Skeletal remains found in home of late ex-Perak assemblyman
PETALING JAYA : Skeletal remains were found in the family home of former Pasir Bedamar assemblyman Wah Keng Jooi on Saturday, believed to be those of the late MCA man's youngest son.
Hilir Perak police chief Bakri Zainal Abidin said a police report was lodged at about 2.25pm on Saturday by a 78-year-old man who had gone to the wooden house to visit his younger brother, who stayed there on his own.
'When he arrived at the house, he noticed a foul smell. He tried but failed to find his younger brother, and could not go upstairs as the wooden staircase had decayed,' he said, according to Sinar Harian.
Bakri said an investigation led to the discovery of the skeletal remains. Also at the house was a pet dog, which was still alive, along with the victim's personal belongings.
The remains were sent to Teluk Intan Hospital for an autopsy, and the case has been classified as sudden death.
Wah was Pasir Bedamar's first assemblyman, serving in the post from 1959 to 1964.

The AGC stated that further investigations by the police were necessary to ensure all aspects of the case were thoroughly examined. Zara Qairina, 13, was confirmed dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, on July 17. 10 luxury cars seized in Negeri Sembilan for expired road tax, insurance

(Bernama pic) SEREMBAN : The Negeri Sembilan road transport department (JPJ) has seized 10 luxury vehicles since January following the owners' failure to renew their road tax and insurance. State JPJ director Hanif Yusabra Yusof said the cars included a Porsche Taycan, Toyota Alphard, and Mini Cooper Countryman. Some of the cars, worth hundreds of thousands of ringgit, had not had their road tax and insurance renewed for almost two years, he said. Hanif said such behaviour posed a serious risk to public well-being as victims of accidents involving uninsured vehicles would face problems with claims for compensation and damage. 'The owners' excuse was that they 'forgot' to renew the road tax and insurance… Such excuses are unacceptable,' he told reporters here today. 'If we can afford to own a vehicle, we must take responsibility for renewing its insurance and road tax. We cannot be negligent. 'The vehicles will be returned to the owners if they comply with all the regulations.' Hanif said the vehicles had been sent to the state JPJ depot for further investigation under the Road Transport Act 1987. He said 10,435 motorists were cited for road tax offences and 7,891 for lacking insurance based on state JPJ records from January to July.

JPJ confiscating commercial vehicles from companies employing foreign drivers

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The road transport department (JPJ) will confiscate vehicles owned by companies and licensed operators that employ foreigners to drive commercial vehicles, effective today. JPJ's senior enforcement director Kifli Ma Hassan said this includes lorries, public service vehicles (PSV) and tour buses that use foreign drivers. He said based on current regulations, foreigners are not allowed to hold vocational licences such as goods driving licences (GDL) or PSV licences. 'Enforcement action can be taken under Sections 22, 41, 57 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 for violating permit conditions and Section 80, which says officers can seize a commercial company's vehicle and have it forfeited in court if found guilty,' Bernama reported him as saying at the JPJ enforcement station in Gombak today. Kifli said there has been an increasing trend of companies and licensed operators employing foreigners for around RM2,500 a month. As of July this year, JPJ has issued 2,733 summonses against foreigners driving commercial vehicles, with 2,551 of them for not having GDLs, 93 for not having PSV licences and 89 for overloading. 'Licensed companies and operators in the transport industry are urged to always comply with the regulations set and ensure that every employee hired has valid documents and qualifications,' he said.
