U18 Craven Week day three results: Wins for SWD, Free State

South Western Districts continued their impressive run at this year's Craven Week for U18 teams in Middelburg, while the Western Province XV also extended their winning record on the third day of the tournament.
Free State, after falling to SWD by a point on day one, bounced back with a fine win on Wednesday against the Blue Bulls.
After edging Free State 35-34 in their first fixture of the tournament, SWD dominated the clash against the Golden Lions on Wednesday, scoring eight tries in a resounding 54-22 victory. Christiaan Vorster and Jacobus de Villiers scored two tries apiece for the Eagles.
Earlier in the day, Limpopo completed an incredible comeback against the Griffons, after trailing 19-0 in the first quarter. Hooker Ziahn Lombaard scored a hat-trick while fullback Ryno Mienie slotted seven conversions to steer their team to an unlikely 49-44 victory.
Fresh off their 52-6 win over the Griffons, the WP XV racked up a further 45 points and seven tries against the Pumas, with lock Gershom Pieters and replacement forward Caleb Koeberg grabbing a brace apiece.
Free State scored seven tries in a 52-33 victory against the Blue Bulls. Fullback Lamla Mgedezi and No 13 Ethan Adams starred for the winners, scoring three and two tries respectively, while centre Thabiso Simelane claimed a hat-trick for the losing side.
On Thursday, the main match will be played between Western Province and the Sharks.

In an EWN sports feature in 2013, the baby-faced star – then just 20 years old – spoke about his goals as a rising rugby player. The winger had just signed for the Stormers – a 'dream come true' – and, despite his small frame, was hoping to make a significant impact on the pitch. Western Province coach John Dobson lauded the pint-sized player as 'outstanding,' while Stormers coach Allister Coetzee called him a 'gifted player.' Craven Week: WP hold off SWD to be crowned champions
Western Province powered past South Western Districts to win the final match of the U18 Craven Week in Middelburg while the Blue Bulls, Golden Lions and Free State finished their respective campaigns on a high. The Youth Weeks programme came to an eventful conclusion on Saturday, with all 16 teams featuring in the final round of the U18 Craven Week tournament staged at Hoërskool Middelburg. WP finished the week with three victories, while the Bulls, Boland, Lions, Leopards, Free State, Griquas and Pumas were among the winners on the final day of the competition. The battle between WP and SWD was fiercely contested, with the Eagles drawing first blood. Western Province responded with tries from fullback Jaden Ocks, captain Josh Neill – who was named the Player of the Tournament – and No 8 Quintin Potgieter to take a 17-9 lead into the break. SWD clawed their way back after WP were shown a yellow card early in the second half. Eagles prop Kai Pratt scored during this period, while flyhalf Virgil Pockpas added the conversion to reduce the deficit to 13 points. The Eagles scored again right before full time, but WP managed to secure a 27-21 victory and yet another unbeaten campaign. Earlier in the day, the Bulls thrashed Eastern Province 76-24, with wing Thabiso Simelane, centre Dylan Stumke and flanker Elwin Jansen Van Vuuren scoring two tries apiece. Simelane went on to finish the tournament as the leading try-scorer (six). The Lions dominated the first half of their match against the Western Province XV, before the Cape side hit back in the second stanza. After leading 17-7 at the break, the Gauteng outfit hung on for a 27-26 victory. Free State controlled the contest against the Sharks, who struggled with their discipline. Flyhalf Darius Erwee kept the scoreboard ticking, while hooker Marinus Oosthuizen scored two tries to steer the boys from Bloemfontein to a convincing 34-12 win. In other fixtures, the Leopards produced one of the most dominant performances of the day, scoring eight tries in a 54-7 rout of the Limpopo Blue Bulls, Griquas edged the Valke 26-19, and the Pumas were too good for Border, winning by 48-12. Watch: What to expect on the final day of the 2025 FNB U18 Craven Week The action at this year's FNB U18 Craven Week, being played at Middelburg Hoërskool (Middies) in Mpumalanga, is set to conclude tomorrow. As is custom, matches on day five of the tournament will be played on more than one field. The unofficial final will be played on the A-field at 12:45. Here's what you can expect: Tries galore The first four days saw big scores fuelled by tries galore. From superb counterattacks to darting runs, the showpiece event showcased why South African schoolboy rugby is raved about. The weapon of choice has been lethal rolling mauls from lineout ball, often culminating in hookers dotting down for five-pointers. Think of Limpopo's Ziahn Lombaard (Hoërskool Pietersburg), who scored a hat-trick of tries off the back of a maul on day three, or Leopards hooker Juan van Rhyn of Hoërskool Lichtenburg, who scored from a rolling maul that cruised over the tryline with less than 120 seconds on the clock in match two of day four. Let's not forget the try-of-the-tournament contenders that include Middies and Pumas fullback Katlego Baloyi's five-pointer on day one and Valke winger Dihan Crause from Hoërskool Transvalia's second try of the match on day two. Prefer a prop in full flight? WP frontrower Jordan Jooste (Paarl Boys' High School) would've made you proud yesterday. WP's flyhalf, Ethan van Biljon of Stellenberg High School, comes to mind as he maintained a perfect kicking record during yesterday's bruising of the Sharks. Ethan slotted six conversions, three of them near the touchline, as well as a penalty, as he racked up 15 of his side's 45 points yesterday. Another Province kicker, WP XV centre Iwan Jordaan (Paarl Boys' High School) was also in fine kicking form against the Pumas on day three. He slotted three conversions, one being a difficult kick from the touchline, in four attempts. Free State flyhalf Darius Erwee (Grey College) was another who showed the power in his boot, kicking over a long-range effort in his side's thumping of the Bulls on Wednesday. More Muller magic? WP centre Markus Muller of Paarl Gimnasium will surely want to continue his try-scoring form, which has made him a much-talked-about topic heading into this year's tournament. Will he help his side to victory against the SWD Eagles? There's no reason he shouldn't. A fellow SA Schools hopeful, Sharks fullback Zekhethelo Siyaya (Westville Boys' High School), would want to shine in his final match of the tournament.
