JD(U) cadres told to engage voters through booth agents

Time of India16-07-2025
Patna: Rajya Sabha member and JD(U) working president Sanjay Kumar Jha on Wednesday called upon party workers to actively engage in nominating second booth level agents (BLAs) and to reach every household during the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, being carried out under the supervision of the Election Commission (EC).
While the EC has requested political parties to nominate their second BLAs, the JD(U) has taken proactive steps. "It is a golden opportunity for our party workers to reach every voter at the booth level through our BLAs. We should make our presence felt among voters of every booth," Jha said during a review meeting focused on the party's BLA-2 nominations. District-level functionaries joined the meeting via video conferencing.
"This is the peak of the kharif cropping season. Hence, we must pay special attention to connecting with voters involved in farming. Even those who have migrated to other states must be contacted by July 20," Jha added, referring to the SIR exercise which concludes on July 25.
State JD(U) president Umesh Singh Kushwaha, former Rajya Sabha MP Anil Hegde and MLCs Sanjay Gandhi and Ravindra Prasad Singh also participated in the meeting.

This residence permit allows non-EU citizens to legally live and work in Germany, provided they belong to certain professional groups. For many, it has always been a place for short trips, Schengen stamps, and winter holidays. AFP/File Photo It is aimed at people in liberal professions, such as journalists, researchers, artists, and those in regulated fields like engineering, law, and medicine, who are looking to live and work in one of Europe's strongest economies. Who is eligible? As per the German Missions in India, Section 18 of the German Income Tax Act recognises the following professions as freelance employment: Independent researchers and scientists Artists, musicians, and teachers Lawyers, notaries, and tax advisers Patent lawyers Engineers and architects Journalists and photojournalists Interpreters and translators Physiotherapists and medical workers Economists and business consultants Dentists and veterinarians Commercial chemists Accountants Pilots Some professions may have additional rules or conditions. Below is the complete list: A valid passport with at least two blank pages, issued within the past 10 years Proof of freelance work and educational qualifications, such as a university degree or other recognised higher education certificate Evidence of financial stability for one year, showing a minimum monthly income of approximately 1,280.06 euros (around Rs 1.27 lakh) A clear and detailed outline of your freelance plans, along with your curriculum vitae (CV) Proof of contacts or commitments from potential clients in Germany or Europe Valid health insurance coverage For applicants over 45, documents related to pension plans, savings, or retirement benefits Confirmation of accommodation or address in Germany Payment receipt for the visa fee (75 euros or around Rs 7,500) The visa lets individuals work independently in the country without needing a full-time employer. AFP/File Photo How can Indians apply for the visa? For Indian applicants, the process generally starts with applying for a National D Visa before entering Germany. Here is a step-by-step guide: Step 1: Fill out and print the National D Visa application form. Step 2: Book an appointment at the nearest German embassy or consulate, such as the German Missions in India. Step 3: Gather all required documents mentioned above. Make sure they meet the embassy's format and language guidelines. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Step 4: Visit the embassy or consulate in person to submit your application. Your biometric data will also be collected during this visit. Step 5: If approved, the National D Visa will be issued for a period of three to six months. Step 6: After reaching Germany, register your local address and apply for a long-term freelance residence permit at the nearest Foreigners' Office within two weeks. Types of Freelancer Visas in Germany Your eligibility for a freelancer visa in Germany depends on the kind of work you do. There are two main categories: Freelancer (Freiberufler) This category includes professionals who offer their services independently, often within the liberal professions. Examples include teachers, journalists, translators, therapists, engineers, IT experts, architects, lawyers, and doctors. Self-employed (Selbständiger/Gewerbetreibender) If your work does not fall under the liberal professions, you may be considered self-employed. This typically applies to those who run a business or hold a trade licence. Can you work for a German company on this visa? No, this visa is meant for independent work only. If you plan to take up part-time or full-time employment with a German company, you will need to apply for a separate work visa that allows for employer-based jobs.

As govt presses ahead with life after Dhankhar, meet the returning officer for VP election

In the aftermath of Jagdeep Dhankhar's sudden resignation, the Election Commission (EC) has set the ball rolling for the Vice Presidential elections. On Friday, it announced the appointment of Rajya Sabha Secretary General P C Mody as the Returning Officer for the elections. Garima Jain and Vijay Kumar, the Joint Secretary and Director of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, were named Assistant Returning Officers. Mody's appointment as Rajya Sabha Secretary General in November 2021 had been controversial, with the Opposition demanding to know why he had been brought in place of his predecessor, P P K Ramacharyulu, who was barely two months into the job. The change had, besides, coincided with that year's Monsoon Session. Ramacharyulu was the first Rajya Sabha Secretariat official to have risen to that post, a point that was flagged when he was named. But his replacement and shunting out as 'advisor' was unceremonious. 'It is surprising and shocking. When the Session had been called already, why has this sudden decision been taken? What is the purpose and intention behind this, we have to find out,' Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge told The Indian Express then. He also pointed out that the usual practice was to appoint law experts as Secretary General. Mody is a 1982-batch Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax cadre) officer, who retired as chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes in May 2021, after nearly two years in the job. 'Whether they have consulted the Vice President of India who is also the Chairman of the House, we do not know. That also we will have to find out. Why have they appointed a new Secretary General in such a great hurry? Why have they replaced Ramacharyulu who was appointed just two months ago when the Session had been called under his signature?' Kharge said. Congress Chief Whip in Rajya Sabha Jairam Ramesh responded on Twitter: 'Not surprised at all. Dr P P Ramacharyulu is a thorough professional, non-partisan and perfectly qualified for the post — three deadly sins in the Modi regime.' The Trinamool Congress and the RJD, too, expressed surprise. 'It is not known why a person who was appointed hardly 73 days ago has been replaced all of a sudden by an IRS officer,' TMC chief whip Sukhendu Shekhar Roy told The Indian Express. 'He could not attend a single session because his appointment was done after the last session was over. And on the eve of a new session you bring in somebody new; that raises questions,' said RJD's leader in Rajya Sabha Manoj Jha. Earlier, Mody was caught in a row when Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Mumbai) lodged a complaint with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman against Mody, accusing him of a 'shocking' directive to bury a 'sensitive case'. The complaint, reported by The Indian Express, also alleged that the CBDT Chairman had informed the Chief Commissioner that he had 'secured' his position because of a 'successful search' action against an Opposition leader. When contacted then, Mody was unavailable for comment. Two months after the complaint, he was given a one-year extension by the Government and was subsequently given two more extensions as head of the premier tax body. Under Article 66(1) of the Constitution, the Vice-President is elected by an electoral college comprising members of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, using the system of proportional representation by means of a single transferable vote, with voting conducted by secret ballot. A Returning Officer is responsible for the overall conduct of the elections, including giving public notice of the intended election, collecting and accepting nomination papers, collecting the nomination sum, scrutinising the forms, accepting withdrawals if any, and supervising counting.

Who is plotting to grab property of Karisma's Kapoor's ex-husband Sunjay Kapur? Mother Rani Kapur's explosive letter shocks everyone, she demands...

(File) In a new twist in the row over the control of Sona Comstar following the demise of its Chairman Sunjay Kapur, the ex-husband of popular actor Karisma Kapoor, his mother, Rani Kapur, has written a letter to the company's board of directors, demanding the postponement of its Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for July 25. What Rani Kapur wrote in her letter? In her letter, Rani Kapur, the wife of Sona Comstar founder Surinder Kapur, said she strongly opposes the holding of AGM amid the 'sudden and suspicious' death of her son Sunjay Kapur. Rani claimed that her son died under 'suspicious' circumstances, and regretted that the company was planning to hold the meeting while the family was still in deep mourning. Rani Kapur also alleged that she was 'forced' to sign several unknown documents in her state of grief, and the details of those have not been shared with her yet. 'I was completely helpless mentally and emotionally after the death of my son, but I was forced to sign documents behind closed doors. I repeatedly asked for copies of those documents, but till date I have not been given anything.' She further alleged that she has been denied access to her bank accounts, and forced to 'depend on a select few people for my livelihood'. The grieving mother also claimed that following Sunjay Kapur's death, 'some people' were attempting to wrest control of the Kapur family's legacy in their hour of mourning, She revealed that several proposals are being voted on in the AGM, including the proposal to appoint a representative of the Kapur family, but she has not been informed about these proposals. Who's the heir to Sona Comstar after Sunjay's death? In her letter, Rani Kapur stressed that after her son's demise, she was now the sole heir of her husband and Sona Comstar founder, Surinder Kapur, and the majority shareholder in the Sona Group, the parent company of the auto parts manufacturer, adding that she has not allowed anyone to represent her in the company on her behalf. 'If the board and shareholders ignore this letter, which I am writing not only as a grieving mother but also as the head of the Kapur family and the largest shareholder of the company, it will be a clear example of mismanagement and betrayal by the company,' she stated. Meanwhile, Sona Comstar has reportedly begun the AGM and Priya Sachdev, Sunjay Kapur's second wife, is expected to attend. How did Sunjay Kapur die? Sunjay Kapur, the ex-husband of famous Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, died of a heart attack while playing a polo match in the United Kingdom on June 12. At first, it was believed that the 53-year-old had died due to a sudden heart attack, but later reports emerged that he had reportedly swallowed a bee by accident, and its sting caused an allergic reaction, triggering a cardiac arrest that led to his demise. Kapur has left behind a vast business empire valued at staggering $4.7 billion (about Rs 31,000 crore) business empire. However, neither Karisma Kapoor, nor any of any of Kapur's ex-wives, sisters, or children inherited the fortune.
