Clerk headbutted during theft at Guelph store
Waterloo Regional Police said it happened at a downtown business around 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The clerk told the officer the man came into the store and went behind the counter.
When he tried to open a cigarette cabinet, the clerk stopped him.
In response, the man headbutted the employee.
Police said there was a physical altercation in which the clerk was repeatedly punched.
Merchandise was knocked over and damaged during the struggle.
Police said the man left with a pack of cigarettes without paying.
He was arrested a short time later.
The 36-year-old was charged with assault, theft under $5,000 and mischief under $5,000.

York Regional Police said they were called to that area at 7 p.m. for reports of collision involving a motorcycle and a car. Investigators said both vehicle were travelling southbound on Fossil Hill at the time of impact. It is not known at this time how the vehicles came together or who caused the crash. Police said the driver of the car did not remain on scene. Traffic is closed in all directions in that area due to the investigation. Motorists should expect delays and use alternate route, police said.
