Temple University Police rescue several pets from hot car in North Philadelphia
Corinthia Johnson, who is also a neighborhood block captain, noticed seven dogs and a cat inside a parked car on 13th and Jefferson streets on a 90-plus degree day, so she called Temple police for help.
"I was very concerned as I have dogs of my own and I wanted to make sure the dogs were OK," Arashdeep Bawa, a Temple police officer, said.
When officers arrived, they were able to unlock the vehicle and take the animals to ACCT Philly.
On Thursday afternoon, Johnson got the chance to meet and thank the officers who came to the rescue.
"I am so thankful that Temple police showed up," Johnson said.
Johnson said she's grateful for Temple police and all that they do.
"They're my angels, and they always seem to show up," she said. "I appreciate Temple University, I really do."
Some of the dogs and the cat taken to ACCT Philly need to be adopted.
ACCT Philly said a pair of shih tzus need to be adopted together. Their names are Sky and Winter.
The cat, named Sunny, also needs a home. Three dogs were taken to rescues, and two dogs have already been adopted.

Natalbany man arrested, accused of raping child
NATALBANY, La. (WGNO) — A Natalbany man was arrested on July 29 in connection with a child rape investigation. According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, the 12-year-old victim reported that sexual abuse, allegedly perpetrated by 42-year-old Willie Jackson III, went back five years prior and occurred in at least two other states, as well as in Tangipahoa Parish. Teenager is one of two victims killed in Seventh Ward shooting
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a triple shooting in the Seventh Ward that left two victims dead. According to NOPD officers, around 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12, they were alerted of a shooting in the 2100 block of Allen Street. Responding officers arrived to find three people suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers said two men were taken to a hospital for treatment by EMS where one, 37-year-old Brent McDonald was pronounced dead. A third victim, 17-year-old De'Von Franklin, was taken by car but later died from his wounds at 1:30 a.m. Aug. 13. I got bullet holes in my car,' said a Seventh Ward resident. A triple shooting in the Seventh Ward on Tuesday night has left two people, including a 17-year-old, and another person injured. It has also left the neighborhood shaken up. 'They got bullet shots all on the bark of the tree. Got blood all around the corner by me,' said a Seventh Ward resident. One woman says she was woken up by the sound of gunshots. While surveying the damage, she noticed that one bullet went through a neighbor's window. 'So close, so we didn't know where it was. So, we waited a while and came out the door to see what was going on, and nobody was hurt. And then we find all our vehicles, with all these gunshot bullets,' said a nearby neighbor where the shooting occurred. The woman says the city needs to install streetlights and crime cameras to better protect the neighborhood. 'All these lights are off, it's dark. We try to keep the lights on because all these people are homeowners, and we are not going anywhere. But we need a light, and we would love to have a crime camera. And it's 100, 100 block of Allen Street,' said the neighbor. Grandmother accused of kidnapping 7-year-old New Orleans City Councilman Eugene Green, whose district includes the Seventh Ward, hopes the city can stop this cycle of violence. 'There can be no assumptions that anything is acceptable in our city relative to violent crime or property crimes. We can be a city with no crime. It's going to take some time, but the best alternative to crime is people choosing to do something else,' Green said. Green also says resources are available to those who need help through this difficult time. 'Whether it be in terms of trauma recovery, where whether it be in terms of just mental health services, gun violence reduction, come into City Hall and say, I need some help. Take advantage of some of the resources that we've made available to young people and adults,' said Green. As far as lighting goes along the street, the Housing Authority-New Orleans sent a statement: 'The Housing Authority of New Orleans has taken steps to address concerns regarding lighting on and around HANO properties. A comprehensive assessment of lighting across all Hano properties has been completed and is pending a final report. Ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents is our top priority. Hano hired former NOPD police chief Michael Harrison earlier this year to guide how to maintain a safe environment for our residents.' The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will release the identities of the victims after autopsies are done and families are notified. No further details are available at this time.
