Egyptian, Rwandan Foreign Ministers discuss bilateral ties, DR Congo crisis
Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, Badr Abdelatty, held a telephone call on Sunday, April 6th, with Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe.
During the call, Abdelatty conveyed his sincere condolences on the anniversary of the Rwandan genocide, 'Kwibuka', which falls on Monday, April 7th. Both ministers affirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations between Egypt and Rwanda, building on fruitful cooperation in various fields, particularly economic and trade sectors. This cooperation aims to serve the interests of both countries and support development and stability efforts in the African continent. They also agreed to continue political coordination in regional and international forums.
The call also addressed developments in the region, particularly the crisis in eastern Congo. The Egyptian Foreign Minister expressed Egypt's full support for all peaceful efforts aimed at achieving stability and reaching a peaceful resolution to the conflict. In this context, the ministers discussed the outcomes of the joint ministerial meeting between the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the East African Community (EAC). That meeting resulted in agreements on practical steps to implement a ceasefire and cessation of hostilities, as well as the establishment of a follow-up secretariat to implement the decisions issued.
Abdelatty welcomed the outcomes of the joint EAC and SADC summit held virtually on March 24th, which approved accelerating the peace process through the appointment of a group of five facilitators for the political track. He described this as an important step towards supporting dialogue and achieving stability in the region.
