Transformers director Michael Bay confirms new live-action film
Michael Bay is officially returning to direct a new Transformers movie for Paramount, marking his first entry in the franchise since 2017's The Last Knight. The announcement was made earlier today, generating immediate buzz and trending on X (formerly Twitter).
Bay directed the first five Transformers films, with highlights like Dark of the Moon and Age of Extinction each grossing over $1 billion worldwide. However, The Last Knight saw a sharp decline, earning around $605 million globally. Following that, Paramount pivoted to spin-offs such as Bumblebee (2018) and Rise of the Beasts (2023), both of which performed modestly at the box office.
The upcoming film is separate from other ongoing projects, including the animated Transformers One and a planned G.I. Joe crossover. Screenwriter Jordan VanDina is attached to the script, and the film is in early development.
No release date has been set, but Paramount must begin production by 2029 to retain rights to the franchise.

Paramount and Miramax have released the trailer for Roofman, starring Channing Tatum in a gripping crime drama based on a true story. The film follows a former Army Ranger and struggling father who, facing financial difficulties, resorts to robbing McDonald's by cutting holes in their roofs. His daring criminal acts earn him the moniker 'Roofman.' The story takes a turn when the character, after escaping from prison, hides out in a Toys 'R' Us store. There, he starts a new life, falling in love with a single mother, played by Kirsten Dunst, and her two daughters. However, his troubled past and a final robbery threaten his hopes of redemption. The ensemble cast includes Peter Dinklage, Ben Mendelsohn, LaKeith Stanfield, Juno Temple, Melonie Diaz, Uzo Aduba, Lily Collias, and Jimmy O. Yang. Directed by Derek Cianfrance, who co-wrote the screenplay with Kirt Gunn, Roofman also sees Tatum serving as an executive producer alongside Cianfrance and others.
