Egypt's "Blackout" to Compete at 37th Palm Springs International ShortFest

Egyptian short film "Blackout" will compete at the 2025 Palm Springs International ShortFest, one of the world's premiere festivals dedicated to short form film.
The 37th edition of the festival, running June 24-30 in the famed Sonoran Desert town in California, will showcase 311 films hailing from 64 countries and territories.
"Blackout" will screen in the Welcome to the Neighbourhood section, alongside over 300 shorts from more than 100 countries.
Directed and written by Ahmed Moustafa ElZogbhy, "Blackout" follows a family during the early hours of Eid, as a health emergency spirals into psychological tension inside a Cairo apartment building. With the male family members gone in search of a doctor, the women and children are left behind, until a mysterious tenant and her companion arrive, triggering a confrontation with their fears and expectations.
The film stars Sedky Sakhr, Gihan El Shamashergy, Yara Goubran, and Malek Emad. Co-producers include Mohamed Hefzy, Safei ElDin Mahmoud, Aly El Araby, and more.
It is produced by Hind Metwalli, Mohamed Hefzy, Safei Eldin Mahmoud, Baho Bakhsh, Ali Elarabi, Ahmed Amer, Sherif Fathy, Ibrahim El-Nagari, and Mustafa El-Kashef.
"Blackout" previously competed at the 55th Tampere Film Festival in Finland to critical acclaim.

The Palm Springs International ShortFest, held annually in California, is an Oscar, BAFTA, and Goya-qualifying event, spotlighting standout global shorts.
It is an Oscar-qualifying festival in five categories: Best of the Festival Award, Best Animated Short, Best Documentary Short, Best Live-Action Short Over 15 Minutes and Best Live-Action Short 15 Minutes and Under.

Yara Sameh Miley Cyrus is opening up about her music career after she left Disney following her run on the 2006 hit sitcom "Hannah Montana." In a new interview, Cyrus explained why she had not performed the songs she popularized on the Disney Channel series, such as 'Best of Both Worlds.' 'After I left Disney, I wasn't allowed to perform any of the Hannah Montana music,' she said on Spotify's The Ringer podcast. 'It's not like I wanted to, I mean performing 'The Best Of Both Worlds' between 'We Can't Stop' and 'Wrecking Ball,' wouldn't have really made sense," Cyrus continued. 'It was still sad knowing those songs have my voice, my face, and I wasn't allowed to sing them.' However, when the superstar was honored as a Disney Legend in 2024, things changed and she was permitted to perform those songs again. 'After being inducted as a Disney Legend, I was given permission to perform those songs in the future, which is pretty cool,' she added. Following her run as the star of Hannah Montana, Cyrus looked to reinvent her image and caused uproar in a series of performances and public appearances. In 2013, she performed at the MTV Video Music Awards, where she twerked on Robin Thicke during the performance of 'Blurred Lines.' During her acceptance speech of the Disney Legend honor, she apologized to Mickey Mouse for her 'malfunction' era, saying, 'I definitely wasn't created in a lab and if I was there must've been a bug in the system which caused me to malfunction somewhere between the years of 2013 and '16. "The Seven Dogs" Cast Includes Monica Bellucci, Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Max Huang, More
Yara Sameh Egyptian stars Karim Abdel Aziz and Ahmed Ezz's highly-anticipated film "The Seven Dogs" has unveiled a first teaser as well as more details on its high-profile international cast. Bad Boys For Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are helming the film from a script by Mohamed El-Dabbah. The pic is based on a story by the head of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority Turki Al-Sheikh and the Big Time team. The cast also includes Menna Shalaby, Tara Emad, Hannah El Zahed, Menna Shalaby, Sayed Ragab, Hala Sedki, Sandy Bella, Saudi Arabian actor Nasser Al Qasabi, and more. The high-profile cast members includes Italian actress Monica Bellucci, Bollywood stars Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt as well as German-Chinese martial-arts talent Max Huang. The film is sponsored by the Saudi General Entertainment Authority and was shot entirely in Riyadh, the film is now in post-production for a release later this year. It will be the first film to be shot in Big Time Al-Husn Studios, one of MENA region's biggest film and television production facilities, with additional shooting at Riyadh Boulevard. Riyadh will serve as a stand-in for multiple international cities, including Mumbai and Shanghai. The film is considered to be the largest Arab film production to date with a budget exceeding $40 million. The $40M project is being hailed as a gamechanger for Saudi Arabia as it continues its drive to become the Middle East and North Africa's biggest film and TV hub. It is produced by Jeddah-based entertainment company Sela, with Ivan Atkinson lead producing. Production Services by Black Bear. Ivan Atkinson, whose credits include The Covenant and The Gentlemen, serves as the producer of the film. Cinematography is by Robrecht Heyvaert, production design by Paul Kirby, costume design by Beatrice Giannini and Mark Bouman and hair & make-up by Jacqueline Russon. Duncan Capp serves as the SFX Supervisor. The stunts are crafted by the 87Eleven team, led by the stunt coordinator Stephen Dunlevy, whose credits include Mad Max: Fury Road and John Wick. "The Seven Dogs" marks the fourth collaboration between Abdel Aziz and Ahmed Ezz after blockbuster films "Welad Rizk 3: El Qadya" and "Kira & El Gin" and season 2 of the critically acclaimed TV series 'El Ekhteyar ll'. In the film, Ezz plays Interpol officer Khalid Al-Azzazi, who apprehends Ghali Abu Dawood (Aziz), a high-ranking member of the clandestine global crime syndicate known as 7 Dogs. A year later, the organization resurfaces, trafficking a dangerous new drug—Pink Lady—across the Middle East. With time running out, Khalid reluctantly join forces with Ghali, the only person with intimate knowledge of the syndicate's operations. Their uneasy alliance propels them on a high-stakes mission across multiple global cities as they strive to dismantle the organization and prevent the drug from flooding Arab streets. Sherine to Conclude 20th Mawazine Festival
Yara Sameh Egyptian superstar, Sherine Abdel-Wahab will conclude this year's Mawazine Festival. Mawazine is a Moroccan international music festival that began in 2001 and is hosting its 20th edition this year. As one of the largest music festivals in the world, Mawazine attracts more than 2.5 million attendees each year. This year's Mawazine festival is scheduled to be held from June 20 to 28 in Rabat, Morocco. Sherine is set to perform at the festival's stage, Nahda, on June 28. She is set to present several of her popular and latest songs. Born on October 8, 1980, Sherine Sayed Mohamed Abdel Wahab, known professionally as simply Sherine, is a singer, actress and music judge. She was first discovered as a child by her school music teacher, who convinced her mother to take her to the Cairo Opera House to meet veteran musician Selim Sahab. Abdel-Wahab served as a choral member at the Cairo Opera House from the age of nine to twelve and was then given a chance to become a solo singer. She kept performing at the Cairo Opera House while searching for a music producer to launch her music career. At the age of 18, Abdel-Wahab was introduced to director and music producer Nasr Mahrous, who liked her voice and decided to collaborate with her via his 'Free Music' production company, where she met with superstar, Tamer Hosny, who was also a new talent-seeking opportunity. Her first recorded song was released in 2002 as a part of an album that included works of other artists. The album was released, under the title 'Free Mix3: Tamer and Sherine' and was a big hit all across the entire Middle East and North Africa.
