Google is preparing to introduce its Pixel 10 lineup at the 'Made by Google' event on August 20. The series will include the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Days before the official unveiling, what seems to be promotional materials for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel Watch 4 have surfaced online. Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold: Design (Leaked)
The Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold has been in the spotlight recently, following reports that its sales will start more than a month after its announcement. Despite this delay, the leaked promotional video and images provide a detailed view of the foldable phone. Shared by a reliable leaker, Evan Blass on X, the material shows the device opening to reveal its inner display with a camera cutout. The bezels around the display remain noticeable, and when folded, the device retains a small gap near the hinge, a design aspect similar to the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. This gap is reportedly smaller than the one on Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Google Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel Watch 4: Design (Leaked)
The Google Pixel 10 Pro also appears in the leaks, again in Moonstone. While the video showcases the phone's design, most of its features have already been disclosed in earlier leaks. On the other hand, the Pixel Watch 4 promotional clip also offers a close look at its circular dial, a right-side control knob, and an additional button above it. The strap, which matches the Moonstone theme, is made of rubber.

Another image in the leak hints at a Google AI Pro offer, which would offer free access to the service for buyers of select Pixel phones. The package, priced at $239 (around Rs. 20,915), includes 2 TB of cloud storage.

Reports also suggest that the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Pixel Watch 4, and Pixel Buds 2a will not be available for purchase until October 9, citing supply chain delays. The Google Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL are expected to go on sale earlier, starting August 28, shortly after the launch event.

Apple is all set to introduce its new iPhone 17 lineup at a launch event next month. While the Cupertino-based tech giant has not yet sent invites for its biggest launch event of the year, it usually follows a pattern of unveiling new iPhones in early September — and this year should be no different. With just a few weeks left before the upcoming iPhone launches, there has been a lot of speculation around the series. The most anticipated models are the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, so let's take a look at all the upgrades Apple is reportedly planning for its costliest devices. If leaks are to be believed, Apple is planning to ditch the titanium frame on the iPhone 17 Pro models this year and instead switch back to an aluminium frame. The new iPhones are likely to have an aluminium frame with the back featuring a half-aluminium, half-glass finish. Apart from helping with durability, the new design would still allow wireless charging thanks to the glass section. Meanwhile, Apple could replace the squarish camera island in favour of a large rectangular camera bump that will house the triple-camera setup (more on this later). The iPhone 17 Pro lineup could also have a new orange colour option — one of the more vibrant shades offered by Apple — a sharp departure from the muted colour options we have seen in the past. Apart from that, there could be four other available colours: black, white, grey, and dark blue. Apple could continue to offer the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max in 6.3-inch and 6.8-inch sizes. The Cupertino-based tech giant might also finally offer an anti-reflective display coating similar to Samsung's Galaxy devices — though this leak should be taken with a pinch of salt for now. The Pro models could also see some changes to the Dynamic Island, which might be made slightly smaller. However, they could lose their exclusivity over the ProMotion technology, with leaks suggesting that Apple may expand it to all four iPhone models this year. The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max could run on the new A19 Pro silicon from Apple, based on TSMC's new 3nm process technology. There could also be a big boost in RAM, with leaks suggesting the Pro variants may offer 12GB of RAM — up from the 8GB seen in all four iPhone 16 models last year. The upgrade would help improve the performance of Apple Intelligence features along with other multitasking tasks. Apple could also introduce a vapour chamber cooling system to help with heat dissipation and prevent thermal throttling in the iPhone 17 Pro series. The biggest upgrade for the iPhone 17 Pro Max could be in the battery department, with the phone rumoured to come with a 5,000mAh battery compared to the 4,676mAh unit seen in the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Meanwhile, both Pro models could, for the first time, get the ability to reverse wireless charge at 7.5W. They are also expected to support 45W wired fast charging and 25W wireless charging, even with third-party chargers. All the new iPhone 17 series models are expected to come with an improved 24MP front-facing camera, up from the 12MP shooter on the last generation. The sensor is expected to improve image quality while also allowing images to be cropped without quality loss. Meanwhile, the telephoto lens is also expected to be upgraded to 48MP from the 12MP shooter on the iPhone 16 models. With this change, the iPhone 17 Pro models would have three 48MP cameras — the wide and ultra-wide lenses are already at that resolution. The Pro models could also support recording up to 8K video. Apple might also add dual-video recording, a feature common in many Android phones, allowing users to record from both the front and rear cameras simultaneously.

How artificial intelligence is tackling mathematical problem-solving

The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is arguably the leading mathematical problem-solving competition. Every year, high school students from around the world attempt six problems over the span of three hours. Students whose scores cross a threshold, roughly corresponding to solving five of the six problems, obtain Gold medals, with Silver and Bronze medals for those crossing other thresholds. The problems do not require advanced mathematical knowledge, but instead test for mathematical creativity. They are always new, and it is ensured that no similar problems are online or in the literature. The AI gold medallist IMO 2025 had some unusual participants. Even before the Olympiad closed, OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, announced that an experimental reasoning model of theirs had answered the Olympiad at the Gold medal level, following the same time limits as the human participants. Remarkably, this was not a model specifically trained or designed for the IMO, but a general-purpose reasoning model with reasoning powers good enough for an IMO Gold. The OpenAI announcement raised some issues. Many felt that announcing an AI result while the IMO had not concluded overshadowed the achievements of the human participants. Also, the Gold medal score was graded and given by former IMO medalists hired by OpenAI, and some disputed whether the grading was correct. However, a couple of days later, another announcement came. Google-DeepMind attempted the IMO officially, with an advanced version of Gemini Deep Think. Three days after the Olympiad, with the permission of the IMO organisers, they announced that they had obtained a score at the level of a Gold medal. The IMO president Prof. Gregor Dolinar stated, 'We can confirm that Google DeepMind has reached the much-desired milestone, earning 35 out of a possible 42 points — a gold medal score. Their solutions were astonishing in many respects. IMO graders found them to be clear, precise and most of them easy to follow.' Stages of development Even as it became a popular sensation, ChatGPT was infamous both for hallucinations (making up facts) and for simple arithmetic mistakes. Both these would make solving even modest mathematical problems mostly impossible. The first advance that greatly reduced these errors, which came a few months after the launch of ChatGPT, was the use of so-called agents. Specifically, models were now able to use web searches to gather accurate information, and Python interpreters to run programs to perform calculations and check reasoning using numerical experiments. These made the models dramatically more accurate, and good enough to solve moderately hard mathematical problems. However, as a single error in a mathematical solution makes the solution invalid, these were not yet accurate enough to reach IMO (or research) level. Greater accuracy can be obtained by pairing language models with formal proof systems such as the Lean prover — a computer software that can understand and check proofs. Indeed, for IMO 2024 such a system from Google-DeepMind called AlphaProof obtained a silver medal score (but it ran for two days). Finally, a breakthrough came with the so-called reasoning models, such as o3 from OpenAI and Google-DeepMind's Gemini-2.5-pro. These models are perhaps better described as internal monologue models. Before answering a complex question, they generate a monologue considering approaches, carrying them out, revisiting their proposed solutions, sometimes dithering and starting all over again, before finally giving a solution with which they are satisfied. It were such models, with some additional advances, that got Olympiad Gold medal scores. Analogical reasoning and combining ingredients from different sources gives language models some originality, but probably not enough for hard and novel problems. However, verification either through the internal consistency of reasoning models or, better still, checking by the Lean prover, allows training by trying a large number of things and seeing what works, in the same way that AI systems became chess champions starting with just the rules. Such reinforcement learning has allowed recent models to go beyond training data by creating their own synthetic data. The implications Olympiad problems, for both humans and AIs, are not ends in themselves but tests of mathematical problem-solving ability. There are other aspects of research besides problem-solving. Growing anecdotal experiences suggest that AI systems have excellent capabilities in many of these too, such as suggesting approaches and related problems. However, the crucial difference between problem-solving and research/development is scale. Research involves working for months or years without errors creeping in, and without wandering off in fruitless directions. As mentioned earlier, coupling models with the Lean prover can prevent errors. Indications are that it is only a matter of time before this is successful. In the meantime, these models can act as powerful collaborators with human researchers, greatly accelerating research and development in all areas involving mathematics. Google could follow Apple's path by ditching the physical SIM slot for eSIM only support with its new Pixel 10 series. We saw the iPhone 14 launch without traditional SIM support and only work through eSIM and it seems Google could have a similar plan for the Pixel 10 models, at least in some countries. eSIM has surely proven to be more effective and safe than regular SIM usage but the market is still very limited for its support, which explains why Apple and Google have kept its compatibility to select regions. SIM-Free Pixel 10 Launching Soon? The details about this rumour have come via Evan Blass, also known as EvLeaks. He shared a post on X where it says, the Pixel 10, 10 Pro and the 10 Pro XL will not have regular SIM tray, instead support eSIM connectivity. It is intriguing to see Blass share the details, and also points out that the Pixel 10 Pro Fold model will have both the SIM options, which has seemingly been covered via multiple design leaks of the new Pixel foldable. He is quick to mention that Google might keep the eSIM models limited to the US market, which is what Apple has done with its iPhones in the last few years in its home market. We'll have to wait for over a week to see what Google actually plans to offer and if it does make two different versions of its Pixel 10 models this year. Google is likely to persist with regular Pixel 10 variants in markets like India, Europe and other countries for a few more years. Google Pixel 10 series is launching in New York on August 20 and we expect the company to bring four new Pixel models including the Pixel 10 Pro Fold version.
