Benilde completes NCAA women's volleyball Final Four cast with win vs Perpetual
De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde ousted University of Perpetual Help System DALTA from Final Four contention after a straight sets victory, 25-15, 25-23, 25-18, on Sunday in the NCAA Season 100 women's volleyball tournament at the Filoil Centre in San Juan.
With the win, the Lady Blazers' (15-2) victory also completed the women's volleyball semis cast along with Colegio de San Juan de Letran (14-3), Mapua University (11-6), and Arellano University (11-6). All other teams below the four squads have at least eight losses already.
Aya Densing led the offense for the Lady Blazers with 15 points anchored on 13 attacks, while Mycah Go had 12 points. Cristy Ondangan had 11 points, while Zam Nolasco added 10 points. Chenae Basarte had 19 excellent sets.
Pauline Reyes and Mika Donig had 10 points apiece to lead the Lady ALTAs who did not field Winnie Bedaña and Shai Omipon. According to a courtside report, it was part of the coaching staff's strategy as they hoped to have a different outcome in the game. Head coach Sandy Rieta told GMA News Online that Omipon was being rested as she was feeling something in her body.
The victory also officially handed the Lady Blazers a twice-to-beat advantage along with Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
Benilde will still play Lyceum of the Philippines University on Friday, while Perpetual will take on San Beda University on Wednesday.

Meralco Bolts to represent PBA anew in expanded EASL
PBA Philippine Cup. May 30, 2025. Chris Newsome (11) of the Meralco Bolts against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel. (Photo: PBA Media) The Meralco Bolts have been named the sole representative of the PBA in the 2025-2026 East Asia Super League (EASL), marking the third straight time the franchise will suit up in the regional club tournament. Meralco made its EASL debut in 2023 alongside another PBA bet in TNT. That edition saw the Bolts rack up one win against five losses to bow out of the Final Four run. The club returned last year and collected two wins against the Macau Black Bears and Busan KCC Egis, but suffered three straight defeats, including a heartbreaking double overtime loss to the New Taipei Kings, in the next games to end its campaign. With Meralco's participation now sealed, the EASL 12-team cast has been completed. The Bolts are drawn in Group B together with the Black Bear as well as last edition's Final Four teams in Taoyuan Pauian Pilots and Ryukyu Golden Kings as EASL now features 12 teams from 10 last edition. Group A consists of Hong Kong Eastern, Seoul SK Knights, Taipei Fubon Braves, and Utsonomiya Brex while Group C has Alvark Tokyo, Changwon LG Sakers, New Taipei Kings, and Ulaanbaatar Xac Broncos. EASL tips off on October 8 as the league introduces a new format with the top two teams in each group advancing to a Round of 6. —JKC, GMA Integrated News

JM Bravo forgoes final year with LPU, looks to turn pro
JM Bravo is officially moving on from collegiate basketball, opting to skip his final year with Lyceum of the Philippines University as he looks to take the leap into the professional ranks. The 6-foot-3 forward bared his decision to GMA News Online on Tuesday, saying it is a decision he is making for his family. He ends a four-year stint with the Pirates that saw him help the squad reach the Final Four round for three consecutive years. "Maraming salamat Lyceum of the Philippines University Manila sa 4 na taon sa pag tulong at supporta lalo na mga LPU Community, Coaches and Teammates," Bravo said in an Instagram post. "And Buong pasalamat ko sa mga Boss Laurel Family and Lopez Family. Hanggang sa Muli!" Bravo's final season with the Pirates in NCAA Season 100 was marked by personal challenges. Early in the season, he was initially ruled out for the remainder of the tournament due to the spinal injury he sustained in their 95-93 loss to San Sebastian College-Recoletos last September 11. Bravo then had an unexpected comeback early in the second round to provide some veteran presence alongside John Barba, Mclaude Guadaña, Gyle Montaño, and Greg Cunanan, rejoining the squad exactly a month after. ?After two games, however, he collapsed on the floor late in their 91-86 loss to Arellano University on October 19 at the FilOil EcoOil Centre, but Bravo braved through it as well and was still able to finish the season as LPU bowed to eventual champion Mapua University in the Final Four. —JMB, GMA Integrated News ?

Letran beats San Beda for top spot in Filoil's NCAA bracket
Colegio de San Juan de Letran took the top spot of the NCAA bracket in the Filoil EcoOil Preseason tournament after beating rival San Beda University, 75-68, on Wednesday at the Filoil Centre in San Juan. The Red Lions were trailing 69-66 with 1:48 remaining in the fourth period before back-to-back baskets from Peter Rosilio and Mark Denver Omega extended the Knights' margin with 40 seconds left. Jimboy Estrada's free throws eventually sealed the victory despite Zedjay Etulle's late basket for the Mendiola crew. Estrada waxed hot from the field as he had a perfect 11-of-11 two-pointers on top of four rebounds to build 24 points, while Titing Manalili had 15 points, seven assists, and two rebounds as the Intramuros crew finished the elimination round with an 8-1 record. "Ang mahalaga sa'min, get as much experience as we can, get as many wins as we can, para madala namin sa NCAA," said head coach Allen Ricardo. Jomel Puno led the Red Lions with 17 points, five rebounds, and an assist, while Yukien Andrada and Nygel Gonzales had 12 points each in the San Beda loss. Earlier, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde defeated Lyceum of the Philippines University, 100-93, to also finish with an 8-1 record. However, by virtue of Letran's head-to-head victory against Benilde, the Knights clinched the top spot and will face National University in the quarterfinals set on Friday. —JKC, GMA Integrated News
