Egyptian, Saudi FMs discuss regional implications of escalation between Israel, Iran
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reiterated on Saturday 21/6/2025 called for exerting all political, diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions, declare a ceasefire and resume the diplomatic process to reach a sustainable agreement on Iran's nuclear program.
Abdelatty made his remarks during his meeting with Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan, on the sidelines of the meetings of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, Turkey.
The two officials discussed the implications of the ongoing escalation between Israel and Iran on regional stability.
Abdelatty also praised the strong fraternal ties between Cairo and Riyadh, emphasizing Egypt's commitment to launching the Egyptian-Saudi Supreme Coordination Council and holding the Egyptian-Saudi Investment Forum.
He described the initiatives as a significant and constructive step toward enhancing bilateral economic relations.
Furthermore, the Egyptian Minister highlighted that Cairo prioritizes localizing of industry and technology, stressing the importance of achieving industrial integration between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, most particularly in sectors linked to renewable energy and food security.

The call took place as part of ongoing coordination and consultation between the two nations regarding regional developments. The ministers discussed the rapidly escalating situation in the region, particularly the military tensions between Israel and Iran and the serious threat they pose to regional peace and security. Minister Abdelatty underscored the urgent need for de-escalation and a ceasefire, stressing that political and diplomatic solutions remain the only viable path to prevent a broader conflict that could endanger the stability of the region. Both ministers emphasized the importance of calm, self-restraint, and constructive dialogue to avoid further deterioration. They reaffirmed their rejection of any violations of the UN Charter or international law and underscored the necessity of respecting the sovereignty of states. They also warned of the grave risks of the region descending into greater chaos and instability amid the current tensions. U.S. President Donald Trump stated that American aircraft had conducted heavy airstrikes on several Iranian nuclear sites, including Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. 'A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow,' Trump said. In response, Iran attacked Ben Gurion Airport, the system's biological research center, and alternative command and control centers. Tehran added that it used guided missiles, capable of maneuvering the warhead at the moment of landing, and guiding until the moment of impact, and equipped with highly explosive and destructive warheads of various types. Since the outbreak of the war between Iran and Israel on June 13, Egypt has exerted tremendous diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict in which hundreds of people were killed and thousands were injured. The war started when Israel, which has nuclear weapon and not a member of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), launched missile and drones towards Tehran and killed hundreds of nuclear scientists, military leaders and civilians to prevent Iran from having a nuclear weapon. Israeli missiles and drones have targeted several nuclear facilities in Natanz, Isfahan, Arak and Fordow, causing a minor level of radiation leakage in Natanz as it was reported by the International Atomic Energy Agency. Israel, which is totally backed by the US, seeks to be the only country in the region that has nuclear weapons. In retaliation, Iran fired hundreds hypersonic missiles and drones on Israel, causing severe damage to buildings besides the Weizmann Institute of Science, Haifa refinery, and the Gav-Yam Negev Advanced Technologies Park.
