Trump gets a $400 million luxury jet from Qatar, Americans get five pencils. MAGA!
Republican Ari Fleischer, a Fox News contributor who was press secretary under President George W. Bush and is apparently now a liberal squish, wrote on social media: 'Nothing about getting Air Force One from a foreign government feels right." Fleischer is wrong. Based on the way Trump is talking about the jet, it feels great.
"They're giving us a free jet," he said.
Speaking recently about possible consumer price increases stemming from his patriotic tariffs, the president told American families that their children don't need more than three dolls and five pencils. The MAGA math here is straightforward: We get to buy our children three dolls and five pencils, and the already-rich president gets a free opulent jet that has a stairwell, an upper deck lounge, two bedrooms and nine bathrooms.
Perfectly fair. Rich people deserve nice things, too.
Opinion: Why do America's children want hundreds of pencils? Trump attacks eraser culture | Opinion
If accepted, the Qatari jet would be retrofitted — at a cost I assume that would be more than three dolls and five pencils — and used as a new Air Force One. Asked about the non-bribe, Trump said: 'I would never be one to turn down that kind of an offer. I could be a stupid person and say, 'No, we don't want a free, very expensive airplane.' But I thought it was a great gesture.'
Nothing dodgy about that.
Just the president accepting $400 million worth of winged decadence from a country where his son — representing the family business — recently signed a deal to develop a $5.5 billion golf club called the Trump International Golf Club, Simaisima. This is just totally normal president-ing stuff that would only be an issue if the president were a Marxist radical Democrat like "Sleepy" Joe Biden, in which case it would require both impeachment and imprisonment.
Besides, this gift-jet would be used while Trump is president — because he currently only has two Air Force One jets with another two on order — and then might be "gifted" to his presidential library when he leaves office. That would mean regular Americans won't have to buy Trump a gift when he leaves office, freeing up money to purchase more pencils for our children, assuming that by then they've used the five previously allotted.
Trump, with the innocence of a lamb, said: 'It would go directly to the library after I leave office.'
Correct. It would go to the library. Then it would presumably go wherever Trump and his family wanted to fly, because who wants to live in a country where former leaders have to get around in jets that don't have an upper-deck lounge? Imagine how bad we would all feel if the man who brought us MAGA had to endure post-presidency travel on a jet with, say, five bathrooms. That would be unacceptable.
Qatari officials said in a statement: 'The possible transfer of an aircraft for temporary use as Air Force One is currently under consideration between Qatar's Ministry of Defense and the U.S. Department of Defense, but the matter remains under review by the respective legal departments, and no decision has been made.' Or as Trump put it, while confirming he would be getting a free jet: 'I could say no, no, no don't give us. I want to pay you a billion or $400 million or whatever it is, or I could say thank you very much.'
So I say "enough" to any griping about the optics of this possible $400 million definitely-not-a-bribe gift, or about the fact that the 'Make America Great Again' president would be flying around on a foreign country's swank-jet. We the people can get by on doll-and-pencil rationing, but we can't ask a billionaire president to purchase his own luxury jet.
That would require him to tap into all the money he has made selling MAGA merchandise. And that, quite frankly, would be un-MAGA-American.

Trump calls Democratic senator ‘unattractive,' touts new White House flags, in series of late-night Truth Social rants ahead of Zelensky meeting
President Donald Trump was up late on Sunday ahead of his latest all-important meeting on Ukraine, engaging in a wild posting spree that saw him ricochet from insulting a Democratic senator's appearance to raving about his new White House flag poles. On Monday, Trump will host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington, alongside European heads of state Keir Starmer, Emmanuel Macron, and Friedrich Merz, three days after his summit with Vladimir Putin in Alaska failed to yield a definite commitment to peace. Obsessing over media coverage of Friday's talks in Anchorage, the president wrote on Truth Social: 'The Fake News has been saying for 3 days that I suffered a 'major defeat' by allowing President Vladimir Putin of Russia to have a major Summit in the United States. Actually, he would have loved doing the meeting anywhere else but the U.S., and the Fake News knows this. It was a major point of contention! 'If we had the Summit elsewhere, the Democrat run and controlled media would have said what a terrible thing THAT was. These people are sick! They even want CRIME IN D.C., and other BLUE Cities throughout our Country, but don't worry, I won't let that happen. Just like our now secure Southern Border (ZERO illegals in last 3 months!), our cities will be Secure and Safe, and D.C. will lead the way!' From there, Trump pivoted to attacking Sen. Chris Murphy. On Sunday, the Connecticut Democrat appeared on NBC's Meet the Press where he told host Kristen Welker the Alaska summit had been 'an embarrassment for the United States' and a 'failure' that had played into Putin's hands. 'The very unattractive (both inside and out!) Senator from Connecticut, Chris Murphy, said 'Putin got everything that he wanted,' the president fumed. 'Actually, 'nobody got anything,' too soon, but getting close. Murphy is a lightweight who thinks it made the Russian President look good in coming to America. Actually, it was very hard for President Putin to do so. This war can be ended, NOW, but stupid people like Chris Murphy, John Bolton, and others, make it much harder to do so.' He went on to issue a warning to Zelensky ahead of their latest Oval Office encounter on Monday: 'President Zelenskyy of Ukraine can end the war with Russia almost immediately, if he wants to, or he can continue to fight. Remember how it started. No getting back Obama given Crimea (12 years ago, without a shot being fired!), and NO GOING INTO NATO BY UKRAINE. Some things never change!!!' On a more upbeat note, he added: 'Big day at the White House tomorrow. Never had so many European Leaders at one time. My great honor to host them!!!' Woven in amongst the umpteen pop-up adverts for My Pillow and joint pain and bunion remedies that now seem to dominate his feed, Trump unexpectedly returned to declare: 'One year ago, the United States was an almost DEAD COUNTRY. Now we are the 'HOTTEST' Country anywhere in the World, the envy of all. What a difference a President makes!!!' The self-congratulation continued as he asked: 'Do the great American Flags I put up in front of both entrances of the White House look FANTASTIC, or what??? WOW, what a difference!!!' That off-topic observation was followed by two clips from Fox News in a quick session, discussing 'FAR LEFT HYSTERICS' and 'DEEP STATE RECKONING' respectively. The social media outpouring, characterized as a 'brain dump' by The Daily Beast, perhaps indicates that the president is feeling the pressure ahead of Monday's meeting, having vowed on the campaign trail last year to end the war in his first day in office – a promise he never came close to honoring. Trump envoy Steve Witkoff claimed that Putin had agreed to 'game-changing' security protections during Friday's summit. Others have suggested, however, that the Russian was busy 'flattering' his American counterpart and fear Zelensky could be about to walk into another ambush at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, as he did in February when he was shockingly rebuked by the president and Vice President JD Vance over his alleged ingratitude towards his international allies.

Alaskan man gifted new motorcycle by Putin during Trump summit
(Reuters) -A local man in Anchorage was given a new motorcycle by Russian President Vladimir Putin during last week's summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in the Alaskan city, according to a report published by Russian state television. An employee of the Russian embassy in the United States handed the man, Mark Warren, the keys to his new Ural motorcycle in the parking lot of the Anchorage hotel where the Russian delegation was staying. "I have to say that this is a personal gift from the President of the Russian Federation," Andrei Ledenev, the embassy employee, told Warren. The white-haired, bespectacled Warren, who Reuters was unable to contact for comment, was shown hopping aboard his new bike, Ledenev behind him and another man in the sidecar, to take it for a spin. "It's night and day," Warren said. "I like my old one, but this one is obviously much better." "I'm speechless, it's amazing. Thank you very much." The unexpected gift by the Russian leader came after reporters with Russian state television Channel 1 met Warren by chance on the streets of Anchorage ahead of the summit. The reporters stopped to admire Warren's bike, which is manufactured by Ural, whose original factory was founded in 1941 in what was then Soviet Russia. Warren told a reporter, Valentin Bogdanov, that he struggled to obtain spare parts for the bike, including a new starter, because the manufacturing plant is "located in Ukraine." "So for you, if they resolve this conflict here in Alaska, I mean Putin and Trump, it will be good?" Bogdanov asks Warren. "Yes, it will be good," the Alaskan replies. Ural, which is headquartered in Washington State, says that all of its motorcycles are assembled in Kazakhstan. The company pulled all its production out of Russia after the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine. Ural did not immediately reply to a request for comment outside working hours in the U.S.

Coastal Bend LNG and Solvanic Announce Carbon Capture FEED Study
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Coastal Bend LNG, developer of a multi-train natural gas liquefaction and export facility along the Texas Gulf Coast, today announced it has commenced a front-end engineering and design (FEED) study with Solvanic for electrochemically mediated amine regeneration (EMAR) carbon capture at its Coastal Bend LNG facility. Solvanic has signed an option agreement for use of the EMAR technology, originally developed by Professor T. Alan Hatton's research group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Department of Chemical Engineering. The technology uses an electrochemical process to release carbon dioxide (CO 2) captured by amines with electricity, rather than high temperature steam traditionally used in thermal amine systems. This innovative approach reduces the energy requirements and capital costs for carbon capture and enables much greater flexibility across operating conditions and process scales. The EMAR technology has been in development at MIT for over a decade, with recent breakthroughs by Dr. Michael Massen-Hane and Dr. Michael Nitzsche, paving the way for emissions reductions that were previously infeasible. Drs. Massen-Hane and Nitzsche have since become co-founders of Solvanic to scale the technology into industry and maximize their climate impacts. 'To deliver on our ambitious low carbon intensity LNG goals, we need to capture carbon dioxide emissions from both our natural gas pretreatment and cogeneration facilities,' said Nick Flores, Chief Executive Officer, Coastal Bend LNG. 'For post-combustion capture on our onsite cogeneration facilities, we need a step change in carbon capture efficiency. We're highly encouraged by Solvanic's preliminary techno-economics and are keen to accelerate their technology readiness with this FEED study.' 'We have demonstrated our EMAR solution to Technology Readiness Level 4 with low energetics, high stability, and modular scalability across emission sources,' said Dr. Michael Nitzsche, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Solvanic. He added, 'This FEED study accelerates our techno-economic analyses for gas processing and post-combustion carbon capture with the full engineering support of Coastal Bend LNG and their contractors.' 'We are leveraging over a decade of electrochemical carbon capture research and development at MIT via this option agreement. We appreciate Coastal Bend LNG's confidence in the technology to meet their industrial decarbonization objectives,' said Dr. Michael Massen-Hane, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Solvanic.
