'Catalyst for global progress': Nvidia CEO praises China's AI efforts; highlights DeepSeek's role
"China's open-source AI is a catalyst for global progress, giving every country and industry a chance to join the AI revolution," he said, highlighting the efforts of Chinese AI startup DeepSeek, AFP reported.
"AI is transforming every industry, from scientific research and healthcare to energy, transportation and logistics," he added.
Huang commended China's 'super-fast' innovation, driven by its researchers, developers, and entrepreneurs, and emphasized the country's growing role in global AI development.
The expo is part of Beijing's push to position itself as a champion of free trade, in contrast to rising trade tensions and tariffs under US President Donald Trump.
Huang's comments came as Nvidia announced the resumption of sales of its H20 AI chips to China. These chips were specially designed to meet US export restrictions, but deliveries had been delayed after Washington tightened licensing rules in April.
Nvidia said on Tuesday that the US government had assured the company licenses would now be granted.
"The US government has assured Nvidia that licenses will be granted, and Nvidia hopes to start deliveries soon," the company said, confirming that it was "filing applications to sell the Nvidia H20 GPU again".
The announcement lifted tech markets globally, with the Nasdaq hitting a new record and Hong Kong tech stocks also rallying. Huang's appearance also came just as Nvidia briefly became the world's first $4 trillion company by market value earlier this week.
This development positively influenced technology stocks globally, with the Nasdaq reaching new heights and Hong Kong markets showing significant gains.

How could Sona BLW's JV with JNT unlock ₹1,670 crore TAM? Stock up 3%
Sona BLW Precision Forgings shares rose 3.4 per cent, logging an intraday high at ₹496.3 per share on BSE. At 12 PM, Sona BLW share price was trading 1.72 per cent higher at ₹258.8 per share on the BSE. In comparison, the BSE Sensex was up 0.36 per cent at 82,052.49. The company's market capitalisation stood at ₹30,339.98 crore. The 52-week high of the stock was at ₹767.8 per share, and the 52-week low of the stock was at ₹379.8 per share. Why were Sona BLW Precisions shares buzzing in trade? The buying interest on the counter came after the company signed a binding term sheet with Jinnaite Machinery (JNT) to establish a joint venture (JV) company in China. According to the filing, the JV will manufacture and supply driveline systems and components to automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in China and globally. Sona Comstar will invest $12 million, while JNT will contribute $8 million in assets and business to the joint venture in the first phase. The JV is expected to commence operations in the second half of the current financial year, marking a significant milestone in Sona Comstar's expansion into the Chinese EV market. The driveline manufacturing operations in China align with the company's strategy to expand its presence in Asian markets, particularly in India, China, Japan, and South Korea, while also working to increase its market share further in North America and Europe, according to Sona BLW Domestic brokerage JM Financial Institutional Securities believes this JV will represent a significant growth opportunity for Sona BLW as the company would not have entered this venture without a strong anchor customer (mostly BYD). Based on the brokerages estimates, the JV could unlock a total addressable market (TAM) of ₹1,670 crore (48 per cent of Sona's FY25 revenue), with potential upside if the JV onboards other global and domestic EV players like Tesla in China. The brokerage has maintained a 'Buy' on the stock with a target of ₹630 per share. About Sona BLW Sona Comstar is a global supplier of driveline solutions for various automotive segments and is strategically expanding its presence in the faster-growing Asian markets. The company is the largest supplier of differential assemblies for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in North America and ranks among the top suppliers in Europe. About Jinnaite Machinery Co The company operates a world-class foundry utilising patented technology to manufacture complex castings and molds. JNT holds 63 patents and 36 proprietary technologies, and it is actively engaged in the formulation of Chinese national standards, having contributed to the development of five national standards. Its strong customer base in the automotive, off-highway, and railway sectors, including leading Chinese automotive OEMs, as well as those from North America, Europe, and Japan, further underscores its expertise and capabilities.

Watch: Jack Ma is trending again, and this time it's for riding a bicycle
A short video clip has reignited global curiosity about Jack Ma . The Alibaba co-founder, once among the most prominent business figures in China, was filmed riding a bicycle through the quiet streets of Hangzhou. The video, shared on 17 July by X user Dott. Orikron, shows Ma dressed in sportswear, pedalling without any security around him. 'Jack Ma was spotted riding his bicycle in Hangzhou,' Orikron wrote. 'Although he has retained his position as CEO, his story reminds me of China's Last Emperor, who was pardoned after the revolution (despite collaborating with the Japanese) and became a simple gardener.' She wrote, 'I came to West Lake with my friends and ran into Jack Ma! He was wearing sportswear!' She also noted that Ma confirmed his identity when asked. Live Events The relaxed scene drew a range of responses. Some admired his laid-back approach. Others raised concerns. One user on X questioned, 'Dangerous to be biking at night.' Another said, 'Unless he can give an interview and have people vouch he is alive, have to assume bad things happened to him.' The buzz reflects not just curiosity but also deep public memory of Ma's long silence. What happened to Jack Ma? Jack Ma has been mostly out of sight since October 2020. That was when he made a public speech criticising China's financial regulators. He compared state-owned banks to pawn shops and questioned the country's financial systems. According to a report in The Wall Street Journal, his comments did not sit well with President Xi Jinping. The response was swift and severe. Chinese authorities suspended Ant Group 's $37 billion IPO, a move that shocked markets globally. An investigation into Alibaba followed, wiping more than $100 billion off its market valuation. Ma, once omnipresent in business forums and media, simply vanished. His sudden withdrawal triggered months of speculation, conspiracy theories and international headlines. Public sightings were rare, often unconfirmed. Many assumed he was under house arrest or had been forced into silence. Earlier this year, Ma was seen at a high-level meeting with President Xi and other business leaders. It was the first clear sign that relations between China's tech sector and the government might be warming. His recent cycling trip, while personal and informal, could be part of that same slow re-entry into public life. As of July 2025, Ma's net worth stands at $26.5 billion, according to Forbes. Though he stepped down as Alibaba's executive chairman in 2019, he remains one of the company's largest shareholders. From rejection to riches Jack Ma's story isn't typical of China's business elite. Before founding Alibaba, he faced rejection after rejection. He applied for dozens of jobs, including one at KFC. Of 24 applicants, he was the only one not hired. Eventually, he became an English teacher. He taught himself English by offering free city tours to tourists in Hangzhou. For nine years, he cycled 70 miles every morning to the Shangri-La Hotel just to practise the language. His first ventures failed. Haibo Translation Agency didn't last. China Pages didn't succeed either. But in 1999, he gathered 17 friends in his apartment and pitched a new idea: Alibaba. With no funding and no tech background, Ma focused on customer experience. His motto was simple: customers first, employees second, investors last. The idea was mocked. But by 2000, he secured a $20 million investment from SoftBank, led by Masayoshi Son. That changed everything. Alibaba went on to reshape China's e-commerce and digital payment landscape. By 2022, the company became Asia's first to cross a $500 billion market valuation. Ma, once written off as unqualified and unworthy, became one of the richest people in the world.

Perplexity CEO says his AI browser will replace these two white collar jobs in every company
Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Nvidia-backed startup Perplexity, has unveiled ambitions for the company's latest product, an AI-powered browser named Comet. Speaking on a recent episode of The Verge's 'Decoder' podcast, Srinivas claimed the tool is designed to automate substantial portions of work traditionally handled by recruiters and executive assistants, and can quickly replace them. Describing Comet as more than just a browser, Srinivas explained it's built to act as an intelligent assistant capable of handling complex workplace tasks autonomously. 'A recruiter's work worth one week is just one prompt: sourcing and reach outs,' he said in the podcast. Explaining the features of the browser, Srinivas shared that Comet's AI agent integrates directly with tools like Gmail, LinkedIn, and Google Calendar, allowing it to perform end-to-end recruiting tasks. It can create candidate shortlists, scrape contact information, and send out customised outreach emails. Further, he highlighted how Comet could take over many routine duties of an executive assistant, from email management to scheduling. Speaking to Business Insider, he explained, 'You want it to keep following up, keep a track of their responses.' He added that the AI is capable of updating spreadsheets, tracking communication status, handling follow-ups, resolving calendar conflicts, scheduling meetings, and even preparing briefings ahead of time. 'It can update the Google Sheets, mark the status as responded or in progress, and follow up with those candidates, sync with my Google calendar, and then resolve conflicts and schedule a chat, and then push me a brief ahead of the meeting,' he said. Srinivas envisions Comet evolving into a full-fledged 'AI operating system' for knowledge workers, capable of running in the background and autonomously executing a wide range of professional tasks. Srinivas revealed that Comet is still available to premium users and is invite-only. He believes that users will pay for AI that can perform quality work. 'At scale, if it helps you to make a few million bucks, does it not make sense to spend $2,000 for that prompt? It does, right?' he said.
