Gunman Who Killed 4 At Manhattan Office Building Was Targeting NFL Headquarters, Mayor Says

NDTV29-07-2025
New York City Mayor Eric Adams said Tuesday that a gunman who killed four people at a Manhattan office building was trying to target the headquarters of the National Football League but took the wrong elevator. Investigators believe Shane Tamura was trying to get to the NFL offices after shooting several people in the building's lobby but accidentally entered the wrong set of elevator banks, Adams said in interviews on Tuesday. Four people, including an off-duty New York City police officer, were killed. Police said Tamura had a history of mental illness, and a rambling note found on his body suggested he had a grievance against the NFL over an unsubstantiated claim that he suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy. He had played football in high school in California nearly two decades ago.
The note claimed he had been suffering from CTE — the degenerative brain disease that has been linked to concussions and other repeated head trauma common in contact sports like football — and said his brain should be studied after he died, a person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press.
It also specifically referenced the National Football League, the person said.
A motive has not been determined but investigators were looking into, based on the note, whether he might've specifically targeted the building because it is home to the NFL's headquarters.
The shooting took place at a skyscraper that is home to the headquarters of both the NFL and Blackstone, one of the world's largest investment firms, as well as other tenants.
A message sent to Blackstone employees, and obtained by The Associated Press, said a staff member at the private equity firm was killed in Monday's shooting, but their identity was not immediately released.
Surveillance video showed the man exiting a double-parked BMW just before 6:30 p.m. carrying an M4 rifle, then marching across a public plaza into the building. Then, he started firing, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said, killing a police officer working a corporate security detail and then hitting a woman who tried to take cover as he sprayed the lobby with gunfire.
The man then made his way to the elevator bank and shot a guard at a security desk and shot another man in the lobby, the commissioner said.
The man took the elevator to the 33rd floor offices of the company that owned the building, Rudin Management, and shot and killed one person on that floor. The man then shot himself, the commissioner said. The building, 345 Park Avenue, also holds offices of the financial services firm KPMG.
The officer killed was Didarul Islam, 36, an immigrant from Bangladesh who had served as a police officer in New York City for 3 1/2 years, Tisch said at a news conference.
'He was doing the job that we asked him to do. He put himself in harm's way. He made the ultimate sacrifice,' Tisch said. 'He died as he lived. A hero.'

Was Tracy Walker III suspended for 12 games as a disciplinary measure? Internet thinks it's 'something heavy'

Tracy Walker III suspended for 12 games. Source: X Free agent safety Tracy Walker III, who did not make it to any of the rosters this season, has reportedly been suspended for the first 12 games of the NFL season. Though the NFL has not made any confirmation regarding this, the news has been sourced from the NFL transaction wire. Even if Walker joins a team, he would not qualify to play until Week 13. The suspension will likely take effect once rosters are cut to 53 players. Why was Tracy Walker III suspended for 12 NFL games? Internet in a frenzy Walker was drafted by the Lions in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft and was a part of the Detroit Lions for six years but he was cut after the 2023-24 season. The 30-year-old joined the San Francisco 49ers in August 2024 but was released in late September. Walker faced something similar in 2022. Back then, during a game with the Eagles, Walker was disqualified after he lost his temper and committed two personal fouls. Eagles QB Jalen Hurts slid late on a run play, and Walker slammed into him, post which he was disqualified. Though the NFL has not confirmed the reason behind Walker's suspension, the Internet thinks it might be a disciplinary measure. 'Unknown reason huh… Somebody knows!' wrote an X user on the platform. Many NFL fans implied the NFL does not suspend anyone for so long unless something big happens. 'Must be something heavy because they don't do that with ease,' remarked an X user. '12 games... THAT must be One Hell of an 'unknown' Reason!!!' said another. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!

‘Yuck, Disgusting': Man Urinates In Lonavala's Bushi Dam As Another Swims Next To Him

Reacting to the viral video, a social media user said, "Civic sense has plummeted to unseen/unthinkable levels." A disturbing video from a popular tourist spot in Maharashtra has surfaced online. The clip, reportedly filmed at Lonavala's Bushi Dam, shows a man swimming in a stream, and just metres away, another man is urinating into the same water. The footage has sparked outrage and concern across social media platforms. While nature spots like this are often seen as perfect getaways for peace and relaxation, this video has made many rethink venturing into such open water sources. What is supposed to be a calming experience amid lush greenery has now become the centre of online outrage. Bushi Dam in Lonavala is a well-known destination during the rainy season. Every year, hundreds of visitors gather here to enjoy water streams, stairways filled with gushing rainwater and scenic views. But a recent video shot at the location has raised serious concerns about hygiene and public behaviour. In the now-viral video, a man can be seen enjoying in a narrow stream close to the stairs of the dam. As the camera moves slightly, another man comes into the frame, who is seen openly urinating into the same stream of water. The person recording the video is heard warning the swimmer after noticing the act. The clip was shared on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption: 'Zero civic sense! One guy is enjoying the bath while the other one is pissing in the stream. This is the reason why I've stopped going in pools & such streams." Zero civ!c sense! One guy is enjoying the bath while the other one is p!ssing in the stream. This is the reason why I've stopped going in pools & such streams🤢 — Tarun Gautam (@TARUNspeakss) August 6, 2025 Internet Reacts Strongly To Disturbing Clip Since being uploaded, the video has gathered more than six lakh views with comments pouring in from online users. They expressed shock and frustration over such a disgusting scene at a popular tourist spot. One user commented, 'Civic sense has plummeted to unseen/unthinkable levels." Another said, 'I've seen nearby public toilet channelled into such ponds or rivers many times. Never trust external water sources, however clean they may seem." The public act was also criticised for happening in front of other tourists. A person pointed out, 'That too when people, especially females, were passing in front of him," while someone added, 'Yuck! Disgusting." An individual wrote, 'Reason to leave India." 'They take this same disgusting behaviour abroad and then cry 'racism' when citizens of those countries object to their disgusting lack of civic sense. It's not just about taking it abroad; in the digital era, these videos will be watched worldwide, further ruining our reputation," a viewer noted. Back in March, a similar incident caught attention when a man was seen urinating at a traffic junction in Pune after stepping out of his BMW. The video gained widespread attention and led to his detention by the neighbouring Satara district. Later, the man released an apology video, saying that he was ashamed of what he had done. Parts of the Fort Stewart in southeast Georgia were locked down Wednesday after an active shooter was reported on the sprawling Army post, a spokesperson said, according to AP. Lt. Col. Angel Tomko told The Associated Press it was not immediately known if anyone had been injured. 'We are currently assessing the situation but we can confirm an active shooter,' Tomko said. A post on Fort Stewart's Facebook page told all personnel in the locked down area to 'stay inside, close and lock all windows and doors.' Located about 40 miles (64 kilometers) southwest of Savannah, Fort Stewart is the largest Army post east of the Mississippi River. It's home to thousands of soldiers assigned to the Army's 3rd Infantry Division.
