Former Tennessee baseball transfer commit to play in Knoxville
Ryan Galanie committed to Tennessee baseball on July 2, 2023. He never played for the Vols after transferring from Wofford. The 2023 Southern Conference Player of the Year was selected by the White Sox in the 13th round of the 2023 MLB draft (No. 389 overall).
"To the Tennessee fans that supported me, I appreciate all the love," Galanie said. "There wasn't a fan base in college baseball that could've supported me more with pure class. I know I never got to suit up for the Vols, but I can't say thank you enough."
Galanie was assigned to Chicago's Double-A affiliate Birmingham on April 29 from High-A Winston-Salem.
The former Tennessee transfer commit will play in Knoxville, Tuesday-Sunday, against the Smokies at Covenant Health Park.

Magic rookie Jase Richardson hit the gym with Desmond Bane, others
Orlando Magic guard Jase Richardson was spotted in the gym in photos posted by the team on social media in preparation for his upcoming rookie campaign. Richardson was seen working out alongside Desmond Bane, Jonathan Isaac and Tyus Jones at the AdventHealth Training Center. Several players have been in and out of the practice facility throughout the summer, with Richardson among the latest to get in some work. The offseason period is a great chance for incoming rookies to hit the court with their new teammates to build chemistry. After playing with a few roster players in summer league, Richardson had the opportunity to get on the court with some of the veterans. Richardson was named to the All-Big Ten third team last season at Michigan State, averaging 12.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists on 41.2% shooting from 3-point range as a freshman. He ranked ninth in the country in box plus-minus (plus-11.6) and 14th in offensive rating (132). The 19-year-old debuted with the Magic in the NBA Summer League, averaging 16.5 points, 2.5 assists, 1.5 rebounds and one block on 55.6% shooting from the field in two appearances. He produced 19 points and four assists in his last game on July 13. Richardson projects to check a lot of boxes for the Magic and was a player they were even looking at with the 16th pick before trading it away. He faces an uphill battle vying for rotational minutes, but he appeared to pass the test in his first action this summer.

Northallerton RUFC enjoy busy summer with tournaments and cricket
With pre-season training already underway for both the senior men's and women's teams at Northallerton Rugby Union Football Club , it's a good moment to look back on what club members have been up to over the summer break. A highlight was the annual NRUFC touch rugby tournament, which now spans six weeks and includes 15 teams from across North Yorkshire. The tournament, which is a staple in the local sporting calendar, saw increased participation this year, providing an opportunity for younger players to develop alongside social teams. The Ladies' rugby team in action (Image: Supplied) The more serious contenders battled it out for the title, prize pot, and bragging rights. The Borrowby Broncos retained their title from last year. Elsewhere, the ladies' team eagerly participated in pre-season training under coach Robbo and entered a team in the Ripon RUFC 7s tournament in early July. They faced local teams, Ripon and Wensleydale, alongside touring teams, the Viper 7s and Filthy Fifths. In their opening fixture against the hosts, Ripon Bluebelles, Northallerton ladies secured a 5-43 victory, with tries from Ali O'Brien, Trinity Earnshaw, Amy Parker, and Emma Lawson. Cricket provided a way for club members to stay connected through sociable Thursday evening league games (Image: Supplied) The second match against the experienced Viper 7s saw Northallerton defend against a relentless onslaught of attacking play. Despite a solo try from O'Brien, the match ended 7-52 in favour of the Vipers. Their last group game against Wensleydale RUFC was a closely fought contest, with a final score of 7-14 to Northallerton, thanks to a decisive try by Gina Fothergill. The semi-final against the Filthy Fifths ended with a score of Northallerton 0 – Filthy Fifths 41. Despite the loss, the team thoroughly enjoyed their day and represented the club with pride. The team expressed their gratitude to Ripon for hosting and to all the supporters who cheered them on. The club also participated in cricket over the summer, with NRUFCCC providing a way for club members to stay connected through sociable Thursday evening league games. With renovations at Brompton Lodge, the team played all of their ten league fixtures away from home for the second season running. Their performance saw an improvement with a whole game won and several close-run scores. It is always encouraging to see how many players of a wide range of abilities want to take part and for any readers who would like to get involved in the cricket team next season, please do contact the club on social media or call in during the rugby season to find out more. Now, the focus is back on the upcoming rugby season, with pre-season training well underway. The ladies' first XV has been promoted to NC2 and the men's first XV will again compete in Yorkshire 2. The club is keen to build fitness levels for the upcoming trials. For any readers looking to join the club either to play rugby, get fitter or simply make new friends, please contact the club on social media to find out more. Training for the men's teams is as always on Tuesdays and Thursdays 7pm, the ladies train on Wednesday 7pm and the juniors play on Sundays 10am. All ages and abilities welcome.

Commanders activate Terry McLaurin off the PUP list as contract extension talks linger
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Commanders activated Terry McLaurin off the physically unable to perform list on Saturday amid lingering contract extension talks with the All-Pro wide receiver. McLaurin, who is entering the final year of a three-year, $68.2 million contract signed in 2022, reported to the team on July 27 after skipping the initial four days of training camp and June's mandatory minicamp. That turned a holdout to a hold-in but has not necessarily accelerated extension talks or returned McLaurin to practice. The team placed its top target on the PUP list with an ankle injury, and McLaurin requested a trade on July 31. McLaurin and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels fueled an offense that ranked fifth in points scored last season and carried the Commanders to a 12-5 regular-season record and the franchise's first NFC championship game appearance since 1991. They haven't built off that success in camp with the Sept. 7 regular-season opener against the New York Giants approaching. Three other offensive starters have missed significant time with injuries. The activation comes one day after offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury expressed a desire to work with a full lineup. 'We need to start getting those guys, when they're available out there,' Kingsbury said. ___
