J-K BJP chief Sat Sharma meets families of cross-border shelling victims
Poonch (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], May 14 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Sat Sharma visited the families of the victims who lost their lives in heavy cross-border shelling by Pakistan in recent days.
Speaking to ANI on Tuesday, Sharma said that Pakistan targeted civilian areas. Further referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address to the nation, the BJP leader also asserted that every action of Pakistan will be given a befitting reply.
'...We met the families who have lost their loved ones in Pakistani shelling... Pakistan targeted civilian areas... PM Modi clearly said that the fight between Pakistan and India is for Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and terrorism, and trade cannot go on simultaneously... Every action of Pakistan will be given a befitting reply,' BJP President Sat Sharma said.
Heavy cross-border shelling by Pakistan after Operation Sindoor, conducted by the Indian Armed Forces in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam attack, had caused damage to homes and religious sites in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara, Uri, and Poonch.
On Tuesday, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the Sub District Hospital in Kupwara to meet civilians who were injured in recent shelling by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC).
CM Abdullah also inspected community bunkers in Tangdhar and visited the shelling-affected areas.
After meeting residents affected by cross-border shelling in Kupwara, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that the government will compensate the people after the damage assessment is completed.
'By God's grace, we haven't lost any lives here, but of course, there is a loss of public property like houses, shops, and madrasas. The District Collector is with us. They will do the damage assessment. The assessment will be completed by today or tomorrow, and then the government will compensate the people accordingly. The immunity bunkers were made, but we didn't need them for a long time. And we will try to build individual bunkers around the border and LoC areas,' Abdullah told the media.
The J-K Chief Minister visited the Pakistani shelling-affected areas in Tangdhar and said that the residents affected have shown 'remarkable courage'.
After India and Pakistan came to an understanding of the cessation of hostilities, life slowly returned to normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir. (ANI)

All-party parliamentary delegation led by Shashi Tharoor wraps up U.S. visit
A multi-party parliamentary delegation wrapped up its visit to the U.S. after meeting with Vice President J.D. Vance and Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau among political and diplomatic leaders, to drive home India's strong resolve to combat terrorism emanating from Pakistan. The delegation, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, was on the last leg of a multi-nation tour to brief key interlocutors about Operation Sindoor that India launched in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. The delegation was one of the seven multi-party delegations India had tasked to visit 33 global capitals to reach out to the international community to emphasise Pakistan's links to terrorism. The group arrived in the U.S. capital on June 3 and over the course of three days held a wide array of meetings on Capitol Hill as well as in Washington, briefing American government officials as well as lawmakers about India's stance on cross-border terrorism. The Indian team met Vice President Vance, Mr. Landau, House Foreign Affairs Committee (HFAC) leadership, India Caucus leadership and Senate Foreign Relations Committee leaders. It also held meetings and interactions with a host of U.S. Congressmen, think tanks, policy experts, media as well as members of the Indian-American community. Mr. Tharoor described the meeting with Mr. Vance at the White House for about 25 minutes on Thursday (June 5, 2025) as 'an excellent meeting,' and said the Vice President was 'warm and welcoming and receptive.' 'Mr. Vance expressed complete understanding, first of all, outrage of what happened in Pahalgam and support and respect for India's restrained response in Operation Sindoor,' Mr. Tharoor told PTI after that meeting. After the delegation met Mr. Landau on Friday (June 6, 2025), a statement by State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said that the Deputy Secretary of State 'reaffirmed the United States' strong support of India in the fight against terrorism and the strategic partnership between the two countries.' 'We discussed the U.S.-India strategic relationship, including expanding trade and commercial ties to foster growth and prosperity for both countries,' Mr. Landau said. The Indian Embassy said in a statement that during the meeting with Mr. Landau, the delegation briefed him on the heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam, discussed India's subsequent Operation Sindoor, and put forth India's firm resolve to counter cross-border terrorism in all its forms. 'It is striking how many world capitals are adorned with statues or busts of the Mahatma, the 20th century's greatest apostle of peace, nonviolence, and human freedom,' Mr. Tharoor posted on X afterwards. The team, which had arrived from India in New York on May 24, had travelled to Guyana, Panama, Colombia and Brazil before arriving in Washington for the last leg of the tour. 'Reservation is our right': VIP chief Mukesh Sahani launches poll song, targets BJP on quota cap PATNA: As the political parties are gearing up for the assembly election in Bihar due in October-November this year, the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) of Mukesh Sahani on Sunday launched its poll song, 'Hai Haq Hamara Aarakshan'. Sahani said this is not just a song, but the roar of his Nishad community. "It is the echo of every voice that is fighting for equality and rights. Reservation is our right and we will get it," Sahani said. He also said till BJP is in power, the scope of reservation for backward and SC people cannot increase above 50%. "Only when the INDI Alliance forms govt, people of all sections will get participation as per their population," he said. When asked about the comment of Krishna Allavaru, the Congress in charge of Bihar, regarding the CM face, Mukesh Sahani said everything is clear. "When someone makes a claim then there will be a dispute. If Congress talks about its CM candidate, then discussion on that is also possible," he said. Sahani said the CM face will also be declared soon. On LJP (Ram Vilas) president and union minister Chirag Paswan's announcement to contest all 243 seats in Bihar to ensure NDA win strongly, Sahani took a dig at him and wished him to contest the elections himself. Heard of stampede deaths later in evening: Karnataka CM
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday said that he became aware of the deaths caused by the stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium only after 5.45pm on June 4, the day Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) held their IPL victory celebrations. The tragedy resulted in 11 fatalities and over 56 injuries. 'I came to know the deaths happened at 5.45pm. At 3.50pm, deaths were reported at the hospital, but I came to know about it only at 5.45pm. Until that point, I was not aware of deaths taking place due to the stampede. I have taken action against whoever has done wrong,' Siddaramaiah said. The CM's statement implied that he became aware of the incident only after the celebrations at Vidhana Soudha had concluded. He did not attend the event at Chinnaswamy Stadium, which began around 6.10pm and was attended by Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. The comments came a day after a letter came to light, written by Vidhana Soudha security officer MN Kariasavana who had flagged security concerns about holding the event outside the state assembly. 'Lakhs of people are supposed to come to Vidhana Soudha. Since there is a shortage of security personnel, security arrangements will be difficult,' he wrote to the department of personnel and administrative reforms secretary G Satyavanthi. Distancing himself from the event's organisation, the CM added, 'The incident happened near the cricket stadium. I have no connection with that. It should not have happened.' He explained that the event was organised by the cricket association. When asked about any planning meetings or involvement of top leaders, he denied any knowledge. He told reporters, 'Neither the Deputy Chief Minister…', then corrected himself saying, 'no, neither the Home Minister, nor I know about it (planning of meetings).' 'It was a normal procedure. The DPR secretary informed me about the event. I asked the Chief Secretary, and she said we could go ahead, especially since the police had agreed,' he was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. 'The KSCA Secretary and Treasurer met me and invited me. It is not organised by us. They had organised and I was invited. They told me that the Governor would also come... Other than that, I don't know anything. The government has nothing to do...I was not invited to the stadium event.' Responding to calls for his resignation, Siddaramaiah questioned the precedent, citing other tragedies where resignations were not demanded: 'A bridge fell off, did anyone resign then? In Kumbh Mela, 58 people died, did BJP or Kumaraswamy ask for the resignation of the Prime Minister?' Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) escalated its criticism of the Congress government over the tragedy. Senior BJP leaders, including Leader of Opposition R Ashok and MLA Prabhu Bhamla Chavan, protested at the steps of Vidhana Soudha, holding Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, and Home Minister G Parameshwara responsible and demanding their immediate resignations. 'The real culprits are the Chief Minister, the Deputy CM, and the Home Minister. All three should resign. This is the demand of the entire state,' Chavan said, accusing the government of scapegoating suspended police officers. 'They are being sacrificed to shield the ministers. We say, don't offer compensation. Instead, take moral responsibility and resign.' Ashok slammed the government for rushing the event without proper planning, resulting in loss of lives. 'This is not a government, it is a Tughlaq Durbar. Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar must step down,' he said, demanding compensation of ₹1 crore for each deceased and stressing the need for accountability. The BJP also opposed the suspension of police officers, including then Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda, asserting the police had no fault as permission for the parade had been denied. 'The BJP stands with the police and will fight for them,' Ashok said. The BJP has announced plans to meet Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot to seek his intervention and push for the dismissal of the government.
