Kyler Murray, Cardinals starters set to play vs. Chiefs this weekend
Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon told reporters in his Tuesday press conference that starters, including Murray, will play in the club's preseason opener against the Chiefs.
'I told them last night, they're going to play,' Gannon said.
While this is a change from previous years, Gannon noted that he feels it's the best thing for the team entering his third season as head coach.
Given head coach Andy Reid's history, there may be two teams with starters on the field in Arizona this weekend.
The Cardinals started 1-3 last season after beginning 2023 1-8. So this could be an effort to help the team get off to a better open to the regular season.
Arizona finished last year 8-9, losing five of its seven games after a Week 11 bye.

STORY: Disney's ESPN reached a landmark deal with the National Football League to acquire NFL Network, as well as other league media properties, on Tuesday. :: Kansas City Chiefs In exchange, the NFL will take a 10% equity in the sports network. Both parties on Tuesday confirmed the deal, which is still subject to regulatory approval. The Athletic, citing sources, reported it could potentially be worth billions of dollars. ESPN declined to comment on the figure, but said the deal would bolster the offerings on its upcoming ESPN streaming service, which will cost $29.99 per month, and could launch by the end of August, according to Disney's CEO. It will provide access to ESPN's popular studio shows, as well as its wide portfolio of professional and college sports. Under the new agreement, ESPN would own and operate the TV and streaming rights to the NFL Network, which will continue to carry seven games a year. Meanwhile, the league will continue to own, operate, and produce NFL RedZone, a service that allows fans to watch scoring highlights. The league also will retain ownership of certain media properties, such as NFL Films, and platforms such as the NFL Podcast Network and NFL+.

Arizona Cardinals, OL Will Hernandez expected to reach deal
Hernandez, who was the Cardinals' starting right guard 2022-2024, visited the team Monday. The Arizona Cardinals had free agent offensive lineman Will Hernandez in for a visit this week. They are expected to reach a deal for him to return to the team. According to Arizona Sports 98.7 FM's John Gambadoro, both sides would like to get a deal done, and he expects a contract to be agreed upon soon. Hernandez spent the last three seasons as the Cardinals' starting right guard. He tore his ACL in Week 5 last season and only recently was medically cleared for football. Since then, 2024 third-round pick Isaiah Adams has been moved into Hernandez' old starting job. If Hernandez is re-signed, it does not mean that Adams will move to the bench. In fact, since Hernandez has not participated in any training camp, Cards Wire's Howard Balzer believes the Cardinals would start Hernandez on PUP, potentially having him start the season there, where he would have to miss the first four games, at least. Hernandez would give the Cardinals proven starter-quality depth behind Adams and the Cardinals wouldn't miss a beat should someone get hurt. Arizona Cardinals 53-man roster projections before preseason opener
The Arizona Cardinals have a preseason game this week as they face the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday at State Farm Stadium. Training camp is coming to an end. We are closer to when they must trim down their roster to 53 players. With what we have learned in camp so far, this is a new 53-man roster projection for the Cardinals. Arizona Cardinals 53-man roster projection: Preseason Week 1 Offense Quarterback: Kyler Murray, Jacoby Brissett Running back: James Conner, Trey Benson, Emeri Demercado, DeeJay Dallas Both positions seem like locks. Barring injury, there doesn't seem to be any possible movement. Clayton Tune is set for the practice squad and the same goes for Michael Carter, just like last season. Wide receivers: Marvin Harrison Jr., Michael Wilson, Zay Jones, Greg Dortch, Simi Fehoko It sounds like Xavier Weaver needs to show a little more, and the Cardinals can just go with five wideouts to accommodate for the offensive lineman. Fehoko's salary guarantees keep him here for now. Tight ends: Trey McBride, Elijah Higgins, Tip Reiman, Travis Vokolek The only possibility here changing might be keeping only three on the active roster to accomodate for a position somewhere else. Offensive line: Paris Johnson, Evan Brown, Hjalte Froholdt, Isaiah Adams, Jonah Williams, Kelvin Beachum, Will Hernandez, Jon Gaines, Christian Jones, Hayden Conner Hernandez isn't on the team but the belief is that he will be soon. We keep 10 offensive linemen to keep Jones and Conner. Defense Defensive line: Calais Campbell, Dalvin Tomlinson, Darius Robinson, Dante Stills, Justin Jones, L.J. Collier I still expect Walter Nolen and Bilal Nichols to start the season on PUP, so they won't count toward the 53-man roster, making their additions a future problem. Outside linebacker: Josh Sweat, Zaven Collins, Baron Browning, BJ Ojulari, Jordan Burch Ojulari is a guy to watch. He still is on PUP. Could he be traded if healthy? There wasn't room for Xavier Thomas. Inside linebacker: Mack Wilson, Akeen Davis-Gaither, Owen Pappoe, Cody Simon, Mykal Walker This group is probably a lock. Walker is there for special teams. Cornerback: Garrett Williams, Max Melton, Will Johnson, Kei'Trel Clark, Denzel Burke Jaylon Jones, being a solid special teams guy, is a player to watch who could move past Clark. Safety: Budda Baker, Jalen Thompson, Dadrion Tayor-Demerson, Joey Blount I'm not picking Kitan Crawford over Blount for special teams yet.
