Altered news report falsely claims victim of Duterte's drug crackdown 'still alive'
The clip also appears to show the same man -- who claimed to be her ex-boyfriend -- saying she lied that he was killed during Duterte's drug crackdown.

The clip also shows text that reads, "Another victim that they claim to be dead but is still alive."
Duterte's supporters published dozens of online posts targeting the families of drug war victims, seeking to discredit their accounts of extrajudicial killings after the former president's arrest (archived link).
Sheerah Escudero, the woman in the video, said people on social media had accused her of being a liar and a drug addict, with some even sending personal messages telling her she deserved to be killed and beheaded.
Her brother Ephraim was found dead in 2017 at the height of the crackdown.
Escudero and other kin of drug war victims filed complaints with Philippine authorities on April 4, demanding an investigation into the threats.
The false video spread elsewhere on TikTok and Facebook.
Comments suggest some users believed the man in the false post was related to Escudero and was still alive.
"File charges on that person who misused your picture...you're not an addict but they made you appear one," one user said.
"They say 30,000 were victims of EJK (extrajudicial killings). And then they show a picture of someone who's still alive," another wrote.
Google keyword searches of the news chyron in the false video found it originated from a report aired by Philippine broadcaster News5 on March 15, 2025 (archived link).
It shows Escudero holding a different picture.
News5 said on its official Facebook page that the false video was edited from "a report aired on #FrontlineWeekend on March 15 about the loved ones of the victims of the drug war" (archived link).
It asked the public to be more critical of social media posts.
Subsequent keyword searches led to the same video in a Facebook post uploaded on the account of a digital creator named Jay Borge Mercado Ugay on March 17 (archived link).
A photo similar to the one in the altered video can be seen on his account (archived link).
Escudero took to social media on March 18 to dismiss the false video (archived link).
"When did you become my ex, Jay Borge Mercado Ugay?" she said. "Also, look at that face -- it looks nothing like Ephraim."
Duterte's arrest sparked a firestorm of online misinformation, many of which AFP has debunked.

Charges filed after Virginia councilman set on fire outside downtown office
Police on Thursday charged a suspect with attempted first-degree murder after a Virginia city councilman and sales executive was set on fire outside his workplace Wednesday. Danville police identified the suspect as Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes, 29. He was also charged with aggravated malicious wounding in the case, which police have said stemmed from a personal matter between the two men. Danville councilman Lee Vogler, 38, was being treated at a burn center in Lynchburg, Virginia, where he was airlifted after the midday attack. The extent of his injuries is unknown. Police said Wednesday that officers had responded around 11:30 a.m. to an office building in central Danville, several blocks away from city hall, after a report of a man set on fire. Danville, a city of 42,000, is in southwest Virginia at the North Carolina border, about 45 minutes north of Greensboro. Andrew Brooks, publisher and owner of Showcase Magazine, said in a video posted on Facebook that a man had forced his way into the magazine's offices with a five-gallon bucket of gasoline before pouring it on Vogler, the publication's sales director. "Lee attempted to flee and ran to the front of the building," he said. "The individual followed him and set him on fire." Officers, acting on witness descriptions, apprehended Buck Hayes in his vehicle a few blocks away and arrested him without incident. He is being held without bond in Danville City Jail. Relative of 4 found dead in Tennessee says her family 'trusted' murder suspect who is on the run
A relative of four people found dead in Tennessee this week described her family as heartbroken and confused, saying in a Facebook post Thursday that the suspect has 'literally been nothing short of amazing to us and our kids.' The statement, written by a woman who identified herself as the sister-in-law and aunt of three victims, was posted after the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation identified the suspect as Austin Robert Drummond, 29. Drummond, who is wanted on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping and firearms offenses, remains at large and should be considered armed and dangerous, the agency said in a news release. Drummond, who was added to the state's "most wanted" list, is believed to be driving a 2016 Audi A3. A reward of $15,000 is being offered for information leading to his arrest. Authorities have not identified a possible motive. The Facebook post's author, who said she is married to the brother of one of the victims, did not respond to messages on the platform or phone numbers associated with her. NBC News verified her Facebook profile. The victims, found Tuesday in northwest Tennessee's Lake County, were identified as Matthew Wilson, 21; Adrianna Williams, 20; Courtney Rose, 38; and Braydon Williams, 15. OUR KIDS ARE HURTING.' 'We want justice for my sister in law, niece, nephew, and nieces boyfriend,' the post added. Public records show that Drummond was convicted of armed robbery in nearby Madison County in 2014. His sentence ended last September, prison records show. Two months after the completion of that sentence, Drummond was charged with attempted murder and drug crimes, court records in Lake County show. Goodman said the allegations were related to crimes he is accused of committing while incarcerated at Northwest Correctional Complex, a prison in Lake County. Drummond was out on bond for those charges at the time of the quadruple killing, Goodman said. His lawyer in the attempted murder case did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
