Final 'V.C. Andrews' book set for publication in October

UPI20-07-2025
July 20 (UPI) -- Birdlane Island, the final book in the decades-long "V.C. Andrews" gothic novel franchise, is set for publication in October.
"The SECRET is out: Birdlane Island is the last new novel in the V.C. Andrews book franchise to be published," the official V.C. Andrews X feed said Saturday.
"If you have a copy of Flowers in the Attic and you get a copy of this, you will have the first and last novel published in the V.C. Andrews franchise. Preorder."
Andrew Neiderman, 85, took over the franchise and assumed the pen name when the real Andrews died of cancer in 1986 at age 63.
Many of the books in the Flowers in the Attic, Heaven and Dawn series -- have been adapted as Lifetime movies.
"Off the coast of Maine, on an island off the bay, lives a novelist Jason Lorraine and his teenage daughter Lisa. They live a simple life, largely cut off from the mainland, and Lisa's weak health poses a frequent concern," a synopsis of the final Andrews book said.
"After the sudden and untimely death of Lisa's mother, Jason becomes even more reclusive and protective. Lisa is forbidden to see Jamie, the charming fisherman's son who has quickly become her closest confidante in her grief. The star-crossed lovers steal time with one another, but fate intervenes, and they may never find a happy ending."

Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Maroon 5 performed on Today Friday, ahead of their eighth studio album's release Aug. 15. Frontman Adam Levine and lead guitarist James Valentine also discussed the album, titled Love is Like, on the show. "You said, Adam, recently that this album, Love is Like -- this one that's about to come out -- is deeply personal and you're going back to your roots. How so?" co-host Craig Melvin asked Levine. "We came up in a time when like you didn't really have any outside help with writing songs," Levine said. After a long time of collaborative work, this album represented an opportunity "just to come back to, 'Hey, you know, lemme see if we can do this again, and do this just with us and let's see if it still works.'" The album will feature the previously released tracks "All Night," "California" and "Priceless" with Blackpink's Lisa. Other songs include "Hideaway," "Love is Like" with Lil Wayne, "Yes I Did," "I Like It" with Sexyy Red, "Burn Burn Burn," "Jealousy Problems" and "My Love." File Photo by Jim Ruymen/UPI | License Photo Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Universal Pictures announced Friday it will rerelease Casper in October. The 1995 film returns to theaters Oct. 3 and plays through Halloween. The live-action movie stars Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci as a father and daughter who move into a haunted house. They discover the ghost Casper (voice of Malachi Pearson) is not an evil spirit at all. Devon Sawa appears as Casper's corporeal form. Ricci was 13 when the movie filmed in 1993, and Sawa was 15. Brad Silberling directed. Cathy Moriarty, Eric Idle, Ben Stein and Brad Garrett also star, with cameos from Dan Aykroyd as his Ghostbusters character, Mel Gibson, Clint Eastwood and Rodney Dangerfield. Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment produced the film, employing Industrial Light and Magic to bring the ghost effects to life. A new trailer features James Horner's score. Casper originally opened Memorial Day weekend in May 1995. Casper is based on the Harvey comics, which also inspired an animated series. Universal is also rereleasing Jaws at the end of August.

The series will conclude with Season 3. File Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo Aug. 1 (UPI) -- HBO Max announced Friday that the And Just Like That... Season 3 finale will in fact be the show's series finale. The show's official Instagram shared a statement from series creator Michael Patrick King, while star Sarah Jessica Parker confirmed the news on her own account. King said both he and Parker agreed to end And Just Like That..., a sequel series to Sex and the City and its sequel films. The pair chose not to announce Season 3 was the final season in advance. Season 3 has two more episodes, set for release Aug. 7 and 14. "While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That... Season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop," King wrote. "We didn't want the word 'final' to overshadow the fun of watching the season." Parker also posted about her 27-year journey as Carrie Bradshaw, the character she has portrayed in the franchise since the premiere of Sex and the City on HBO in 1998. "I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her," she wrote. "I hope you love these final two episodes as much as we do." And Just Like That... premiered in 2021, 11 years after the second Sex and the City movie. In Season 1, Carrie found herself a widow after Mr. Big (Chris Noth) died of a heart attack. Carrie, Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) were joined by new friends Seema (Sarita Choudhury) and Lisa (Nicole Ari Parker) in the sequel. Original cast member Kim Cattrall briefly returned as Samantha Jones, who now lives in France and appeared in one Season 2 episode in a phone call with Carrie.
