Former Playboy twins expose dark reality behind mansion's glamorous facade: ‘We were teenagers'

New York Post18-05-2025

For four years, former Playboy playmates – and twins – Karissa and Kristina Shannon were thought to have been living a life of luxury and glamour inside the Playboy mansion with boyfriend Hugh Hefner. But behind closed doors, the Florida natives were fighting to survive a web of trauma-filled experiences ignited by jealousy and betrayal.
Coming from 'humble beginnings,' the twins, now 35, were first discovered when they were just 16 years old. Two years later, they moved into the mansion with Hefner and his already-established girlfriends and 'The Girls Next Door' stars Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt, and Kendra Wilkinson.
'We were only 18, it was our 19th birthday when we actually hooked up with Hef,' Kristina told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview.
'We were teenagers,' Karissa added.
'So, it was like we felt out of our comfort zone. We didn't have fake boobs, we didn't have fake teeth, we didn't have the fake hair,' Kristina continued. 'We were all-natural, and we were just trying to make it, and finding out we were going to be Playmates was the biggest deal to us. And then finding out we could be on the TV show was even bigger.'
Upon entering the mansion, the girls instantly felt 'very bullied' by the other women.
'These girls are so mean, and we didn't know what to do,' Kristina said.

The luxurious life they once fantasized about quickly became a nightmare when an STD outbreak got passed around.
'Hugh Hefner did not use condoms,' Kristina claimed. 'Once everybody caught chlamydia, we're like, 'No, we're only 18. We were 18, and we caught chlamydia.'
'We were yelling and screaming, crying. We were so mad,' Karissa added.
'And they're such a hippie mentality. . . . They're like, 'Oh, it's normal sexual activity.' They said, 'When you're sexually active, that's what happens.' We're like, no, we were 18, 19. And we're thinking in our heads, 'You guys are nuts.' Just because you're sexually active does not meet with that, you're catching STDs, then we're not okay with it.'
'From what Hef says, when we all caught chlamydia, is that when you're sexually active, that's what happens,' said Kristina. 'That's what he said. So you cannot go by what he says. You cannot trust him. So you have to watch out for yourself.'

Kristina claimed that Hefner would have sex with 'anything walking.'
'Hef, he would definitely a hundred percent have sex with anything walking, anything walking. If he found it somewhat good-looking, he would definitely hook up. . . . So, it was just like we had to deal with it.
'It was very embarrassing,' Karissa added.
Due to the lack of protection, Karissa found herself pregnant at 20 years old.
'I didn't want Hef to know, because the first thing I thought of, he was going to want to keep it,' Karissa said. 'I didn't want [anyone] else to know, because I felt like I didn't want to be pregnant by him. I didn't want to have to deal with it.'
Karissa ended up getting an abortion, a 'big and emotional' decision, she said.
'Juicy J from Three 6 Mafia was the only friend we had, and his dad was a pastor,' Karissa recalled.
'He took us to get her abortion,' Kristina added.

After the procedure, the girls had to film promos for 'Girls Next Door.'
'My stomach was so swollen,' Karissa recalled. 'I was not in any way ready to talk about it. And I was so scared that Hef would find out that he wanted it. And I didn't know what was, I didn't know what to do … I was scared. I just didn't want anyone to know. And I was embarrassed and I felt disgusting.'
'I was so confused and dealing with so much stuff, it really trauma bonded me to my sister, and that's why we went through what we went through, and I'm just so happy that I've come out of it,' she added.
By the time they were 22 years old, the girls had had enough and were ready to leave Hefner and the mansion.
'When we moved out, we had a couple of years where we went through this individuality phase,' Karissa recently told People magazine. 'I feel like every set of twins goes through it, particularly in your early 20s. We were both into different things and trying to be individuals, because Hef really did force the twin thing on us, more than anyone else had ever. But we've always been extremely close. I believe we're twin flames, closer than most twins.'
'Everyone was saying we were going through our 'Anna Nicole phase,'' Kristina told the outlet. 'We gained weight. There was alcohol and pills. We were really unhealthy and lost and, even at points, suicidal. We had no one. It was just us trying to figure it out after losing ourselves.'

The twins told Fox News Digital that Hefner had really stripped them of their identities in a lot of ways.
'It was very scary for us. It really was, because we lost who we were,' Kristina said.
Now, the women, who now live in Michigan, are focused on the future and taking care of their mental, spiritual and physical health.
'We meditate every day together, and we're into meal-prepping and not eating out, really self-care and just taking time for ourselves and learning how to be selfish, learning how to say no,' Karissa said.
'We went in our hearts, we went through our healing era, which took years. I didn't think we would ever come out of it. But Michigan changed us. We love being in Michigan and then going to L.A. or Vegas for work,' Kristina added.
As far as their next professional move, the twins are looking for a creative outlet, whether it be a talk show or a podcast.
'Something honest and real,' said Kristina. 'We won't hold back.'

Prince Harry Accused Of 'Directly Insulting' The Royal Family By Considering Changing His Last Name

Prince Harry's rift with the royal family has reportedly worsened amid reports that the Duke of Sussex considered adopting the Spencer surname. The US-based royal is said to have discussed the idea with his late mother's brother, Earl Spencer, who advised against it. However, royal experts say the move by Prince Harry has deepened tensions within the monarchy, with King Charles and Prince William reportedly "hurt and dismayed." Harry reportedly discussed with his uncle, Earl Charles Spencer, the possibility of adopting his late mother Princess Diana's surname, which would symbolically sever his ties with the Mountbatten-Windsor name currently used by his children. According to the Daily Mail, Harry brought up the idea during a recent visit to the U.K., where he had a "very amicable conversation" with his uncle, the 9th Earl Spencer. While the discussion was friendly, sources revealed that Earl Spencer advised against "taking such a step." The proposal has since sparked concern within royal circles. Royal commentator Hilary Fordwich told Fox News Digital that Harry's inquiry alone has stirred unease. "Once again, Prince Harry has managed to make yet another deeply divisive and emotionally charged move, further fracturing his already tenuous relationship with the royal family," she said. Fordwich continued: "The overwhelming advice from within his own family, particularly from his Uncle Earl Spencer, is to abandon the ludicrous idea due to its legal and emotional consequences." She added: "Even his inquiry highlights the enduring complexities of Harry's relationship with his royal roots… It further thwarts any future reconciliation." The commentator further noted that the royal family is "hurt and dismayed" by the development, causing additional "damage to the already strained family relations." British broadcaster Helena Chard echoed the sentiment, describing the potential name change as having "an air of revenge." Speaking to Fox News Digital, she called the move "hurtful and vindictive" toward King Charles, emphasizing that it reflects Harry's ongoing bitterness. "It highlights Prince Harry's little to no regard for his family," Chard said. "A huge amount of bitterness and frustration bubbling away in Harry could have led to him feeling the Spencer name would help grow his Royal court." Chard also suggested that aligning more closely with the Spencer legacy could be a strategic move for Harry. "No doubt Prince Harry feels reinventing himself keeps him relevant," she remarked. "The world still has a love affair with the late Princess Diana. Harry and Meghan could take a cash grab of Princess Diana's legacy. [However], tarnishing Princess Diana's legacy would leave a bitter taste in the public's mouths." Royal analyst Richard Fitzwilliams also commented, warning that Charles would likely view the idea as a painful rejection of his paternal legacy. "For Harry to consider doing this, he must still feel very embittered," Fitzwilliams noted. "King Charles will regard this with great sadness… What will Harry think up next?" Fordwich also noted that the proposal is "viewed as a direct insult to his father, King Charles III, as well as his extended royal family." She explained: "Ironically, Harry was close to Prince Philip, who fought for the historical significance of the Mountbatten-Windsor name for his descendants. So it is a direct insult to him." According to Fordwich, Harry may see adopting the Spencer name as a way to honor his late mother, Princess Diana, "while distancing himself from the rest of the royal institution he feels alienated from." Fordwich noted that "there is also some speculation that Harry's wife, Meghan Markle, wants their children to be more closely associated with Diana's legacy, especially their daughter, Princess Lilibet, whose full name is Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor." Even so, Fordwich warned that tensions within the royal family remain high, and this new revelation only makes things worse. "King Charles III is hesitant to speak with Harry, and Prince William is disgusted that he keeps referencing their mother," Fordwich claimed. She concluded that "trust and communication are currently at an all-time low. Any hope of rapprochement is now said to be 'in tatters,' particularly given Harry's wish to change his surname, which is viewed as a final break from his royal roots." Meanwhile, royal commentator Ian Pelham Turner told the outlet that he wasn't surprised by Harry's reported interest in adopting the Spencer surname, noting the prince's enduring emotional connection to his mother's side of the family. "Prince Harry, at the time of this alleged conversation, was at a very low ebb," Turner explained. "He found tremendous support from Earl Spencer and Diana's two sisters, who rallied around [him]… The Spencer name is always a potential path for the beleaguered couple and their children. But at this stage, it's not on the horizon." Turner added that the "royal family and Harry are still seemingly at war with each other."

Chrisley family returns to reality TV with new show but experts warn of comeback risks

Now that Todd and Julie Chrisley have received a full pardon from President Donald Trump, the couple's journey post-prison is set to be captured in a docuseries – and experts are weighing in on whether it is the right move for the reality TV stars. The Lifetime network previously greenlit "The Untitled Chrisleys Project" on the family prior to Todd and Julie's release from prison. The project, which is set to premiere later this year, showcases how Savannah Chrisley, Chase Chrisley, Grayson Chrisley, Chloe Chrisley and Nanny Faye Chrisley navigated the family hardship while Todd and Julie were behind bars for bank fraud and tax evasion. The reality couple were not initially expected to be included in the show since they were in prison. However, Savannah confirmed last week that fans can expect to see everything unfold on camera while she was waiting for her father outside the Pensacola, Florida, federal prison. Savannah also shared on her podcast Tuesday that production has "started back up now that mom and dad are home" and that they are ecstatic to be making their "new start at life." Todd And Julie Chrisley Return To Reality Tv After Trump Pardon Frees Them From Prison As Todd and Julie – who were found guilty in June 2022 of not only bank fraud and tax evasion but also conspiring to defraud the IRS, and sentenced to 12 and seven years, respectively – were deep in scandal, experts cautioned that "redemption is a grind" when it comes to the reality family regaining their popularity and the public's trust. Read On The Fox News App "Redemption is a grind, not a headline. If you want the crown back, start by crawling --because no celebrity gets to skip the hard part," Reputation Management Consultants CEO Eric Schiffer told Fox News Digital. "You can't Netflix your way out of disgrace. Substance beats spectacle. A strong comeback is built on humility, not headlines. Redemption doesn't come from a camera crew but the grind when nobody's looking." He added, "Don't try to outshine your scandal -- outwork it." Trump Announces Pardon For Todd And Julie Chrisley After Reality Tv Stars' Fraud, Tax Evasion Convictions The couple were convicted of conspiring to defraud community banks out of more than $30 million in fraudulent loans as well as tax evasion. Their sentences were later reduced. As another expert pointed out, in many ways, a celebrity's "comeback is framed by the substance of the underlying charges and conviction." "A lot of fans balked at the substantive allegations surrounding the Chrisley's convictions, while an even larger swath of American parents related to--at least, in part--Lori Loughlin's actions on behalf of her child," Doug Eldridge, founder of Achilles PR, shared with Fox News Digital. In 2019, the "Full House" star was arrested for her involvement in the college admissions scandal in 2019. One year later, Loughlin served two months in prison, completed 150 hours of community service and paid a $150,000 fine after pleading guilty to conspiracy charges stemming from making payments to William "Rick" Singer, the mastermind of the scam, to get her daughters, Isabella and Olivia Jade, into the University of Southern California. "In cases like the Chrisley's, Loughlin, or Martha Stewart, a 'relatable conviction' doesn't absolve them from wrongdoing or somehow make it right," Eldridge told Fox News Digital. Trump Pardons Todd, Julie Chrisley: What To Know About Reality Tv Stars "In each of these cases, there was a lingering sense of relatability in terms of the actions, charges, and conviction and that's incredibly important when discussing a post-conviction comeback. How they feel about you going in, will dramatically impact how they feel about you coming out." In 2004, Stewart served time at Alderson Federal Prison Camp in West Virginia after being found guilty on charges related to insider trading. "It's hard to overstate the importance of relatability and its causal connection to likability and eventually, marketability," Eldridge stated. "For a case study in relatability, look no further than Meghan Markle: this is the one aspect that has eluded the 'Duchess' over the last seven years and its absence has effectively served as the prevailing winds that drove her ship into the rocks, every time she has tried to push a new venture out of port. If they can't relate to you, they'll never like you and they certainly won't invest in you," Eldridge noted. Since Markle and Prince Harry's royal exit in 2020, the Duchess of Sussex launched her new lifestyle brand, As Ever, in April. She additionally launched a lifestyle Netflix show in March titled, "With Love, Meghan." Meanwhile, a Hollywood actor who appeared to have played his cards right is Tim Allen, according to experts. "Tim Allen didn't hide from his past; he joked about it and moved forward -- authenticity wins," Schiffer remarked. The "Home Improvement" star was arrested in 1978 at the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport in Michigan while carrying over a pound of cocaine. He later pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges and, at 23, spent two years and four months in federal prison. Although he was not expecting such a long sentence, Allen said on a podcast that he "wanted to be able to come out with something." Like What You're Reading? I learned literally how to live day by day. And I learned how to shut up. You definitely want to learn how to shut up." In a press release about the Chrisleys' docuseries, it stated that "[i]n the new series, the Chrisleys don't know best anymore, but they're doing their best to be there for each other." Todd and Julie's children, along with other family members, faced the challenges of "carrying on the Chrisley name and legacy on their own with only phone calls and brief visits with their incarcerated parents," the release, obtained by Fox News Digital last month, added. Click Here To Sign Up For The Entertainment Newsletter Despite their decision to televise their post-prison release, expert Schiffer advised that, "Redemption is earned in silence, not syndication." Meanwhile, based on past celebrity cases, Eldridge noted that a comeback for the Chrisleys will be based on "the formula" that "will always be the same: relatability determines likability, which drives marketability."Original article source: Chrisley family returns to reality TV with new show but experts warn of comeback risks

Bryana Bongolan, Cassie's Friend, Testifies Diddy Threatened Her Life And Said 'I Can Kill You'

A former graphic designer for Sean 'Diddy' Combs testified in federal court on Wednesday (June 4) that Diddy once dangled her over the edge of a 17th-floor balcony during a violent outburst. Per NBC News, Bryana 'Bana' Bongolan told jurors that the 2016 incident occurred at the Los Angeles apartment of Diddy's' former girlfriend, and her longtime friend, Cassandra 'Cassie' Ventura. According to Bongolan, Diddy verbally abused her while holding her over the railing for '10 to 15 seconds,' before throwing her onto patio furniture. 'I was scared to fall,' she recalled on the stand, adding that she had no idea what prompted the outburst. 'You know what the f**k you did,' Diddy allegedly shouted, according to her testimony. She also recalled Diddy allegedly said 'something along the lines of, 'I am the devil and I can kill you,'' and he had taken cocaine at the time of the incident. Bongolan explained that she she was 5'1″ and weighed approximately 100 to 115 pounds at the time. She claimed she attempted to brace herself and push back off him, but ended up with a bruise the size of a softball on her leg and pain in her neck and back. Jurors were reportedly shown photos of her in a neck brace. 'I have nightmares and I have a lot of paranoia,' she testified. 'I used to scream a lot in my sleep, but it's dissipated a little bit.' Even years later, Bongolan said she still experiences symptoms of trauma, including paranoia when opening doors or walking into rooms. She added that while Cassie did not witness the incident directly, she was present in the apartment and emerged from her bedroom in disbelief after hearing the commotion. 'Cassie was in her bedroom but she came out. I heard her voice — her tone was in disbelief,' Bongolan claimed. Following the bizarre alleged incident, the witness said she received a FaceTime call from either Diddy or someone on his team and expressed that she 'did not want any trouble.' She testified that the music mogul remained mostly silent while looking at the camera with his hand on his head. Diddy's defense attempted to discredit Bongolan, alleging she was a heavy drug user and may have been under the influence at the time of the incident — an accusation she denies. However, she did state earlier in her testimony that she and Cassie were both 'regular' drug users while in Diddy's 'social world.' 'We had a problem,' she said. Bongolan's testimony comes after notable figures' including Kid Cudi, Cassie, Capricorn Clark and others. Diddy is facing serious federal charges including: Racketeering Conspiracy; Sex Trafficking by Force, Fraud, or Coercion, and Transportation to Engage in Prostitution. The 55-year-old has denied all criminal allegations. However, FOX News Digital reports that Diddy's legal team acknowledged he committed domestic violence — in an attempt to negotiate lesser state charges and avoid federal prison time. The father-of-seven was arrested in October 2024 at the Park Hyatt in Manhattan and remains in custody. If convicted, he faces a potential sentence of 15 years to life in prison.
