The breach of privilege proceedings against stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra over his parody song targeting Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will begin soon, a senior official said on Saturday (June 14, 2025).
BJP legislator Pravin Darekar had moved the notice against the comedian and Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Sushma Andhare in the state legislative council during the budget session in March.

Legislature secretary Jitendra Bhole said, "Legislative council chairperson Ram Shinde has forwarded the notice to the privilege committee headed by BJP MLC Prasad Lad."
When contacted, Mr. Lad told PTI that the committee headed by him met to discuss the breach of privilege notice, and he had initiated the process of issuing notice to Kamra and Andhare.
In March, Mr. Kamra, known for his no-holds-barred stand-up comedy at the expense of politicians and celebrities, incurred the wrath of Shinde's supporters in March with a song targeting the Shiv Sena President.

BJP and JD-(U) slam Lalu Prasad for allegedly insulting Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal-(United) leaders on Saturday slammed the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad for allegedly insulting Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar by placing a portrait of the Dalit icon at his feet. The BJP media cell circulated the video of Mr. Prasad, in which the ailing leader can be seen seated on a couch with his feet placed on a sofa nearby. A supporter enters the room carrying the portrait and places it close to Mr. Prasad's feet before greeting him on his 78th birthday on June 11, 2025. 'It is very unfortunate that such a shameful act took place in democracy. The act proves that he considers himself a king and does not have any respect for anyone,' said BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary while addressing the presspersons at his official residence in Patna. While showing the video on a tab, Mr. Choudhary further said, 'Not giving respect to anyone and insulting everyone is in the DNA of Lalu Prasad. If there is anyone who has always insulted backward, extremely backward and Adivasi communities, it is the former Chief Minister Of Bihar, Lalu Prasad. His act also proves that he hates dalits.' He pointed out that Mr. Prasad does not evenrespect the party workers and leaders. BJP leader and another Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha lashed out at Mr. Prasad terming him a social criminal. Bihar JD-(U) State president Umesh Singh Kushwaha also issued a statement saying that the insult of Dr. Ambedkar's picture by Mr. Prasad is a direct attack on the self-respect of the Bahujan Samaj and exposes the real mentality of RJD and the truth of its pseudo social justice. 'Lalu Prasad has once again proved that he is a symbol of political feudalism. For him, socialism is just an election slogan, which he has been using just to confuse the common people and enjoy the pleasures of power. It is meaningless to expect respect for Baba Saheb's ideas from a party where democracy and ideology are a mere show,' Mr. Kushwaha said. The JD-(U) State president asserted that people of Bihar will neither accept the arrogance of the Lalu family, nor will they ever forgive the insult of a great man like Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. He alleged that hundreds of Dalits became victims of caste massacre during Lalu-Rabri rule. 'Dalit, backward and deprived society were most affected by the anarchy during the 15 years of Jungle Raj. These incidents were carried out by power-protected criminals under the nose of the Lalu family, which clearly shows that their mentality has been to suppress the deprived society from the very beginning,' Mr. Kushwaha said.

10 talathis suspended in Jalna farmer compensation scam, FIR likely

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Jalna district administration suspended 10 talathis on Friday for their alleged involvement in misappropriating Rs 34.97 crore of crop compensation meant for farmers. This action follows the findings of a govt-appointed probe committee that identified significant irregularities in how the aid was distributed. Jalna district collector Shrikrishna Panchal verified the suspensions and said additional disciplinary actions are in progress. "Showcause notices were earlier issued to all the officials named in the report. Based on their replies and the severity of charges, we have suspended 10 talathis so far," he said. Sources said authorities are considering filing police complaints against the guilty parties. A senior official told TOI: "Departmental action has already started, and the possibility of criminal proceedings, including an FIR, is being discussed at a senior level." The irregularities came to light during an audit of Rs 79 crore disbursed as crop loss compensation for damage caused by excessive rainfall, floods, and hailstorms in 2022, 2023, and 2024. This amount was part of a larger Rs 450crore compensation package for the Jalna district. The investigation discovered claims were made even on govt-owned class-II lands. The investigation revealed that Rs 34.97 crore, from the Rs 79 crore allotment, was misappropriated through fraudulent inclusion of ineligible beneficiaries. The deception involved the manipulation of beneficiary records from Ambad and Ghansawangi talukas, affecting 1.79 lakh farmer accounts. The investigation extends to gram sevaks and agricultural assistants, with departmental proceedings anticipated. Officials continue to examine the remaining Rs 7 crore from the audited amount, assuring that legitimate farmers will not suffer due to these corrective measures. BJP MLA Narayan Kuche and former minister Babanrao Lonikar want FIRs to be filed against govt officials at all levels for allegedly diverting funds intended for farmers. West Bengal clashes: Senior police officers in Rabindra Nagar transferred post-violence

Kolkata Senior police officers at the Rabindra Nagar Police Station in the Maheshtala area have been transferred after communal clashes shook the area three days ago. Forty people were arrested after the clashes, and several police personnel and locals were injured during the violence on June 11. Amidst rising criticism about the clashes from Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, officers Kamrujjaman Molla, Sub Divisional Police Officer, and Mukul Mia, Officer-in-Charge of Rabindra Nagar Police Station, were shifted to new posts. Government sources claimed that these were routine transfers and had no relation to the clashes. Mr. Molla was shifted to the third battalion of the West Bengal Armed Police, and Mr. Mia was transferred to the Darjeeling district in North Bengal. According to an official order on Friday (June 13), Sujan Kumar Roy, previously posted as the Circle Inspector in Ratua, Malda district, will now be the IC at Rabindra Nagar. Syed Rezaul Kabir, who previously served as the IC of Rajarhat Police Station under Bidhannagar City Police, will be the new SDPO. The incident of violence occurred just metres away from Rabindra Nagar Police Station. However, police officials stated that the deployment at the time was insufficient to contain what they described as a 'frantic' mob. Many among the mob charged at the police and injured them. However, Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has accused the police of 'inaction'. On Saturday (June 14), Mr. Adhikari said that a lot of shops were looted, many locals were injured, and businesses were ruined in the clashes. 'IC Mukul Mia is complacent with the ruling party, even though he is a public servant. That is why the people affected in the clashes have refused to take compensation from the police who have failed to protect them,' Mr. Adhikari claimed. He also said that 23 victims from the clash-affected areas of Rabindra Nagar have received compensation from the BJP leader. BJP State President and Lok Sabha MP Sukanta Majumdar said that the transfer of the police officers was 'a blatant act of deception — a dirty attempt to deflect public outrage while shielding the real culprits.' He also called the police inactive and accused that the transfer was a 'drama' staged by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. West Bengal Police have consistently maintained that clashes were between two groups due to a dispute over setting up a stall and have asked people not to spread misinformation. However, Mr. Adhikari has alleged that the violence was 'communal' and shops of 'Hindus' were targeted. He moved court to get central forces deployed in the violence-hit area and sought Governor C.V. Ananda Bose's intervention. The area is now under heavy police deployment. A large contingent of the Rapid Action Force is present as the locality still simmers in the aftermath of the clashes. Only weeks earlier, in April, the State witnessed similar communal violence in Samserganj and Dhuliyan in Murshidabad district, which claimed three lives and left hundreds homeless.
