juan de Letran's Vince Himzon from giving his all in their Final Four match against De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. Prior to the Knights' semis match against the Blazers, Himzon posted a photo of his finger wrapped with bandage as he was nursing an injury. "Medyo masakit pa po," Himzon told GMA Integrated News after their four-set win against the top-seeded Benilde. [It's still hurts a little.] The injury, however, did not deter him in this game. Himzon had 12 points, the second highest output for the team in terms of scoring following Bembem Bautista's 17 points. It was a good thing that he pushed through despite the pain he was experiencing then. "Nag-chat sa akin [si coach] sabi kumusta 'yung daliri mo? Sabi niya, ire-reserve niya ako sa Linggo. Sabi ko, 'di puwede coach, ilalaban ko na 'to. Nandito na eh," he said. [Coach said to me in a chat, how's your finger? He said he would reserve me for Sunday. I said, we can't, Coach, I'll fight through this. We're already here.] Himzon then vowed to give their all as they aim to reach the finals and topple the powerhouse from Taft Avenue. "Mas maganda pa po ang igagalaw namin sa Friday, paghahandaan po ulit namin and magtutulong-tulong kami and hahabaan namin ang pasensya namin sa isa't isa kasi doon kami mahina," he added. Jake Pangilinan making up for lost time after missing most of his rookie year to care for late father
By BEA MICALLER,GMA Integrated News Instead of on the court, Jake Pangilinan was at home in Tarlac during most of his rookie year last season to care for his father before his passing. Driven by his father's memory and a renewed purpose, the 20-year-old middle blocker is now emerging as a vital force for Arellano University as the Chiefs make their Final Four push in the NCAA Season 100 men's volleyball tournament. "Nu'ng rookie year po ako hindi po ako nakapaglaro dahil namatay 'yung father ko tapos ngayon lang po ako nakabalik," Pangilinan shared to GMA News Online on Wednesday. "Umuwi po ako ng province [last season] tapos nakabalilk po ako last year semis na po pero hindi na rin po ako nakalaro dahil sa nangyari sa bahay po." [During my rookie year, I couldn't play because my father passed and I was only able to come back now... I went home to the province and when I returned last year, it was the semis already. But I wasn't able to play because of what happened at home.] The 6-foot-1 net anchor is turning that heartbreak into his fuel this year. A key part of the starting lineup, Pangilinan consistently provides the help to his veterans in fellow middle blocker Anfernee Curamen, setter Adi Villados, and outside spiker Carl Berdal in their bid to make the finals for the first time since Season 93, following years only reaching the Final Four round. And in one of their biggest games, Pangilinan made sure he gave his best. He posted a career-high six blocks to finish with 11 points in their four-set escape of twice-to-beat Mapua University, helping the Chiefs drag the Cardinals to a sudden death showdown on Friday, where a finals ticket will be up for grabs. But more than the game, Pangilinan shared it's his way of honoring his late father. "Nagawa ko po 'yung dream ko para kay Papa ko po kasi ang gusto ko po talaga ay mapanood po ako sa malalalaking liga kasi ayon po 'yung dream niya para sa akin," he added. "Ang gusto ko lang din po sana is this season matulungan ko 'yung mga aalis na seniors kaya nagdo-double time po kami palagi sa training, hindi po kami nagpapahinga at nagkakaisa po kami lagi." [I was able to achieve my dream for my Papa because what I really wanted is to be seen in a big league, that was his dream for me...
