Naidu calls upon TDP leaders to thwart YSRCP's ‘vicious campaign'

The Hindu4 hours ago
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu called upon TDP leaders to dispel the ''wrong notion created among the public by the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) that Amaravati was flooded, the Prakasam Barrage was in danger due to heavy discharges caused by the recent downpour, and that the Kondaveeti Vagu lift irrigation scheme pumps were not working''.
This false propaganda revealed that the YSRCP intended to derive political mileage by misleading the people. The YSRCP's conspiracy should be thwarted, he told the party leaders, including Ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, Parliamentary leaders and zonal coordinators, in a teleconference on Monday.
Mr. Naidu said while the coalition government managed to keep all of its electoral promises, mainly the Super Six schemes, in spite of constraints in the last one year, the YSRCP was trying all the tricks to show it in poor light. The elected representatives and the TDP cadres reached out to 1.24 crore families and explained what had been accomplished but the YSRCP kept up its mischievous campaign for obvious reasons notwithstanding the fact that the people were acknowledging the good work being done by the government.
Mr. Naidu went on to say that the government filled nominated posts with the cadres who sweated it out for the success of the TDP, in order to reward them. On the other hand, the YSRCP was spreading false propaganda through its media houses thereby 'poisoning' the minds of the people. ''What the YSRCP is doing should not be ignored, lest the people should be influenced by its vicious campaign,'' he said, exhorting the party functionaries to be disciplined and alert to the YSRCP's machinations. They should refrain from involving themselves in controversies, he said.
TDP committees
The Chief Minister said the government would sternly deal with anti-social elements masquerading as politicians, and ordered that the formation of the TDP committees must be completed by the end of August. The TDP cadres have done a great job by securing an impressive victory in the ZPTC elections in Pulivendula and Vontimitta, he added.

Rajnath canvasses in support of Radhakrishnan, YSRCP pledges to back NDA candidate

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday (August 18, 2025) gathered support for the National Democratic Alliance's Vice-Presidential candidate, Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan, reaching out to non-NDA parties like the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). While Mr. Singh has been canvassing in support of Mr. Radhakrishnan, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju has been appointed the latter's polling agent. Mr. Radhakrishnan arrived in Delhi on Monday (August 18, 2025), where he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other NDA leaders at Union Minister Pralhad Joshi's residence and will likely be felicitated at the NDA's Parliamentary Party meeting on Tuesday (August 19, 2025). He is expected to file his nominations for the election on August 20. Soon after meeting with Mr. Radhakrishnan, Mr. Modi posted on X, 'Met Thiru CP Radhakrishnan Ji. Conveyed my best wishes on his being the NDA's Vice Presidential nominee. His long years of public service and experience across domains will greatly enrich our nation. May he continue to serve the nation with the same dedication and resolve he has always demonstrated.' Mr. Singh, meanwhile, managed to secure the support of the YSRCP after he spoke to party leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. YSRCP Lok Sabha member Maddila Gurumoorthy confirmed that his party, with 11 MPs — four in the Lok Sabha and seven in the Rajya Sabha — will be voting for Mr. Radhakrishnan. The DMK is part of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), which held a meeting on Monday (August 18, 2025) evening, for its own candidate for the post of Vice-President. Thus, there was not much optimism in the NDA that it would support Mr. Radhakrishnan, who is also from Tamil Nadu. BJD sources said that since Naveen Patnaik was hospitalised on Sunday (August 17, 2025) evening due to dehydration, no meeting as yet has been called by the party, to consider the issue. The Electoral College for the Vice-Presidential election consists of members of both Houses of Parliament, and the NDA is comfortably placed to win the election. The election was necessitated after Mr. Dhankhar, the former Vice-President, resigned midterm citing health reasons, with two years left of his tenure. The election for the Vice-President's post will be held on September 9.

Welfare schemes not reaching minority groups: YSRCP leader

Mohammed Nasir, YSR Congress Party State official spokesperson, on Monday urged the State government to resolve petitions from members of the Muslim community as many eligible persons have reportedly been denied social security pensions, ration cards, and the Talliki Vandanam and other schemes. Speaking to media, he said that people belonging to the minority communities were being treated as second-class citizens in Andhra Pradesh after the formation of the NDA government in the State. Mr. Nasir who was former director of AP Minorities Corporation met former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in Vijayawada, a couple of days ago and thanked Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy for appointing him as the official spokesperson of the minority wing. 'The ruling Telugu Desam Party, in alliance with the BJP, is discriminating in the selection of beneficiaries for the government schemes. Hundreds of Muslims women are visiting government offices to get the benefits of Talliki Vandanam and social security pensions, but in vain,' said He asked the government to conduct a socioeconomic survey of the 40 lakh Muslims and other marginalised groups in the State to known their plight and take corrective measures to ensure they also receive the benefits on par with other sections of society.
