Student abducted and assaulted by gang of youths in Bengaluru who refer to Renukaswamy murder case

The Hindu2 days ago
The Bengaluru police have arrested a group of eight youths who allegedly assaulted and tortured a student after disrobing him in an isolated place, and made a video of the attack referring to the Renukaswamy murder case, in which Kannada film actor Darshan was arrested. The incident took place on June 30.
The victim Kushal K.M., 19, was reportedly in a relationship with his classmate, a minor girl, who broke up with him and got into another relationship. Enraged by this, Kushal allegedly started fighting with her over messages, objecting to her behaviour. He allegedly also sent indecent and lewd messages, forcing the girl to complain to her friend.
On June 30, the girl reportedly called Kushal to meet her, and talk it out and sort all issues. However, in his complaint, Kushal said that when he went to meet the girl he was confronted by a group of youths , instead of the girl.
The group allegedly asked him to delete the girl's photos and videos from his mobile and started beating him. They forcefully took him in a car near a college and assaulted him. When he said that he had kept the phone at his home, they reportedly took him home, made him delete all the photos and videos of the girl, handed over the phone to his mother and took him from his home again.
In his complaint, Kushal alleged that he was beaten, humiliated and tortured in the car and they later took him to a grove near Aaluru Lake, where they beat him with a cane, forced him to disrobe and tortured him.
The accused recorded the video of the assault, and the girl who was present at the spot was also seen in the video. In the video that has now gone viral, one of the accused says this case is akin to the Renukaswamy murder case and introduces Kushal as Renukaswamy.
It can be recalled that in June, 2024, Kannada film actor Darshan and his partner Pavithra Gowda were arrested, along with their associates, for allegedly abducting Renukaswamy for sending indecent messages to Ms. Gowda on Instagram. Renukaswamy was a fan of the actor. He was employed in a medical store in Chitradurga. He was allegedly tortured to death in a shed at Pattandur Agrahara in Bengaluru on June 8, 2024.
In this case, the victim Kushal K.M. was also tortured for many hours and later dropped back home, after warning him with dire consequences if he ever spoke to the girl again.
Kushal narrated the ordeal to his parents before filing a complaint with the police. Based on his complaint, the police tracked down the accused charging them under sections 137(2) (kidnapping from lawful guardianship), 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 352(intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of peace) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023, and arrested eight persons identified as Shivashankar A., 20, Yeshwanth Patel, 20, Hemanth, 18, Salman Khan, 23, Rahul M., 20, Tejas S., 20, Rakesh R., 21, and N. Shashank Gowda, 19.
Seven among them are students and one is works at a private firm. The police also summoned the girl and recorded her statement who is also accused in the case.

'That's Not How...': Bengaluru Student After Non-Consensual Video Goes Viral On Instagram

Last Updated: The girl claimed that she was filmed without her permission, and despite her efforts to get the post removed and report the account, no action was taken. A young girl has raised concerns on Instagram about an account that has been posting reels of women without their consent as they walk on Church Street and other parts of Bengaluru. She claimed that she was filmed without her permission, and despite her efforts to get the post removed and report the account, no action was taken. She further mentioned that she had been receiving vulgar messages from people because of the reel. The page contains several videos of women walking on the road, without them knowing that they are being recorded. In fact, several women seemed surprised when they see camera pointed towards them. 'This person roams around Church Street pretending to film the 'chaos', but in reality, they just follow women and record them without their consent. It happened to me, and I'm sure many others don't realize they have been filmed too. Just because my account is public doesn't mean I consent to be filmed publicly," a woman posted on Instagram. 'That's not how consent works. And this isn't how you gain views or engagement on Instagram. I genuinely hope this person gets caught. Tagging @blrcitypolice @cybercrimecid and sharing this in the hope it reaches the right people," she added. She urged the Bangalore and cyber crime police to help her get this taken down the account. The Bengaluru Police has not yet responded to the post. view comments First Published: July 10, 2025, 08:24 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Ethel Cain issues public apology for 8-year-old racist posts, calls them ‘shameful' ahead of new album launch

American singer-songwriter Ethel Cain has issued a public apology after old social media posts containing racist and offensive content resurfaced online. The posts, made when she was 19, included the use of racial slurs, offensive jokes about rape and body image, and controversial images. The posts began circulating on Reddit and X, just weeks ahead of the release of her second album, Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You, slated for August. Cain, whose real name is Hayden Anhedönia, shared a lengthy statement on Instagram on July 9, acknowledging her past remarks and expressing remorse. 'I was 19 and I was entirely aware of what I was saying and that was why I said it,' Cain wrote. 'All I can say is that I am truly sorry from the bottom of my heart.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play War Thunder now for free War Thunder Play Now Undo Cain admitted the accounts and posts in question were hers. She described her younger self as deliberately provocative, seeking attention through inflammatory language. In the statement, she said she no longer stands by those views and now looks back on that time "shamefully." She rejected excuses for her behavior, saying: 'At the end of the day, I am white… I can take accountability for my actions, but there's no way for me to fully understand the way it feels to be on the receiving end of them.' Live Events Cain said that she intends to use her platform for progress and atonement through her actions going forward. Claims of Harassment and Hacking While apologizing, Cain also pushed back against the manner in which the posts were unearthed. She alleged that the resurfacing was part of a deliberate 'smear campaign' involving hacking, harassment, and doxxing. 'These are screenshots obtained through extensive digging, hacking, and cooperative effort amongst a group of individuals,' she wrote. 'This information was hoarded until the perfect moment arose to unleash it.' She claimed personal accounts were compromised, her family was targeted, and private childhood photos were circulated. Her team is reportedly pursuing legal action. Responds to Specific Allegations Cain also addressed more serious claims, including accusations related to artwork some deemed inappropriate and a photo that critics alleged suggested animal abuse. She denied all such accusations, explaining them in context: She said a homemade shirt with 'Legalize Incest' was a provocative joke during a time she sought shock value online. Cain explained that a character in her art, allegedly depicted in sexualized ways, represented her trauma after a sexual assault. The character was of legal age, mirroring Cain's own. Describing the image as a moment at a party, she called the allegation 'absurd.' She admitted to mistakenly using a poster linked to a real child's case as part of an album promo. She apologized, calling it careless but unintentional. Pushes Back Against 'Fetishization' Claims Cain also responded to accusations that her work 'fetishizes' the female experience and trauma. As a transgender woman, she defended her right to explore themes of abuse and fear in her art. 'Preacher's Daughter is a deeply personal story to me, born from my traumas and deepest fears,' she said. 'If it reads as a fetish to you, then that is your problem and not mine.' Ethel Cain rose to fame with her 2022 debut Preacher's Daughter, which was widely praised for its raw storytelling and haunting sound. As one of the most prominent transgender artists in pop and alternative music today, Cain's public reckoning comes at a sensitive moment amid political polarization and increased scrutiny of public figures' digital histories.
