Jude Bellingham could be out until October following shoulder surgery
London
Real Madrid and England midfielder Jude Bellingham has undergone shoulder surgery.
It was reported in May that Bellingham would have surgery following this summer's Club World Cup and on Wednesday, Real confirmed the procedure had taken place to treat a recurring dislocation of his left shoulder.
The surgery is reportedly set to sideline him until October, but the Spanish club did not confirm any length of absence, saying only that Bellingham would now 'begin a period of rehabilitation prior to his return to recovery work'.
Real said the surgery had been performed by Drs Manuel Leyes and Andrew Wallace, under the supervision of Real Madrid Medical Services.
Bellingham is now set to miss the start of Real's LaLiga campaign and also England's World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia in September.
The 22-year-old and his Real team-mates came home empty-handed from the Club World Cup to round off a disappointing campaign where they finished runners-up to Barcelona in the league and fell to Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Carlo Ancelotti, who stood down as Real coach at the end of the regular season but before the Club World Cup, highlighted the issue with Bellingham's shoulder back in December 2023 and said at the time: 'The shoulder is very particular.

Liverpool's Slot leaves Diaz out of friendly loss
PA Media/dpa London Liverpool head coach Arne Slot left Luis Diaz out of their 4-2 friendly defeat to AC Milan in Hong Kong due to ongoing speculation about his future. Bayern Munich are understood to have reopened dialogue with the Premier League champions, having had an initial offer of ?67.5 million($79.2 million) dismissed last week. Liverpool have maintained they do not want to sell the forward - who has also attracted interest from Barcelona - and the Bundesliga champions' bid was way below their own valuation of ?100 million for an elite forward in the global market. Diaz turns 29 in January and has two years left on his current deal but has not yet had an offer of a new contract. 'In Lucho's (Diaz's) situation, there's a lot of rumours around him lately and I cannot go into that,' said Slot. 'He's training really well with us but we have decided for now not to play him yet. 'I'm used to talking to most of my players on a regular basis. I cannot comment much more about that.' Asked whether Diaz wanted to leave, Slot added: 'That is not the person to ask, me.' Striker Darwin Nunez, whose own future appears to lie away from Anfield, and midfielder Wataru Endo missed the game with minor fitness issues. Club-record signing Florian Wirtz made his first start as a false nine, with latest signing Hugo Ekitike left out of the squad, having only arrived on Thursday. Slot played two different starting XIs in each half, with midfielder Ryan Gravenberch and left back Kostas Tsimikas both required to fill a centre back role after Joe Gomez returned home for treatment on an Achilles injury. 'We thought it was better to assess it back in England and for him to work on him to come back to the team, probably in more ideal circumstances for him,' added Slot, who denied Gomez's absence left him dangerously-short in the position after selling Jarrell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen. 'I don't think we have a concern at centre back. I think Ryan (Gravenberch) showed today that he can play in that position. He did it last season as well. 'Although we all know we favour him as a number six, Wata (Endo) can play there. Joe Gomez only has a minor injury, he has been good for us last season as well. 'We have enough options left but it's true that Jarell Quansah left and we haven't replaced him yet.'

Pressure? What pressure? Spain eves eye more history in Euro final
dpa Basel, Switzerland World champions Spain go into Sunday's Euro 2025 final with England looking to create more history and say their love for the game means there is no extra pressure. The Spanish beat England 1-0 in the World Cup final in Sydney two years ago and they meet again in Basel with the Lionesses this time defending Euro champions. 'I don't think about pressure,' coach Montse Tomé told a news conference on Saturday. 'I think during the whole tournament we have been writing history - getting to semis and the final for the first time, beating Germany for the first time. We have been accomplishing objectives and that's the reason we're here.' They two sides have met twice this year in the Nations League, with one win each. England meanwhile have won the quarter- and semi-finals in Switzerland with late comebacks. 'They showed in this tournament that even if they don't play well they win,' added Tomé, whose squad have no fitness concerns. 'It's a final. We know it's a complicated game against a big national team and the current champion. We played twice against them this year, we know it will be hard. For the team, I have 23 players.' Spain captain Irene Paredes agreed with her coach about a lack of pressure. 'I said that for my favourites, England were there. Both teams deserve the final,' she said. 'We don't like the idea of being favourites. We know what it takes to be here, what we suffered. 'We are a team who don't see this game as a pressure but as an opportunity to continue writing history, do something big and to show ourselves and let people enjoy.' Spain's World Cup win is remembered internationally because of the kiss scandal involving former Spanish FA head Luis Rubiales. The captain said they hope this final is remembered for football. 'Since 2023 we made big steps forwards. This idea (that women don't belong in football) is disappearing from society,' Paredes remarked. 'I still believe we have to continue opening doors to normalize situations which are more and more normal. We broke many obstacles, we are references for boys and girls in society but we still have things to do.'

Pogacar on cusp of 4th Tour de France victory
PA Media/dpa Paris Kaden Groves won stage 20 of the Tour de France from a breakaway in Pontarlier as Tadej Pogacar came through the penultimate day unscathed to ensure he will wear yellow into Paris on Sunday. Groves left Frank van den Broek and Briton Jake Stewart behind with 16 kilometres of the rolling 184km stage from Nantua remaining, taking advantage of their hesitancy to quickly build a lead as he won by 55 seconds from Van den Broek, completing a trilogy with wins in all three Grand Tours. Behind, the peloton rolled in some seven minutes down, happy to survive a damp day that saw several riders crash as Pogacar retained his 4 minute 24 second lead over rival Jonas Vingegaard on the last day before Paris. The addition of three ascents of the Montmartre climb to Sunday's finale should rule out the usual Champs-Elysees sprint and keep the racing on for one more day - subject to a threat of rain - but Pogacar can almost start celebrating his fourth Tour title and begin plotting a record-equalling fifth. Groves' first career Tour stage win was a third of this race for his Alpecin-Deceuninck team but the first since stage two, with their previous two winners Jasper Philipsen and Mathieu van der Poel since lost to injury and illness. Pogacar mathematically secured the king of the mountains' polka dot jersey early on this stage, with yellow surely set to follow on Sunday.
