Delhi CM announces campaign for cleanest constituency, Rs 1 crore reward
During a preparatory meeting for the 'Delhi Freedom from Garbage' cleanliness drive aimed at transforming the capital into one of the cleanest and greenest cities in the country, Gupta said the best-performing Resident Welfare Association (RWA) will be awarded Rs 25 lakh, while the second and third positions will receive Rs 15 lakh and Rs 10 lakh, respectively.
The cleanest ward will get Rs 50 lakh, and the cleanest assembly constituency will receive Rs 1 crore in funding, she added.
RWAs and organisations participating in the campaign are required to upload before-and-after photos on a dedicated portal, which will be used to evaluate performance and disburse the prize money, she added.
Gupta said Rs five crore has been allocated to the MCD for the campaign, assuring full government support to all those contributing to a cleaner Delhi.
'We are writing a golden chapter in Delhi's history. For the first time, agencies like the MCD, Delhi government, PWD, Delhi Police, and others are working together in full coordination," Gupta said, urging every citizen to take ownership under the campaign's motto 'Meri Delhi, Meri Zimmedari" (My Delhi, My Responsibility).
The drive will run from August 1 to 31, with the first two days focused on clearing backlogs in schools, hospitals, and offices. Every Saturday and Sunday, efforts will be concentrated on unauthorised colonies and JJ clusters.
Special clean-up drives are also planned at Yamuna ghats on August 14, 21, and 28, while Ring Road will be cleaned on August 29 and 31.
Meanwhile, taking a dig at the previous AAP government, Gupta said it had created a negative image of Delhi but under the leadership of the prime minister, a 'positive and united front" is now working to address the city's long-standing issues starting with the problem of garbage. Day after relief for AAP's Satyendar Jain in PWD hiring case, Delhi govt claims Rs 650-cr fraud in LNJP project
A day after a CBI closure report in a corruption case came as a relief to former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain, the BJP government on Tuesday levelled fresh allegations of irregularities in the construction of a new block at the LNJP Hospital under the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said the government has sent a file to Lt Governor V.K. Saxena for a probe into the matter. The AAP, however, rejected the claims and slammed the ruling BJP over 'frivolous and baseless cases' in a statement. Speaking to the reporters, the PWD Minister claimed that the project's budget was inflated by Rs 650 crore during Jain's tenure as the PWD and health minister. 'There is a difference between the budget sanctioned for the construction of a new block at LNJP Hospital earlier and today. The amount has increased by Rs 650 crore. Jain suggested changes during reviews to benefit the contractors, which led to cost escalation. There was a scam of Rs 650 crore. We have sent a file to the L-G on this matter. He will forward it to either ACB Or CBI for inquiry in the matter,' Singh said. According to officials, a committee was constituted to examine the procedural lapses, which found that the original contract amount was Rs 465 crore, which escalated to Rs 1,139 crore, almost 243% higher. The committee highlighted irregularities and violations in consultancy work under Jain. It also alleged the 'selection of the favoured architect consultant was done through a questionable process that was marred with irregularities and in gross violation of provisions of GFR'. According to documents, the consultancy work was awarded for an area of 84,420 sqm with a value of Rs 5.27 crore to a contractor on nomination basis without calling for any tender as per the decision of the then Health Minister. It also stated that even as six consultants were empanelled, it was specifically noted that financial bids were called separately for each project. 'However this condition was flouted and then arbitrary decision was taken to appoint consultants district wise or region wise, stating that a single consultant with deal with all projects there in… Bids were invited for consultancy work pertaining to district central for an area of 90,000 square metres with the value of Rs. 5.62 crore,' reads the document. Meanwhile, AAP in its response said, 'The BJP and its ministers are obsessed with the ACB, CBI, and ED. Every day, they hatch conspiracies against AAP leaders, waste time drafting baseless and frivolous cases, and squander taxpayers' money on directionless investigations.' On the PWD hiring case, it added, 'Just a day ago, the court taught them a lesson by closing one of the CBI cases against Satyendar Jain. The court clearly stated that the CBI had registered a baseless case with no corruption, no criminality, and no evidence. Yet, the minister's home was raided, and he was harassed for eight years.'

A British-era phansi-ghar (execution room) in Delhi Assembly or a tiffin room? This question was at the heart of a heated political exchange in the House on the second day of the Monsoon session. Citing a map from 2011 when the Assembly building was constructed, Speaker Vijender Gupta said that the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government under the then chief minister Arvind Kejriwal in 2022 falsely claimed that the premises had a British-era 'phansi-ghar' and then renovated it. It was, in fact, a 'tiffin room' used for carrying food and other items, he said. Gupta also said that the AAP government's claims about the existence of a tunnel connecting the Assembly to the Red Fort were incorrect. However, former CM and AAP leader Atishi rebutted, saying that the BJP government was avoiding core issues and wasting the taxpayers' money by discussing such matters in the House. Addressing the Assembly, Delhi minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said, 'It was Ram Niwas Goel, the then Speaker of Delhi Assembly, who had called it an execution room. But it does not conform to the maps that we have found.' He accused Kejriwal of spending 'lakhs of rupees' on the structure's renovation and 'distorting history'. The Minister said that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has confirmed that it was not a historical site. 'Some official told Kejriwal that a 'phansi-ghar' existed here… he went ahead with the renovation without even consulting ASI or Delhi archives.' The Speaker too slammed the previous AAP government, saying, 'A plaque has been installed at the spot, bearing the date August 9, 1942. It was inaugurated as a tourist attraction with the claim that a gallows once existed at that spot. However, the truth is that no gallows ever existed there.' He said that the room was actually a 'tiffin room' and the wooden lift inside it was used for carrying food and other items, but it has been 'incorrectly' described as a 'gallows and trapdoor'. Saying that it concerns the dignity of this entire institution, Gupta urged the Opposition to clarify its position on the issue. He also demanded an apology from the AAP chief. In a statement, Atishi attacked the ruling party, 'What is the point of discussion in the Assembly today? Running a session of the Delhi Assembly costs lakhs of rupees every hour. This is the hard-earned money of Delhi's people — of taxpayers — money we earn through our labour and give to the government.' 'And yet, you won't allow a discussion on jhuggis, on schools, on the shortage of medicines in hospitals, or the worsening law and order situation. Instead, the only thing BJP wants to talk about is a 'hanging room'?' she added. Foreign firms' profit used to finance terror, go swadeshi instead: CM Yogi
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday urged people to use 'swadesh' or local products and warned that money spent on foreign goods will be used in promoting terrorism, religious conversion, and to hit India's economic stability. The chief minister also unveiled development projects worth over Rs 957 crore for Aligarh. The key initiatives included a drinking water restructuring scheme, a forensic science lab, a new degree college in Atrauli, a 900-kiloliter water reservoir, and the widening and beautification of the Atrauli–Railway Station road.
