1995 'Casper' movie returning to theaters in October
Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Universal Pictures announced Friday it will rerelease Casper in October. The 1995 film returns to theaters Oct. 3 and plays through Halloween.
The live-action movie stars Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci as a father and daughter who move into a haunted house. They discover the ghost Casper (voice of Malachi Pearson) is not an evil spirit at all.
Devon Sawa appears as Casper's corporeal form. Ricci was 13 when the movie filmed in 1993, and Sawa was 15.
Brad Silberling directed. Cathy Moriarty, Eric Idle, Ben Stein and Brad Garrett also star, with cameos from Dan Aykroyd as his Ghostbusters character, Mel Gibson, Clint Eastwood and Rodney Dangerfield.
Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment produced the film, employing Industrial Light and Magic to bring the ghost effects to life. A new trailer features James Horner's score.
Casper originally opened Memorial Day weekend in May 1995. Casper is based on the Harvey comics, which also inspired an animated series.
Universal is also rereleasing Jaws at the end of August.

On Wednesday, Tate McRae posted an upward photo to her Instagram of her lying down on Hollywood Blvd with her legs extended over a cracked and crushed Hollywood Walk of Fame star. The 22-year-old stunned in a sheer, sparkly blue dress paired with clear heels and her hair worn down. In the caption, the Canadian pop star quoted beloved writer Anaïs Nin, who was popular in the 1960s and 1970s. "I'm restless. Things are calling me away. My hair is being pulled by the stars again - Anaïs nin," McRae wrote. The quote is from Nin's diary, Fire: From a Journal of Love, which was written from 1934-1937, but wasn't published until 1995. While the Canadian singer's caption quoted a well-known line from Nin, many fans suspected the post could be a teaser for a deluxe version of her most recent project, So Close To What, pointing to the dramatic visuals and tone. The "Sports car" singer released her third album, So Close To What, in February and is currently on her Miss Possessive Tour. Last month, she wrapped up the European leg and is set to continue touring across North America, starting at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada, on August 4. Nin was a French-Cuban-American writer best known for her deeply personal diaries, which spanned decades and offered an intimate look into her thoughts on art, relationships and sexuality. Born in 1903 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, she became a pioneering figure in feminist literature, admired for her lyrical prose and exploration of the female psyche. Nin also published experimental fiction, including House of Incest and Delta of Venus. Decades later, her work continues to influence the next generation of writers and artists around the world. The writer died of cancer in Los Angeles on January 14, 1977. She was 73 years old. Even if fans missed the reference, McRae's nod to Nin shows she's inspired by more than just current trends. Molly Shannon joins Will Ferrell in Netflix golf comedy

File Photo by Jim Ruymen/UPI | License Photo Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Netflix announced Tuesday that Molly Shannon has been cast alongside Will Ferrell in an untitled golf comedy series. The Ferrell series was announced last year under the title Golf. Ferrell will play a fictional golf legend. The announcement did not describe Shannon's character but her name is Stacy. Shannon and Ferrell were in the same Saturday Night Live cast beginning in 2005. They costarred in films A Night at the Roxbury, Superstar, Talladega Nights and Casa de Mi Padre. Shannon also appeared in the documentary Will & Harper, meeting former SNL writer Harper Steele after her transition. Steele is an executive producer on the series along with Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, Alix Taylor, Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, Nene Rodrigue, Chris Henchy, David Gordon Green and Andrew Guest. Netflix has announced 10 episodes.

Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Madame Tussauds New York is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Broadway hit Hamilton with a wax figure of the musical's creator and original star, Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda's wax figure was unveiled Tuesday at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City. The statue is seen in Miranda's Alexander Hamilton costume. "Honestly, this is very strange," the actor and composer said Tuesday, according to Playbill. "It's a full day of head scans and eye scans, there's a lady who has a box full of eyeballs... She's flipping through the eyeballs looking for the one that most closely resembles your eyeball," he said, describing the process. "And I did all of this about a year ago. You pose for it a year in advance, and I've been waiting to see which one she picked. It's very Coraline." Jimmy Fallon hosted the ceremony. Miranda, 45, is also known for the Broadway musical In the Heights. He and other original Hamilton cast members reunited for a performance at the Tony Awards in June. Leslie Odom, Jr., will reprise his role of Aaron Burr in the musical for a limited time on Broadway beginning in September.
