After Shubhanshu Shukla, NASA's Anil Menon gears up for Expedition-75
He will be joined by Roscosmos cosmonauts Pyotr Dubrov and Anna Kikina for an eight-month stint aboard the ISS adding to the growing Indian footprint in space.
The trio will launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Once aboard the station, Menon will conduct a range of scientific investigations and technology demonstrations.
Selected by NASA in 2021, Menon graduated with NASA's 23rd astronaut class in 2024. Born and raised in Minneapolis, he brings an impressive mix of skills to the table. He's an emergency medicine physician, mechanical engineer, and colonel in the U.S. Space Force.

Menon also holds a bachelor's degree in neurobiology from Harvard University, a master's in mechanical engineering, and a medical degree from Stanford. He completed residencies in emergency and aerospace medicine at Stanford and the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

Outside of spaceflights and experiments, Menon still practices emergency medicine at Memorial Hermann's Texas Medical Center and teaches at the University of Texas residency program. Before joining NASA, he was SpaceX's first flight surgeon, supporting the historic NASA-SpaceX Demo-2 mission. He also served as crew flight surgeon for multiple ISS missions.
It is the 75th long-duration mission to the ISS, which is currently scheduled to launch in June 2026. The primary purpose of the ISS is to enable long-term exploration of space and provide benefits to people on Earth. Expedition 75 will likely contribute to this by conducting various scientific experiments and research projects.

Delhi Bird Census: Over 160 Bird Species, 21 First Time Sightings Documented
New Delhi: More than 160 bird species including endangered and migratory ones like the greater flamingo and Indian pitta have been recorded across the national capital as part of the Delhi Bird Atlas. The summer phase of the atlas -- a pioneering citizen science initiative supported by Wildlife SOS and the Delhi Forest and Wildlife Department -- reported 21 first-time sightings and saw over 600 checklists uploaded to the eBird platform, surpassing the winter documentation efforts, according to a statement. The project, which divides Delhi into 145 observation zones, is aimed at building a long-term understanding of avian distribution patterns across seasons, officials said. Alongside this documentation drive, Wildlife SOS has intensified its rescue efforts during the scorching summer, saving nearly 500 birds till May 2025. These included raptors and migratory species impacted by extreme heat, electrocution, collisions, and habitat stress. Shyam Sunder Kandpal, Chief Wildlife Warden, said the Delhi Bird Atlas is not just a scientific initiative but a "community-powered effort" to reconnect people with nature and create a data-backed conservation strategy for the capital. The initiative also underscores the growing role of citizens in spotting and reporting injured or distressed birds, often triggering rescue operations. "With Delhi reeling under erratic climate patterns and rising pollution, initiatives like the Bird Atlas become all the more urgent," said Wasim Akram, Director of Special Projects at Wildlife SOS.

The first-glimpse teaser of Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana has inspired awe and wonder among fans, with some hailing it as a new dawn in Indian storytelling. A grand adaptation of the timeless Indian epic, the film, featuring a stellar cast of Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi and others, brings together some of the best technicians from across the world. The film's mammoth budget (₹800 crore approx) covers the cost of assembling a constellation of global artistes. The title reveal video, which released on July 03, 2025, confirmed the presence of several international legends, with Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer being the biggest coup. The makers have described the project as an unprecedented creative communion between the East and the West. Filmed for IMAX, Ramayana is aiming to deliver a visual spectacle high on scale and technically mastery. Set to release in two parts on Diwali 2026 and Diwali 2027 respectively, the film positions itself as a global event, riding the wave of effects-rich crossover blockbusters out of India like RRR and Baahubali. Speaking at the teaser launch in Mumbai, producer Namit Malhotra of Prime Focus Studios reiterated his vision to create a world-class experience. 'My only aspiration is with pride how we take our greatest culture, our greatest part of our history and share it with the world.' One-day workshop on history and computing held
The Department of History at Bengaluru City University (BCU) hosted a one-day workshop on 'History and Computing' on Saturday at the WBC Auditorium for postgraduate students. Inaugurating the event, acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.R. Jalaja emphasised the importance of digital technology in making Indian history accessible to younger generations. She affirmed, 'Necessary steps will be taken to ensure PG students have access to digital resources.' Mahesh, deputy director of the Karnataka State Archives, inaugurated the workshop, stating, 'Digitisation not only preserves historical records but also democratises access, making archival materials available to all.' He demonstrated tools used in digital preservation. P. Jayasimha from the Mythic Society noted, 'Digital tools and AI are opening unprecedented avenues in analyzing and preserving historical data.' The event featured thematic sessions by experts and was conducted by faculty members Dr. Malini, Dr. Purushottama, and Dr. Kantharaju. Prof. Jyothi Venkatesh delivered the introductory address.
