Khloé Kardashian used to want to be skinny. Now she's all about muscle, protein and a bigger butt.

Yahoo01-05-2025
In her 20s, Khloé Kardashian didn't keep track of how much water she drank, she didn't own matching workout sets and, in accordance with body ideals of the early 2000s, she saw thinness as a pillar of fitness and beauty. 'We weren't carrying around a hydro jug of water every day or tracking our intake,' she tells Yahoo Life. 'It was more like, 'Let's take diet pills and not eat.''
Fast-forward two decades, and Kardashian is in a different place altogether. At 40, she's getting more water and protein, focusing on strength rather than a number on the scale and, best of all, enjoying the process. 'I definitely think I look better now, but also feel better now than I did when I was in my 20s,' she says.
Over the years, she's become the Kardashian sister most closely associated with the world of fitness. She's hosted Revenge Body on E!, written the book Strong Looks Better Naked and collaborated with the athleisure brand Fabletics. But her relationship with the gym and her body, she says, is ever-changing.
'Now I have different goals. It's not that I'm trying to hit a weight goal. I work out because of what it does for me mentally,' Kardashian says. 'It makes me happier, I have more clarity [and] I feel like I have more energy.'
Her current focus has a lot to do with her desire to be the best mom for her two children, daughter, True, 7, and son, Tatum, 2, whom she shares with her ex-boyfriend, NBA player Tristan Thompson.
'When I stay up on my health and up on my strength, I'm active with my kids,' the reality star says. 'I'm running around and swimming [with them].' She works out four to five days a week, she says. 'If I'm stressed or having a bad day, I do let it out in the gym, as opposed to snapping on my kids or something like that.'
In that sense, 'therapy really is in the gym for me,' she adds. 'Whether it's the music that I'm blasting or getting these endorphins up, whatever it is, it's just what I need.' But she still has her sights set on physical targets as well.

'I love muscle, and that's the stage I'm at. I want to build triceps or build bigger legs and have more muscle definition,' she says. 'Working out I have down pat, and I'm great at it. I think the hardest part for me is my protein intake.'
Yep — like a lot of Americans, Kardashian is preoccupied with protein, the macronutrient du jour that's gotten a big boost thanks to the rise of GLP-1 weight loss medications. In Kardashian's case, however, it's down to age and what protein can do to offset muscle loss. 'I see how beneficial it is for you to have muscle mass when you're older — yes, in my 40s, but even in your 60s and 70s to be able to, you know, walk without assistance,' she says.
The conversation is constantly popping up on her social media feeds. It also inspired her to come out with her own line of protein-packed popcorn to make her nutrition goals easier to hit. And it's not the only new project tied to 'health and fitness and longevity' she's got in the works. Her new By Khloé line of workout garments for Fabletics is designed to motivate her to keep upping her fitness game.
'I think when you feel good and confident in your workout clothes, then you are more comfortable to go to the gym and work out,' Kardashian says, recalling a time when she exercised in 'really baggy T-shirts and sweats' because she felt insecure in her body. 'It does sound really superficial, but when I started investing in workout clothes, I was like, 'OK, let me just try to play the part at least and pretend I know what I'm doing,' I noticed I would actually work out harder. I would be a little bit more dedicated in the gym.'
Kardashian would reward herself for hitting certain fitness goals by buying a new workout outfit. 'It's silly, but it's actually how I got through.' And as time goes on, she finds that it still helps — especially if the garments put the results of her hard work on display. Which brings us to … the butt.
'I feel like it's always about the butt. Big or small, we all just want it to be perky and look right and tight. Especially the older you get, you know, gravity [takes] a toll,' she says. Enter her new TLC workout leggings, which feature a heart-shaped seam that gives the bottom a peach-like appearance. '[It] tones and lifts and contours,' Kardashian says. 'You just feel good, even if you have to fake it until you make it a little bit.'
If the butt-enhancing leggings sound familiar, it might be due to sister Kim's own recent launch of the Ultimate Butt shapewear collection for Skims. 'What's funny is Kim and I didn't talk about our designs, but there's similarities to both of ours,' she says. '[We] have a similar aesthetic with things that we like anyhow, so it doesn't surprise me.'

Dean Cain defends new role with ICE, says he's being 'pilloried and attacked'

Dean Cain is hitting back at those criticizing his recent decision to join the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" star, in an appearance on "Piers Morgan Uncensored" on Aug. 11, said his decision to join the agency stemmed from wanting to support ICE officers. "I'm 59 years old and I've joined ICE," Cain said on the show. "Go ahead and denigrate my career. But what I'm doing is I'm standing up for the men and women of ICE. I'm a sworn deputy sheriff. I'm a reserve police officer. I have been for almost a decade now." Cain went on to defend ICE officers, saying they are being "vilified," "attacked" and "doxed" for "trying to their job" that the "American people hired them for" and the "Congress wrote laws for." "They're doing it very, very well," Cain said, appreciating ICE agents. Cain '100% proud' to stand with ICE agents The actor said the criticism started when he did a recruitment video for ICE, prompting some to think he had "actually joined" the agency. He then spoke with ICE officials and decided to officially join the agency and be sworn in. "I'm 100% proud to stand with our agents of ICE," Cain said on the show. "I love these people. They're wonderful men and women and husbands and fathers of every ethnicity, every race, every background." Cain also took a dig at John Oliver, who on a recent show had blasted the former's decision to join the federal immigration enforcement agency, which has come under scrutiny for aggressively deporting tens of thousands of undocumented immigrants in President Donald Trump's second term. "I'll happily take the jibes of John Oliver," Cain remarked. "I'm being pilloried and attacked for joining up with a law a federal law enforcement agency. (It) is insane. I did it to protect Americans and to protect our men and women of ICE." Untrained former actor? When political strategist Tim Miller, the show's other guest, asked Cain if he knows what rights an individual has if he shows up "at the door of someone's home as an ICE agent," Cain responded by saying he's "not an ICE agent yet" and is yet to undergo training. "So yeah, you're an untrained former actor," Miller said in response. "I'm a former actor," Cain said. "I'm a former professional football player, too. So, want to run down your resume? I mean, it's so stupid." "Denigrating somebody because they're doing this because of what they used to do or what they do or whether they're an actor or a writer or a newscaster is ridiculous. It's an ad hominem attack," Cain asserted, reminding viewers again of his law enforcement background. Saman Shafiq is a trending news reporter for USA TODAY. Dolly Parton gives the best advice. The country singer, 79, drew on her experience losing her husband, Carl Dean, earlier this year as she offered heartfelt words to Kelly Clarkson following Clarkson's ex-husband Brandon Blackstock's death. 'I think you just have to be grateful for the years that you've had with someone and you just try to remember the very best of all that,' Parton told Entertainment Tonight in an interview published Tuesday. Helen Mirren Tells Jimmy Fallon That Tomatoes Are Bisexual

Let's get right to it. This week, Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan appeared on Jimmy Fallon's talk show to discuss their new film, The Thursday Murder Club. During their chat, Jimmy prepared a homemade tomato salsa for his guests to taste — prompting Helen to share a random fact she recently learned about the fruit. 'I just want to give you a tip about growing tomatoes,' she began. 'You know the little flower? Well, a good way to get a tomato out of a flower is you have to tremble the flower,' she said while wiggling her finger. An uncomfortable-looking Jimmy replied, 'Stop doing that. I don't know what's going on, I don't know what's happening.' 'I'm not doing that at all to my tomatoes,' he said as he burst out laughing. 'Killing it is one thing, doing that is something else.' This prompted Helen to share that she believes tomatoes are bisexual. 'A tomato is a bisexual thing,' she declared, prompting laughter from Jimmy and the audience. 'Well, it is!' she insisted. 'I looked it up very recently because I had a problem with my tomatoes. So, it's bisexual. So you have to go around to each flower and go like this,' she said as she wiggled her finger again. Seemingly eager to move the conversation along, Jimmy hastily replied, 'Yes, I got you, I understand, I understand. Each one.' Tomatoes, which contain both male and female reproductive parts, are indeed able to self-pollinate with the help of a gentle 'jostle.' Unsurprisingly, Helen's quotes have already picked up steam online and are becoming a bit of a meme. Reacting to a headline from E! News that reads, 'Helen Mirren Says Tomatoes Are Bisexual,' one person joked, 'Words are being said that were never said before.' Meanwhile, some users couldn't get over Jimmy's awkward reaction to the entire thing. 'Watching Jimmy blush and be uncomfortable discussing sexuality in tomatoes is priceless,' one person commented on YouTube. LOL. You can watch the moment right here at roughly the 2:00 minute mark.
