Akbarpur Turns ‘Shravan Dham Bus Stand: CM Yogi Continues Renaming Policy

India.com7 hours ago

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday announced the renaming of 'Akbarpur' bus stand to 'Shravan Dham bus stand' in remembrance of Ramayana's Shravan Kumar and also stated that similarly, the Tanda bus stand will be named after Jairam Verma bus stand in honour of late Jairam Verma.
During a programme in UP's Ambedkar Nagar, CM Yogi pointed to 'Shravan Dham bus stand', and said that the move is a 'tribute to the cultural and mythological legacy of Shravan Kumar from the Ramayana'.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 194 development projects worth Rs 1,184 crore. The event also marked the inauguration of 102 projects and the laying of the foundation stone for 92 schemes.
Without mentioning the name of any political party or their leader, he said, "Some people do not like the development of the state, they only like the development of their own family."
"There are some people who engage in caste politics for their own electoral gains. They divide the society. They dim the enthusiasm and excitement of festivals. The time has come to expose such people," he said, ANI reported.
The Chief Minister emphasized the government's zero-tolerance policy, stating that Uttar Pradesh is now riot-free and crime-free, and warned that anyone threatening the safety of women and businessmen will face severe punishment.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has questioned the representation of PDA communities in the recent recruitment of constables in Uttar Pradesh.
"No government can do recruitments by tweaking the rules. The BJP levels allegations against us, so that questions on the count of PDA and who is snatching their rights are not asked. This is their propaganda. No one can do propaganda better than the BJP," said Yadav, ANI reported.

Himachal BJP chief, MLA booked for attempt to murder in stone-pelting incident

A day after 100 protestors, including BJP state president Rajiv Bindal and Paonta Sahib MLA Sukhram Chaudhary, were booked for defying prohibitory orders and assembling in front of Majra police station in Himachal's Sirmaur, the police have added Section 109 of the BNS (attempt to murder) against the protestors. The section was added after about 10 people, including police personnel, were injured in stone pelting and head constable was injured with sharp edged weapon. 'Section of 109 BNS is added to the FIR registered on June 13, in which 10 people, including police personnel, were injured following an attack with sharp edged weapons and stone pelting,' said Sirmaur additional superintendent of police Yogesh Rolta. The section was added on statement of head constable Sandeep, who had sustained sharp edged weapon injury on the head by the protestors who were moving towards house of accused armed with sharp edged weapons, he said. Atleast 10 people were injured in stone-pelting on Friday evening. The stone-pelting followed protests after a 19-year-old man from Kiratpur village eloped with an 18-year-old woman from different faith in a nearby village under Majra police station limits on June 4. The girl's family had lodged a complaint, but even after 10 days, no action was taken. Hindu organisations and local people have been protesting for the last few days, demanding strict action against the 'abductor'. On Friday, they blocked the Nahan-Paonta highway at Majra, about 25 km from Nahan, for about an hour. On Friday evening, as an angry crowd of protesters began moving towards the eloped man's house, locals from the other side resorted to stone-pelting, which the protesters retaliated. Subsequently, police resorted to lathicharge to bring the situation under control. A 36-hour dharna, led by Bindal in Majra area, ended after on Saturday after the man and woman were traced. 'Invoking attempt to murder section is politically motivated and is highly condemnable. People are being terrorized,' said Bindal addressing a press conference. He added, 'Action be taken against those involved in kidnapping and forcible conversion.' In a statement, BJP former state president and MP Suresh Kashyap said that the administration registering a case against BJP state president Dr Rajiv Bindal, MLA Sukhram Chaudhary, who were peacefully protesting against the kidnapping of a girl in Majra village of Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district, is highly condemnable. 'This incident is a clear proof of increasing hooliganism and administrative repression during the Congress government in the state,' he said. 'The false case registered against BJP leaders and protesters should be withdrawn immediately,' said Kashyap.

Malvan jinx? Ground near Shivaji statue pedestal sinks

Navi Mumbai: Just over a month after the new statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji was inaugurated by CM Devendra Fadnavis at the Rajkot fort in Malvan, Sindhudurg, a portion of the ground around the pedestal was found to have subsided on Saturday, reports Umesh K Parida. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The new 60ft statue was built after the earlier statue collapsed in Aug last year, so this is the second time there has been a problem at the site. As Maharashtra Congress chief Harshwardhan Sapkal claimed the pedestal had developed a big hole and Shiv Sena (UBT) alleged corruption, Sindhudurg collector Anil Patil was quoted as saying by PTI the ground around the pedestal had sunk due to rain but the issue had been rectified. PWD has already carried out repairs. After reports of the ground near the pedestal of the Chhatrapati Shivaji statue at Rajkot fort in Malvan having subsided, the public works department's Sawantwadi division started repair work. Konkan divisional chief engineer Sharad Rajbhoj, who inspected the site on Monday, said the issue was not serious and the statue was intact. The pedestal area had earlier been reclaimed through filling to facilitate work on the new statue after an earlier one collapsed in 2024. Dumping of earth there was followed by concretization work, claimed locals. PWD experts attributed the sinking to the natural phenomenon of soil settlement caused after the first rain. As workers of the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Congress lodged a protest during the visit of the Konkan divisional chief engineer and demanded an inquiry, he said a committee will inquire into the matter and if required, action will be taken against the contractor. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The identity of the contractor is not known. The 60 ft tall (83 ft including the pedestal) statue was designed and installed by veteran sculptor Ram Sutar. The PWD has said that the contracting firm, whose identity is not known, will carry out maintenance of the statue for ten years. The statue, installed at an administrative cost of Rs 31.7 crore, can withstand wind speed of around 200 km per hour. Two IIT-Bombay professors of the structural engineering and metallurgy departments had overseen the structural framework and stability aspects. Windtech, a company based in Sydney, has given the wind tunnel clearance. The previously-installed 28 ft tall statue inaugurated by PM Modi in Dec 2023 collapsed on Aug 26, 2024 due to gusty winds, sparking a political controversy. CM Fadnavis inaugurated the new statue on May 11 this year after performing a puja. State Congress chief Harshwardhan Sapkal alleged on Monday, "It is a sign of poor construction if the pedestal has developed a big hole in one month. The statue inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi fell in just eight months due to huge corruption in carrying out the work."

Supreme Court lawyer body slams ED notice to senior advocate

Representative image (ANI) NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court Advocates on Record Association (SCAORA) on Monday condemned ED's notice to senior advocate Arvind Datar for his legal opinion on allotment of employee stock option plan (ESOPs) granted to Rashmi Saluja, ex-chairperson of Religare Enterprises by Care Health Insurance, which is being probed by the agency. Datar had objected to the summons, saying a legal professional's opinion in connection with a case could not be the subject matter of probe. ED subsequently withdrew the summons. Despite its withdrawal, SCAORA, through president Vipin Nair and general secretary Nikhil Jain, issued a statement on ED's unwarranted action. tnn Probing lawyers for legal opinion undermines rule of law: SCAORA Despite withdrawal of summons, SC Advocates on Record Association (SCAORA) through chief Vipin Nair and general secretary Nikhil Jain issued a statement on ED's unwarranted action, saying it "reflects a disturbing trend of investigative overreach that threatens the independence of legal profession & undermine the very foundation of the rule of law". "To summon a senior member of the Bar for discharging his professional responsibility is a misuse of authority and an affront to sanctity of role of advocates. When agencies resort to coercive measures against advocates merely for giving legal opinions, they don't just target individuals, they strike at the institutional structure that ensures justice," SCAORA said. "If advocates can be subjected to coercive measures for providing legal advice, it would paralyse the functioning of the legal system and erode public confidence in the justice delivery mechanism," it added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 오스템 임플란트 받아가세요 임플란터 더 알아보기 Undo ED had earlier sent a questionnaire to Arvind Datar and former IRDAI chairman J Hari Narayan, asking them whether they knew before giving legal opinion that IRDAI, the insurance regulator, had already rejected the offer of ESOPs to Saluja, who is under investigation for alleged financial irregularities related to Religare. Sources said Saluja was facing a criminal probe for alleged irregularities in Religare and its subsidiary Care Health Insurance. IRDAI has not only cancelled ESOPs granted to her but imposed a penalty of Rs 1 crore for allotment of ESOPs despite IRDAI's disapproval. Saluja has already exercised Rs 40 crore worth of ESOPs before it was cancelled by IRDAI. Datar told ED he could not respond to queries without approval of the client (Religare). However, Religare said it had no objection to ED asking Datar to explain the circumstances.
