Kerala Revenue official suspended over defamatory remarks against Ahmedabad air crash victim Renjitha
The Kerala government on Friday (June 13, 2025) suspended a Revenue department official on the charge of making defamatory remarks against Renjitha G. Nair, the Malayali nurse who died in the Ahmedabad air crash on Thursday (June 12, 2025).
In a statement, Revenue Minister K. Rajan said that social media posts by A. Pavithran, a junior superintendent attached to the Vellarikundu taluk office in Kasaragod district, were 'mean, spiteful, and cruel.'
He promised immediate disciplinary action.
Consequently, Kasaragod District Collector K. Inbasekar suspended Mr. Pavithran on Mr. Rajan's orders, pending inquiry.
Public outrage
Mr. Pavithran's post about the single mother who died in the mishap while returning to her workplace in London after a brief holiday with her two young daughters and ailing mother caused an outpouring of public outrage, which resonated across the conventional and social media.
A preliminary government inquiry found Mr. Pavithran had slandered Renjitha on casteist lines and also demeaned the latter in prurient terms.
Pavithran later apologises
Health Minister Veena George, who called on Renjitha's mother and children in Pathanamthitta, expressed shock at the condemnable social media posts and promised immediate action. Mr. Pavithran later apologised and withdrew the controversial post.
A senior official stated that the police were likely to book the official on charges of social media abuse under the provisions of the BNS and the IT Act.

Chopper Crash Near Kedarnath: Case Filed Against Private Helicopter Firm
Dehradun: A case has been registered against helicopter service operating firm Aryan Aviation Private Ltd for alleged negligence in connection with the chopper crash near Kedarnath on Sunday which killed all seven people on board, including a two-year-old child and the pilot. The Bell 407 helicopter which crashed due to bad weather in the forests of Gauri Mai Khark between Gaurikund and Triyuginarayan belonged to Aryan Aviation Private Limited. A case has been registered against Aryan Aviation's accountable manager Kaushik Pathak and manager Vikas Tomar at Sonprayag police station under BNS and section 10 of the Aircraft Act 1934, police said. The case was registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by Revenue police Sub Inspector Rajiv Nakholia posted at Phata, a small town located near the Himalayan temple. The complaint states that Aryan Aviation was allotted the first slot from 6 am to 7 am for helicopter operations on June 15, while this accident happened before that at 5:30 am. In addition, despite the sky being cloudy and foggy since morning, the weather conditions were not checked before the helicopter took off. The complaint states that the SOP issued by the DGCA and Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority was ignored while the company managers knew very well that doing so could cause loss of life and property. By doing so, Aryan Aviation Pvt Ltd and its managers showed gross negligence towards their responsibilities, due to which the crash occurred, the complaint added.

The police have served legal notices to the three accused — Ehsan Khan, his wife Husnabano, and daughter Ariba — and seized the licensed revolver along with 25 live cartridges. Further legal action is underway. Police have confirmed that the revolver was legally owned by Ehsan Khan and all appropriate legal proceedings are being carried out.

MANGALURU: In an incident that recently came to light, a woman from Rekya village in Beltangady taluk reported the theft of gold jewellery worth Rs 2.6 lakh from her home. Kusuma, 48, the complainant, stated that she and her husband follow a daily routine of locking their house and placing the key in the cattle shed before heading to work. According to her complaint, she owned approximately 52 grams of gold jewellery, including a chain, bangle, and earrings, which she stored securely in a locked cupboard inside their house. The key to the cupboard was usually kept in a corner of the house. She last saw the jewellery on May 23. However, on June 14 around 6.30 pm, while preparing to visit a temple, the couple looked for the jewellery, and the valuables were missing. The key remained in its usual place, suggesting that someone familiar with their routine may have accessed the locker. A case was registered at the Dharmasthala Police Station under Sections 331(1) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. He employed Jobin Mathew as a rubber tapper on May 3, who was also residing in the plantation's shelter. According to the complaint, between 1pm on May 17 and 8pm on May 19, Jobin allegedly stole around 13 quintals of collected rubber scrap and absconded.
