An innovative Northern Territory Government employment platform is working wonders.
WorkerConnect is tackling the NT's labour shortage by helping employers and jobseekers.
The easy-to-use platform is not only making it easier for Territorians to fill jobs but is also
enticing many people from interstate and overseas to move to the Territory.
WorkerConnect is free to use – businesses can post job ads and find suitable candidates,
and jobseekers can check job vacancies and upload their CVs.
One of the many enterprises using WorkerConnect is the Nightcliff Sports Club in Darwin's
northern suburbs.
Manager Paul McGuire, who moved to Darwin from the Gold Coast with his wife Angela
earlier this year and immediately bought a house, heard about the digital platform through
discussions with the NT Government and through the Designated Area Migration Agreement, NT DAMA.
'WorkerConnect was so easy to use,' he says.
'It's tailored for NT employers looking to fill skill shortages, especially in regional areas. It's
great to see candidates who are genuinely interested in living and working in the NT.'
The sports club has hired three overseas team members, Parakorn Kunarak from Thailand,
Jane Rinelke from Indonesia and Huizhong 'Jo' Ku from China.
'It was a smooth process,' says Paul.
'They have settled in well and become valuable members of our team.'
Traffic management company, Trafficwerx NT is another Territory business benefiting from
the WorkerConnect platform.
Trafficwerx NT has a dedicated team of traffic controllers available 24 hours a day 365 days a year but are always on the lookout for new team members.
The WorkerConnect has helped the company find new workers at short notice.
Trafficwerx NT media liaison officer, Jen Fellows said 'WorkerConnect a great way to
connect with local talent and promote opportunities across a range of industries'.
'We have used WorkerConnect to post job vacancies, explore candidate profiles and share what qualifications are needed to start working in our industry.
'The AirCV and alerts features are handy for streamlining recruitment. It is also great that we can post jobs on the platform for free.
'I absolutely recommended other businesses to utilise WorkerConnect.'
The Northern Territory Government and industry representatives are heading to New Zealand to encourage jobseekers to make the move, and work and live in the Territory.
The team will deliver a worker attraction seminar in Christchurch on 23 July and a NT Jobs Expo in Auckland on 26 and 27 July.
vacancies can be discovered by jobseekers.

PM watches moment young boy hears for the first time during China trip

Anthony Albanese has wrapped up his lengthy state visit to China by watching young boy hear for the first time using an Australian-designed implant. The Prime Minister's final official engagement on Thursday was a tour of Cohclear's plant in Chengdu. Mr Albanese has touted Australia's world-leading med tech sector in the Chinese research hub, keen to carve out a big piece of the pie as demand grows on the back of China's exploding middle class. But he has been keen to stress the human benefits to doing business throughout his time in China. 'It must be extraordinary to hear for the first time,' Mr Albanese remarked as he and fiancee Jodie Haydon were shown around the Cochlear facility. 'You are changing lives.' This was incredibly special. Suhang’s cochlear implant was activated, and his parents invited us to witness it. Cochlear is a proud Australian invention, and by sharing our skills and technology we can change lives across the world for the better. Cochlear have now helped… â€' Anthony Albanese (@AlboMP) July 17, 2025 The plant opened in 2020 and follows the same manufacturing process as in Australia. Donning blue personal protective equipment, Mr Albanese and Ms Haydon ventured into a sterile space to inspect the three main Cochlear products. They were also shown a glass-walled room where the products are assembled. The room was 10-times more sterile than a surgical theatre. Mr Albanese was then taken into a private space where he watched the moment a young boy's Cochlear implant was activated. Speaking to media ahead of the tour, he said it would be an 'incredibly proud moment'. 'The idea that an Australian invention gives someone who has never heard the voice of their mum or dad, brother sister, never heard the sound of airconditioning, to hear sound of the river, the birds tweeting – it's amazing,' Mr Albanese told reporters. 'We should be so proud of what we're doing, and it will be an incredibly proud moment for me this afternoon as Australian Prime Minister, to be able to witness that' He also thanked the boy's family 'who have agreed and … wanted to show the difference that it makes'. After five days of high level meetings and sightseeing in three different cities, Mr Albanese will on Friday fly back to Australia.

‘Back to the future': AMP Bank goes back 20 years for new savings account

AMP Bank has added a savings product to its digital offering, promising to strip away 'bonus rate traps' which is leaving millions of Aussies getting little from their savings account. In the past high interest savings accounts were known as a way to offer customers flexibility and a strong interest rates. But over time the traditional account was muddled with added terms and conditions, which according to a 2023 ACCC report, was leading to customers missing out on. AMP Bank GO director John Arnott said this was why AMP was launching its new savings product. 'This is almost like going back to the future, we've seen the success of these high interest accounts in the past,' he said. 'There was a thing in the market 20 years ago which was a high interest online savings account or HIOSA, which was about offering high interest for online accounts that had full flexibility. 'It was very much what you see is what you get, but fast forward 20 years there has been a number of conditions added to these accounts.' AMP's new app based savings account has come to market offering savers 4.5 per cent on balances up to $250,000, without a minimum deposit, no withdrawal conditions and no monthly fees. The savings account is only available through its GO app and must be linked to a GO everyday transaction account which will not offer any interest. Mr Arnott said the bank was launch a product from the ground up since the bank only launched six months ago. 'We've gone a bit old school with what you see being what you get,' Mr Arnott said. 'If you look at what consumers want it's transparency, flexibility and peace of mind so we felt if we were going to launch a savings product that our customers are asking for then we should launch a product that solves these challenges.' The launch of a savings account comes as banks are slashing interest rates in line with the Reserve Bank of Australia's rate cutting cycle. The RBA is highly anticipated to cut interest rates on August 12 following its next meeting. AMP, unlike the major four banks, does not host any brick-and-mortar branches, and operates as a 'digital bank'. It follows changes made in January when it introduced numberless debit cards for both its small business and personal banking customers, in a move designed to combat rising fraud and scam risks. The retail bank partnered with US payments giant MasterCard to deliver the striking new-look cards, which don't present any front-facing numbers like standard issue bank cards. The back of the card presents a four-digit number. Customers would still need a 16-digital number online through the app to access their account. The app will include other security features such as advanced fraud and scam protection systems to protect customers and multimodal biometric authentication, the bank said.
