BJP chief calls for agitation against Congress govt's failures
Addressing party workers in Nalgonda and Suryapet on the first day of his two-day tour in the Nalgonda district on Monday, he said the people of Telangana have begun to regret voting the Congress to power, having been misled by its hollow promises that deceived both farmers and students. He asserted that the public is now looking towards the BJP as the only political force capable of establishing a 'golden and truly democratic government' that represents the poor and downtrodden.
'Let us build a Viksit Telangana with a double engine sarkar—with governments at both the state and the Centre. I appeal to the people to give BJP a chance in the next elections,' Rao stated.
Speaking on ensuing local body elections, he said that the party will contest in all places independently.
During his two-day tour of the Nalgonda and Suryapet districts, Rao asked party workers to prepare for all upcoming elections, including the proposed local body elections. He confirmed that BJP would contest independently at every level, from village panchayats to ZPTC seats.
The former MLC criticized the state government on the issue of ration cards and welfare schemes and demanded that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy-led Congress government ensure ration cards for all eligible poor families. He alleged that the distribution was being politically manipulated to benefit only Congress supporters.
He criticized the state government for taking credit for the free rice scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, which is fully funded by the Centre. Besides, the state government had even removed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's photos from ration shops to downplay central contributions.
Reiterating his party's stand on the religion-based reservations, he said, on the contentious issue of 42% BC reservations, Ramchander Rao clarified that the BJP supports social justice but opposes religion-based quotas. He said such reservations would harm the backward classes and violate constitutional principles.
He noted that the Supreme Court had already struck down similar religion-based quotas in the past. He urged the Backward Classes (BC) community to mobilize and protest against the Congress government's misuse of the reservation policy.
Terming the Congress party as a puppet of the Gandhi family, he accused Congress of becoming a 'slave to the Sonia Gandhi family.' And termed Chief Minister Revanth Reddy as a pawn in their hands.
'Just as we fought against the Nizam rule to liberate Telangana, we must now fight to free Telangana from the clutches of the Gandhi family,' Rao declared.
Raising the issue of Urea supply to Telangana, the state BJP chief refuted Congress' allegations of urea shortage being caused by the Centre. He stated that the central government had supplied 12 lakh metric tonnes of urea. This, against the state government's request of nine lakh metric tonnes.
'Who is responsible for the black marketing and scarcity? The state government must be held accountable,' he said.
Earlier, when the Rao began his two-day tour from Nalgonda, he interacted with farmers, youth, intellectuals, and party workers. He received a warm welcome from BJP workers and local associations en route. At Chowtuppal, senior BJP leader G. Manohar Reddy described Rao as a 'silent missile' who would expose and defeat the deceitful governance of both the Congress and BRS. Before addressing a massive party workers' gathering in Nalgonda town, Rao visited the Venkateshwara Temple and paid tribute by garlanding the statue of Gundagoni Maisamma Goud, a martyr of Naxalite violence.
In Suryapet, Rao inaugurated the district BJP office and hoisted the party flag, marking the beginning of a new phase of grassroots mobilization in the region.
Senior party leaders District BJP President Nagam Varshat Reddy,
Anji Reddy – MLC, former MP Burra Narsaiah Goud, former MLA Shanampudi Saidireddy, State Vice President Gangidi Manohar Reddy, State General Secretary Kasam Venkateshwarlu attended the Nalgonda meeting with large participation, especially by women party workers.
Rao concluded the first day of his tour with a night halt in his native village Nallabandagudem, located in the Kodad Assembly constituency. He will resume his campaign on Tuesday with visits to local temples and continued interaction with the public.

SC to hear pleas for review of 2022 verdict upholding ED powers on Jul 31
The Supreme Court on Tuesday fixed July 31 for hearing a batch of pleas seeking review of the 2022 verdict that upheld the Enforcement Directorate (ED) powers of arrest and attachment of property involved in money laundering, search and seizure under PMLA. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi adjourned the matter, which was listed for hearing on Wednesday, to July 31 after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, said he was not available. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the petitioners, said he has no objection, if the matter is listed on July 31. On May 7, the top court asked the Centre and the petitioners to frame issues to be adjudicated in challenge to a verdict which upheld the ED's powers to arrest and attach property of the accused. The Centre had contended that the hearing on the review petitions cannot go beyond the two specific issues flagged by the bench which issued notice on the petitions in August 2022. Sibal had earlier submitted that the matter was required to be referred to a larger bench. Mehta had contended that the bench, which considered the review petitions for admission in August 2022, issued notice only on two aspects - the supply of the ECIR copy to the accused and reversal of burden of proof under Section 24 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The apex court in July 2022 upheld the ED powers of arrest and attachment of property involved in money laundering, search and seizure under PMLA. In August the same year, the top court agreed to hear pleas seeking review of its verdict and observed that two aspects "prima facie" required reconsideration. Observing money laundering was a "threat" to the good functioning of a financial system world over, the apex court upheld the validity of certain provisions of the PMLA, underlining it was not an "ordinary offence". The top court said authorities under the 2002 law were "not police officers as such" and the ECIR could not be equated with an FIR under the Code of Criminal Procedure. The supply of an ECIR copy in every case to the person concerned was not mandatory and it was enough if the ED, at the time of arrest, disclosed the grounds for it, it added. The 2022 verdict had come on a batch of over 200 petitions questioning various provisions of the PMLA, a law the opposition often claims is weaponised by the government to harass its political adversaries. Section 45 of the PMLA, which deals with offences to be cognisable and non-bailable and have twin conditions for bail, is reasonable and does not suffer from the vice of arbitrariness or unreasonableness, the top court said.

Illegal constructions will not be spared, strict action against erring officials: Maharashtra deputy CM
MUMBAI : The Maharashtra government will not support any illegal constructions and take strict action against officials found complicit in allowing such structures to come up, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said in the legislative assembly on Monday. Replying to a query raised by Parag Alavani (BJP) during the Question Hour, he said instructions will be issued to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner to prepare a detailed list and classification of illegal constructions in the metropolis. "If any officer is found protecting illegal structures, stringent action will be initiated against him," warned Shinde, who holds urban development and housing portfolios. Members Yogesh Sagar, Jitendra Awhad, Dilip Walse Patil, Varun Sardesai, Murji Patel and Ajay Choudhary were among those who raised supplementary questions related to the issue. Referring to actions already taken, Shinde stated that many unauthorized constructions in the adjoining Vasai-Virar region have been demolished by the local municipal corporation, while some have been spared for the time being as their owners have obtained temporary court stays. "Once the legal stays are lifted, those structures, too, will be removed," he said. The deputy CM noted that due to the ongoing monsoon and habitation by people, immediate action on some unauthorized constructions has been delayed, but assured demolition drives would resume post-rainy season. Citing a specific instance, Shinde said an unauthorized shed was found built on a BMC-owned plot in Vile Parle (East), which was demolished by the civic body on March 24, 2025. Later, a complaint was received regarding an illegal parking facility operating on the same plot. The BMC took action and cleared the encroachment on June 3, he informed the house. Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal said action against illegal constructions is being taken under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act. She urged members to share specific complaints from their constituencies so that authorities concerned can take appropriate action against unauthorised structures. "Officials responsible for failing to act will be held accountable," Misal asserted.
