LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. - A 70-year-old woman died Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a road in Libertyville, authorities said.
The backstory
The crash happened around 8:25 p.m. at the intersection of Illinois Route 176 and Fourth Avenue, according to the Libertyville Police Department. Officials said a Honda Pilot was traveling westbound on Route 176 when it hit the woman near the intersection.
Officers arrived to find the woman lying in the roadway and began life-saving efforts. She was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center with life-threatening injuries but was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the Honda Pilot remained at the scene and was uninjured, police said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Libertyville Police Department, the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team, the Lake County Coroner's Office, and the Lake County State's Attorney's Office.
The woman's identity has not yet been released, pending notification of her family. Authorities said additional details would be provided as the investigation continues.

A Niles man remains in Lake County Jail after he allegedly shot a man at a Lake Forest dog park on Sunday, authorities said. Matthew Moy, 35, of Niles, was charged with one count of aggravated battery with a firearm (a Class X Felony) after he allegedly shot a 23-year-old man in the abdomen after a dispute on Sunday. Moy appeared before Lake County Judge Michael Nerheim on Wednesday, who agreed to the state's request to keep Moy in custody. Authorities stated Moy and the victim began arguing Sunday afternoon at Lake Forest's Prairie Wolf Off-Leash Dog Area. Then the dispute carried over to the parking lot, where Moy pulled out a gun and shot the other person. The victim's mother recorded the incident on video. A state's attorney spokeswoman said the dispute was allegedly over a dog. 'This appears to be an isolated incident between two individuals,' Lake County Forest Preserves Police Chief Ron Davis said in a statement. 'Officers responded quickly, secured the area, and safely took the suspect into custody. I'm proud of their professionalism and swift action.' The unidentified victim was rushed to Libertyville's Advocate Condell Medical Center, where he was initially listed in critical condition. By Wednesday afternoon, he was in stable condition according to a Lake County Forest Preserves spokeswoman. Prosecutors argued Moy should remain in custody because his alleged actions show he is a threat to the community, even though he possessed a valid firearms identification and a concealed carry permit. 'Our thoughts are with the victim and his family,' Lake County State's Attorney Eric Rinehart said in a statement. 'We are satisfied that this offender has been detained without the ability to use cash. This case shows that even minor arguments can turn potentially lethal when firearms are easily accessible. Our office will continue all efforts to keep firearms out of the hands of dangerous people through our Violent Crimes Unit, Gun Violence Prevention Initiative, and other programs.' Santa Rosa boy struck by vehicle remains in critical condition
(KRON) — A 14-year-old Santa Rosa boy remains hospitalized in critical condition after he was struck by a vehicle on Saturday night, according to authorities. The Santa Rosa Police Department received several 911 calls at 10:20 p.m. reporting the pedestrian-vehicle collision near the intersection of College Avenue and Beaver Street. The driver of the involved Honda Pilot also called dispatch, according to SRPD, and told police that the boy she struck was still down in the roadway. Arriving police officers and Santa Rosa Fire Department paramedics found the boy unconscious in the westbound lanes of College Avenue, authorities said. The boy was rushed to a local trauma center with life-threatening injuries. The driver was cooperative with the investigation and police said there was 'no indication that she was impaired or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.' She told the crash investigators that she was traveling westbound on College Ave. and struck the boy who entered the roadway from the north side of the street, SRPD said. It is unknown at this time if the boy was inside a crosswalk at the time of the crash. Investigators said the boy was possibly riding a skateboard and was with another child. Crash investigators said they are looking for surveillance cameras that were recording in the area. Grayslake crash leaves 12-year-old seriously injured, 5 others hurt
A 12-year-old girl was transported to a Chicago hospital following a Sunday afternoon crash in Grayslake that also injured five other people, according to police. The girl was ejected from an SUV after the vehicle collided with a 2025 Chevrolet Corvette. The collision happened at 3:24 p.m. west of the intersection of Peterson and Midlothian roads, according to Grayslake police. Police said the 2020 GMC SUV was westbound on Peterson Road when it attempted to make a left turn. The Corvette, which was eastbound on Peterson, collided with the SUV, police said. The SUV rolled, ejecting the girl, who was in the backseat, police said. All six people involved were taken to area hospitals, and the child was later transferred to Lurie Children's Hospital, police said. Police closed Peterson Road while officers investigated. The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team is also investigating. Grayslake police did not respond Tuesday to requests for more information.
