Historic 1948 Ferrari 166 Spyder Corsa Set for Broad Arrow Auctions
An extraordinarily rare 1948 Ferrari 166 Spyder Corsa, considered among the most historically significant and original examples in existence, will soon cross the auction block at the prestigious Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este.
Bearing chassis number 004 C, this Spyder Corsa is one of Ferrari's earliest customer competition cars. The Ansaloni-bodied model retains its original components, including the handmade aluminum bodywork, chassis, 2.0-liter Colombo V12 engine, and rare five-speed racing transmission. Marque expert Marcel Massini and Ferrari's Classiche certification confirm its unmatched originality.
Chassis 004 C was initially delivered to Italian aristocrat and amateur racer Soave Besana in March 1948. Soon after delivery, it entered the renowned Targa Florio, finishing sixth overall. The car also competed in other iconic events including the 1948 and 1949 Mille Miglia, as well as numerous Formula Two races and hill climbs throughout Europe.
After its competitive years concluded, 004 C eventually made its way to France, remaining largely unused until American automotive historian Stan Nowak discovered it in the mid-1960s. It was soon acquired by prominent collector Henry Austin Clark Jr., who meticulously restored it. Remarkably, the Ferrari remained within the Clark family for 50 years—from 1965 until 2015—achieving numerous awards and accolades, including a podium finish at the 2004 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance and multiple Cavallino Classic honors.
Never before offered publicly, this iconic Ferrari has consistently captivated enthusiasts for its purity and historic significance. Auction house RM Sotheby's estimates its value between €5.5 million and €7.5 million, reflecting its exceptional provenance and rarity.
As one of only two 166 Spyder Corsas initially purchased by the Besana brothers, and among the few surviving models from Ferrari's foundational years, chassis number 004 C provides collectors with an unprecedented opportunity to own a piece of automotive history. Its forthcoming auction at Villa d'Este will surely draw significant interest from international collectors eager to acquire a car emblematic of Ferrari's earliest racing endeavors.

Ferrari shares dip 12% in biggest decline since 2016 listing
Ferrari shares fell more than 12% on Thursday, the biggest single-day drop since the automaker was first publicly listed on stock exchanges in New York and Milan in 2016, Reuters reports. Yet unlike some automakers, Ferrari is maintaining its financial guidance amid uncertainty over the Trump Administration's tariffs. Citi analysts cited concerns that Ferrari will be able to maintain its profitability momentum in the second half of 2025 amid slowing sales and stagnating transaction prices. In its most recent earnings call, Ferrari said it was more confident in its previous 2025 guidance-which estimates gross earning of just over $3 billion-and reported a 4% increase in net revenue in the second quarter. Ferrari also said in the earnings call that it would remove a 10% price increase on new cars sold in the United States that's been in place since April, following a new trade deal that sets tariffs on cars imported from the European Union at 15%, down from the 27.5% tariff previously imposed by the Trump Administration. According to Reuters, Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna said in a media call that almost all cars the automaker sold in the U.S. during the second quarter were shipped before the 27.5% tariff was introduced, so the 10% price increase wasn't applied to them. That's the advantage of being a low-volume automaker with a backlog of orders (Vigna reportedly said Ferrari's current order book extends into 2027). Ferrari is also reportedly still on track to deliver its first all-electric car. Vigna said during the call that he had driven the first electric model, and that it would be shown to analysts in October, according to Reuters. A public debut is expected in spring 2026, with customer deliveries starting later in the year. However, this first EV may be a unique item for a while. Ferrari was reportedly planning to unveil a second EV in late 2026, but has pushed that back to 2028 due to low enthusiasm among its customers. Similar issues have been cited by rivals Lamborghini and Maserati, with the latter completely canceling an electric version of its MC20 supercar due to the lack of takers. Max Verstappen commits future to Red Bull for 2026 F1 season
Max Verstappen has ended speculation over his short-term future by insisting he will stay at Red Bull for the 2026 F1 season. Four-time F1 world champion Verstappen, who has a £50m-a-deal until the end of the 2028 season, has been strongly linked with Mercedes in recent months ahead of a new set of F1 regulations next year, with the Silver Arrows the rumoured frontrunners. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has previously declared his interest in signing one of the sport's generational talents. Verstappen has also only won two races this year in a car which is the fourth-quickest on the grid and, as detailed by The Independent on Tuesday, the Dutchman has an exit clause allowing him to leave if he is lower than third in the drivers' standings by the summer break. Yet after Christian Horner was dismissed as team principal three weeks ago, and with Verstappen now guaranteed to be third after this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix, the 27-year-old has now put to bed all speculation ahead of round 14 in Budapest. 'I'm discussing with the team already the plans, the things that we want to change for next year, so that means that I'm also staying with the team for next year,' Verstappen said on Thursday. "The thing is always that people are waffling so much throughout the whole season, while the only one that actually can or should speak is not speaking. That's me. "And I do that on purpose because it makes no sense to start throwing things around, and actually that should be the same for everyone. "Some people just like to stir the pot, some people just like to create drama. But, for me, it's always been quite clear, and also for next year.' As a result, George Russell looks set to stay at Mercedes, alongside 18-year-old Italian rookie Kimi Antonelli. Both are currently out of contract at the end of the season. The length of any new contracts for both drivers, whether it be a one-year extension or a multi-year contract, remains to be seen. Wolff admitted last week in Spa that it was his 'absolute priority' to tie down both Russell and Antonelli for 2026. Meanwhile, Verstappen will be eyeing his first podium in four races at Budapest this weekend, the last round before the summer break.

Ferrari F1 boss Fred Vasseur signs new contract despite winless run
Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has signed a new long-term contract despite the team's winless run in Formula 1 this season. Indeed, the last grand prix won by the Scuderia came in Mexico City last year when Carlos Sainz finished top of the podium, before he was replaced with Lewis Hamilton for the current campaign. Neither Hamilton nor teammate Charles Leclerc has secured a win in 2025 and both have struggled to exert the maximum performance out of their cars. Despite this poor run of form, Ferrari are happy with Vasseur's leadership and have rewarded the 57-year-old with a new contract to keep him at the helm for the coming seasons. The famous F1 team released a statement confirming Vasseur's contract extension which reads: 'Scuderia Ferrari HP is pleased to announce that it has extended, with a multiple-year contract, its agreement with Fred Vasseur, who will continue as Team Principal of Scuderia Ferrari HP for the coming Formula 1 seasons. 'Fred joined the Scuderia at the beginning of 2023, bringing with him extensive motorsport experience and a proven ability to develop talent and build competitive teams across all levels of racing. Since then, he has laid a solid foundation with the ambition of returning Ferrari to the top of Formula 1. 'Renewing Fred's contract reflects Ferrari's determination to build on the foundations laid so far. His ability to lead under pressure, embrace innovation, and pursue performance aligns fully with Ferrari's values and long-term ambitions. Under Fred's leadership, Scuderia Ferrari HP is united, focused, and committed to continuous improvement. 'The trust placed in him reflects the team's confidence in its strategic direction and reinforces a shared determination to deliver the results that Ferrari's fans, drivers, and team members expect and deserve.' The Formula 1 season continues this weekend with the Hungarian Grand Prix where Hamilton, an eight-time winner here, will look to turn his season around. Vasseur added: 'I'm grateful for the trust Ferrari continues to place in me. This renewal is not just a confirmation — it's a challenge to keep progressing, to stay focused, and to deliver. 'Over the past 30 months, we've laid strong foundations, and now we must build on them with consistency and determination. 'We know what's expected, and we're all fully committed to meeting those expectations and taking the next step forward together.
