BBC News19-07-2025
This week, another new Marvel movie arrives in the form of Fantastic Four: First Steps. But that's not all the next seven days have in store.Pokémon Presents appears to place Pikachu in the DJ booth, while Ray of Light-era Madonna gets the remix treatment, and Happy Gilmore returns to the greens after almost 30 years.Read on for what's coming up this week...
'It's clobberin' time!'
The 37th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - the first of phase six - lands in UK cinemas from Thursday, so we hope you've been keeping up.The Fantastic Four: First Steps stars Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as The Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing - complete with his catchphrase: "It's clobberin' time!"Set in the 1960s, the films sees the heroes forced to defend Earth from a hungry space god named Galactus, played by Ralph Ineson, and the Silver Surfer, played by Julia Garner. But don't worry if you haven't seen all or any of the previous 36 MCU films, as director Matt Shakman says his latest attempt to bring comic book heroes to the big screen exists in its "own universe". "There's really no [other] superheroes," he told Empire. "There's no Easter eggs. There's no running into Iron Man or whatever. They're it, in this universe. I love the interconnected Marvel Universe, but we get to do something so new and so different. Eventually, this world will meet up with other worlds - but for now this is our own little corner."John Malkovich was due to appear in the film as Red Ghost, however Shakman told Variety it was "heart-breaking" to ultimately have to leave his scenes on the cutting room floor.
Gilmore happy to be back
Adam Sandler's much-loved goofball golfer Happy Gilmore is back on the greens for the first time in nearly three decades, so watch your heads. The original 1996 movie saw the aspiring hockey player switch sports to comedic effect, and now Sandler, 58, will reprise his role on Netflix from Friday.Happy Gilmore 2 will see the main character dusting off his clubs in order to raise money to put his daughter Vienna, played by the actor's real life daughter Sunny Sandler, through ballet school.Other stars of the original including Julie Bowen, Dennis Dugan, Christopher McDonald and Ben Stiller all return.New faces also join such as Lavell Crawford - who plays the son of Gilmore's late, great caddy Chubbs Peterson (Carl Weathers) - and Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, aka Bad Bunny, as well as Kym Whitley.
Gotta mix 'em all

Here's a question for you. What do you get when you cross Pikachu with a set of DJ decks? We have no idea either but we're set to find out on Tuesday during the Pokémon Company's latest announcement round-up for the months ahead.Known as Pokémon Presents, these livestreams reveal everything coming up for the fictional creatures: from their trading card game to collaborations with big fashion houses. This time, it's been teased with a picture of its main mascot Pikachu with DJ equipment, leading some to speculate there could be a new rhythm game on the way. More certain is that we'll hear more about the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A game, as well as updates on Pokémon's growing number of mobile games. If that wasn't enough Pokémon, we may also see more from the next series of Netflix spin-off show Pokémon Concierge launching in September too.
Madonna in the mix
Perhaps like DJ Pikachu, the Queen of Pop, Madonna, is set to drop her long rumoured and superbly named Veronica Electronica project on Friday. The album features rare and unreleased remixes from her dancefloor-filling, Grammy-winning electronic 1998 album Ray of Light, which, at the time, put her back at the very top of the pop game once again in her 40th year. It's being released digitally and on vinyl - for all you crate diggers - as part of her Silver Collection of ongoing career-spanning special releases.Last month, the US singer, now 66, released Peter & Victor's Collaboration Remix Edit of her song Skin as the first offering, followed by a previously-unreleased original demo from the classic album sessions entitled Gone Gone Gone.

Jermain Defoe, 42, 'dating stunning recruiter 11 years his junior' - five months after split from Alisha LeMay

Former England ace Jermain Defoe is reportedly off the market - five months after his split from Alisha LeMay. The ex-Premier League star, 42, is said to be 'dating' recruiter Farran Tomlin - 11 years his junior, according to The Sun. The couple were reportedly seen last week relaxing in the British Airways First Class lounge at London Heathrow, ahead of their romantic escape to Bodrum, Turkey. A source told the publication: 'The pair were very loved-up and enjoying the perks of the lounge before their flight.' Turkish singer Dilek Sert Erdogan posted a snap of the couple at Hotel Bodrum, with the captioned: 'The amazing Jermain Defoe and his lovely wife Farran came to see our show. 'Even after I got off stage, they were still there… Turkish singer Dilek Sert Erdogan posted a snap of the couple at Hotel Bodrum 'Later, Farran messaged me saying: 'Jermain said: 'We have to stay afterwards - and let her know what an amazing voice she has.' How sweet is that?' 'We had a lovely little chat - they're such warm, genuine people. One by one they sparkle but together they shine!' MailOnline has contacted Jermaine's representative for comment. It comes just months after his split with Alisha, a year after their relationship was rocked by a cheating scandal. The footballer and influencer were first romantically linked in 2023, just weeks after he split from his wife-of-seven-months Donna Tierney. The couple made their red carpet debut in October 2023 and then sparked engagement rumours, after Alisha was spotted wearing a giant diamond on her ring finger. However, just days later Jermain was spotted with wedding planner Paige Mallabourn-Edmondson. It was reported in February 2024 that Alisha had given Jermain another chance and the pair headed on a 'make or break' holiday. But it seems that the last ditch attempt was unsuccessful, as a source told MailOnline that the pair have broken up. Jermain and Alisha made their last public appearance together in September, as they attended a 60th anniversary dinner for Chelsea restaurant Daphne's. The couple reportedly jetted to the Dominican Republic for a make-or-break holiday early last year after their relationship was rocked by a cheating scandal. At the time, sources claimed that despite vowing to give things another try, relations were still 'tense' after he was spotted kissing another woman. The footballer was reportedly aware he had 'a lot of work to do' to win back the influencer's trust. Pictures obtained by The Sun at the time showed Jermain and Alisha preparing to jet off on their Caribbean getaway, in a bid to reignite their romance. A source told the publication: 'To say things have been tense lately would be an understatement. 'Jermain knows he has a lot of work to do to make it up to Alisha but he has insisted he is committed to saving their relationship and has said he will do whatever it takes. 'He has been on the straight and narrow for the last few months since things went awry and hopes this trip will bring them closer together and prove his love for her.' After Jermain was seen out with Paige several times, Alisha took to Instagram at the time to post a message to her fans hinting at 'everything happens for a reason' and 'finding better', which was later deleted. The post read: 'Someday you'll realise that everything you've gone through was a blessing in disguise. 'Things didn't work out the way you expected them to because you were being prepared for something better, and all the restless nights wondering why everything happened to you will finally make sense.'

River, from Norfolk, said Pride for him meant "self-expression".The 25-year-old, who does drag, said: "Norwich is definitely more queer-populated especially than where I live."It is unfortunate when you leave Pride, you still see hate crime and cat-calling and things like that."I feel as a whole we all kind of stick up for each other."Blaz, also from Norfolk, added: "The community really sticks up for each other."Everyone makes their own little safe circle."There were about 120 stalls in six different locations, including at The Forum, Theatre Street and Chapelfield Gardens. Tracey Slater works for the SOS Bus Norwich, which provides a safe haven for people in distress on a night said the charity wanted people to feel safe when they visited its hub on Prince of Wales Road."For us coming to this event, it is to show people we are supporters of this community, and we are not going to judge," she said."Hopefully, they will then feel safe enough to come to us."The march left City Hall at about 13:00 BST before finishing at Chapelfield events were cut short due to heavy rain, including live music outside the Forum, a volunteer for the event said. Holly Willoughby turned heads as she posted a rare bikini snap on Saturday along with a message for Oasis fans ahead of the bands second gig at Wembley. In the black-and-white photo, the mum-of-three, 44, sizzled in a strapless bikini that highlighted her toned figure. Oasis made a long-awaited return to London on Friday, playing their first gig in the city in over 16 years. Following a series of homecoming shows at Manchester's Heaton Park, the rock legends, fronted by brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, took to the stage at Wembley Stadium. With five nights scheduled, the band shared door and stage times on their Instagram, providing fans with an hour-by-hour breakdown. Gates open at 5pm, followed by support acts Cast at 6pm and singer Richard Ashcroft at 7pm. Oasis then headline with a two-hour set starting at 8:15pm. The band kicked off their Oasis Live '25 world tour on July 4 at Cardiff's Principality Stadium, earning five-star reviews from The Guardian, The Telegraph, and The Times. The group has also dominated the UK album charts, with three top five albums, according to the Official Charts Company. While fans were excited at the reunion, some were outraged after some standard tickets in the UK and Ireland jumped from £148 to £355. The controversy prompted the Government and the UK's competition watchdog to pledge to look at the use of dynamic pricing. After their final London gig on August 3, the group will move north to Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium before performing at Dublin's Croke Park. The band will then head to Japan, South Korea, South America, Australia and North America. The band will then head to Japan, South Korea, South America, Australia and North America. Formed in Manchester in 1991, the band was led by lead guitarist Noel and lead vocalist Liam during their 18 years together. Oasis signed to independent record label Creation Records in 1993, rising to fame with the release of their debut chart-topping album Definitely Maybe on August 29 1994. They had hits with songs including Don't Look Back In Anger, Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall and Live Forever. Dig Out Your Soul, the band's last studio album, was released in 2008, just months before the Paris row.
