Grayslake crash leaves 12-year-old seriously injured, 5 others hurt

A 12-year-old girl was transported to a Chicago hospital following a Sunday afternoon crash in Grayslake that also injured five other people, according to police. The girl was ejected from an SUV after the vehicle collided with a 2025 Chevrolet Corvette. The collision happened at 3:24 p.m. west of the intersection of Peterson and Midlothian roads, according to Grayslake police. Police said the 2020 GMC SUV was westbound on Peterson Road when it attempted to make a left turn. The Corvette, which was eastbound on Peterson, collided with the SUV, police said. The SUV rolled, ejecting the girl, who was in the backseat, police said. All six people involved were taken to area hospitals, and the child was later transferred to Lurie Children's Hospital, police said. Police closed Peterson Road while officers investigated. The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team is also investigating. Grayslake police did not respond Tuesday to requests for more information.

Three seriously injured in Lake Forest during early Tuesday morning car crash on Route 41

Police were called to the scene at 1:46 a.m. Tuesday when a silver Mazda 3 was heading northbound on Route 41 at what authorities thought was a high rate of speed when it swerved off the road to the right, leading the vehicle to roll over at least once, according to Lake Forest police. 'The car flipped at least once,' Deputy Police Chief Kevin Zelk added. A passenger from the car was ejected from the vehicle, and the other two victims had to be removed by the Lake Forest Fire Department, authorities said. Zelk did not identify the victims, but noted they were all from Lake County. They were all transported to Libertyville's Advocate Condell Medical Center. 'Nobody is declining, but the injuries were pretty significant,' Zelk said. A hospital spokeswoman did not comment on their status, citing health privacy laws. Alcohol and excessive speed were suspected of being involved in the crash, and charges are pending, but not expected to be filed for several weeks. 'We are investigating whether or not the driver was impaired,' Zelk said. The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team was called in to assist with the investigation, Zelk added. Northbound Route 41 was closed to traffic for several hours early Tuesday due to the investigation, Zelk said. The roadway was completely reopened around 8 a.m.
