Cyril Ramaphosa's shoelace-tying shopping mall moment goes viral

President Cyril Ramaphosa added a heartwarming task to his public duties this week: Tying a child's shoelaces. During a walkabout at Canal Walk Shopping Centre in Cape Town, the president paused his greetings to help a young girl whose shoelaces had come undone. In a moment trending on social media, Cyril Ramaphosa was seen placing his phone and bag on the ground before crouching down to tie the laces himself – an act met with smiles, applause, and a chorus of 'Awww' from the surrounding crowd. The unplanned gesture drew praise across platforms, with many South Africans celebrating the president's humility and calling the moment 'classic Cupcake' – referencing his long-standing nickname. While the shoelaces themselves declined to comment, the online verdict was clear: It was a presidential knot well tied. @moziarora What an honour being up close to the one and only @President Ramaphosa❤️🙏🏾.. ♬ original sound – Moziarora Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1 Subscribe to The South African website's newsletters and follow us on WhatsApp, Facebook, X and Bluesky for the latest news.

World's top TikToker Khaby Lame detained by US immigration

US immigration agents detained and later allowed the 'voluntary departure' of the world's most-followed TikToker, Khaby Lame, after he 'overstayed' his visa, authorities said on Saturday. 'US Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained Seringe Khabane Lame, 25, a citizen of Italy, June 6, at the Harry Reid International Airport, Las Vegas, Nevada for immigration violations,' the agency said in a statement to AFP. Lame entered the United States on April 30 and 'overstayed the terms of his visa,' the statement said of the Friday detention, adding that he was released the same day. Not posted The Italian national, who is a UNICEF goodwill ambassador and has a following of more than 162 million on TikTok, 'has since departed the US.' Lame had not immediately posted publicly about the incident as of Saturday afternoon. Since taking power in January, US President Donald Trump has delivered on campaign promises to tighten immigration controls and carry out a mass deportation drive – aspects of which have been challenged in US courts. Lame holds top spot on the wildly popular TikTok social media app, with 162.2 million followers and has risen to fame for his short silent videos mocking the convoluted tutorials and tips that abound on the internet. He punctuates his videos with a trademark gesture – palms turned towards the sky, accompanied by a knowing smile and wide eyes – as he offers his own simple remedies. The idea for his content came to him while wandering around the housing project where his family lived in Chivasso, near Turin, after losing his factory mechanic's job in March 2020. His posts took off – helping him gross an estimated $16.5 million through marketing deals with companies in the period between June 2022 and September 2023, according to Forbes. WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair diagnosed with cancer

WWE legend Ric Flair has revealed he is facing skin cancer for the second time in three years. The 76-year-old wrestling icon, known as 'The Nature Boy,' confirmed he will begin treatment next week. Flair initially denied the diagnosis last month, wishing to keep the news private, but has now decided to share the update with his fans. Flair said in an interview, 'It's the second time in three years that I've been dealing with skin cancer. I will be undergoing treatment next week.' He acknowledged the emotional toll of the diagnosis, reflecting on his past health battles. 'I've been hit by lightning, broke my back, but nothing like this,' he said. The wrestling legend has endured a series of serious health scares over the past decade. In 2017, Ric Flair was hospitalised with severe stomach pains and underwent surgery to remove an obstructed bowel, according to the Daily Mail. Doctors placed him in a medically induced coma, and he faced early kidney failure and congestive heart failure, complications linked to years of alcohol abuse. Doctors gave him only a 20 percent chance of survival, but he defied the odds and recovered. Doctors rushed Ric Flair to hospital in 2019 for a 'very serious' medical emergency, and he later underwent successful heart surgery. He has openly discussed his battle with alcoholic cardiomyopathy, a heart condition caused by prolonged alcohol use. 'I had one vice,' Flair admitted. 'My vice was drinking. I didn't have any other addiction problems'. Despite these challenges, Ric Flair remains one of the most celebrated figures in professional wrestling history. He boasts 16 WWE world championship titles and is the only WWE Superstar inducted into the Hall of Fame twice. Once individually and once as part of the Four Horsemen stable. His flamboyant style, signature 'Woo!' catchphrase, and charismatic persona have made him a global icon. Flair's daughter Charlotte has followed in his footsteps, becoming a major WWE star herself, often appearing alongside him at wrestling events. Flair's personal life has also seen ups and downs; he recently announced his split from his fifth wife, Wendy Barlow. He thanked for standing by him during his health crises. Flair's resilience and fighting spirit resonate deeply. His story is one of battling adversity both inside and outside the ring. As he prepares for this new fight against cancer, many will be rooting for his recovery. Flair's legacy as a wrestling legend and survivor continues to inspire across the globe. In his own words, Flair urged support and solidarity: 'In trying times, let's root for our heroes and each other. Together, we're stronger.'
