Real Madrid ace Kylian Mbappe reflected on his first season at the Bernabeu after being voted his club's best player in 2024/2025. Furthermore, he revealed that he and his teammates are looking forward to playing the Club World Cup in the United States this summer.
Mbappe has just concluded his first season in Los Blancos colors after completing a high profile free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
Initially encountering teething problems in his first few months, not helped by having to adapt to a new position, he went on to become Europe and Spain's top goalscorer in 2024/2025 while one of few highlights in a campaign for Madrid that lacked major silverware.
To add to his Pichichi and Golden Boot gongs, Mbappe has also been handed the Mahou Five Star Player Award as his team's leading star this season which prompted him to review the term.
'This was my first season in Spain, a new experience for me as a player and as a man, so I'm very happy to be here at Real Madrid,' Mbappe remarked.
'I had to adapt to the team, and adapt to the country with a new language, a new culture. Now I think about it I feel very good at the club, in the team, in the city, in the country, and you can see that on the pitch,' he added.
While as said Madrid might not have landed major silverware under the since departed Carlo Ancelotti, it lifted the UEFA Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup with the Club World Cup next month providing the chance to seal a treble of sorts.
'It's the first time we're going to play in a competition like this. It's something new for us, but we're also looking forward to it because it's a new opportunity to be world champions with the club,' Mbappe said about the newly-reimagined 32 team affair which will take place on American soil.
'It's a great competition, in the United States, with everyone watching and looking forward to it. As I say, it's something new for us so we're going to try to win it,' the Frenchman then promised.
Ahead of a new La Liga campaign and attempt to dethrone FC Barcelona, new Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso can test the waters at the Club World Cup. In the US, Luka Modric will play his last minutes in his iconic Los Blancos shirt ahead of moving on.

Man City chief urges club to stay patient over charges decision
Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said his club are being "patient" as they wait for the verdict on charges of alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules. City were referred to an independent commission in February 2023 over the charges, which the club strongly deny. The case was heard between September and December last year but no decision has yet been announced. City could face a points deduction, a heavy fine or even relegation from the Premier League if they are found guilty. "Well, I suppose the only thing I can say is we still don't have a ruling," Khaldoon said this week. "Once there's a ruling, I'll be able to speak about it. Until then we just have to be patient, and it'll come, and we will talk about it, I promise you, once we have the ruling." The investigation, which resulted in more than 100 charges being made against City, started back in 2018. City were charged with failing to report accurate financial information for nine seasons stretching from 2009-10 to 2017-18, as well as failing to provide full details of former manager Roberto Mancini's pay between 2009-10 and 2012-13. They are also charged with failing to provide full details of remuneration in contracts with players between 2010-11 and 2015-16, and with failing to co-operate with the investigation over a period from 2018 to 2023. The club said at the time the charges were laid that they welcomed the opportunity for a commission "to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of our position". City won the Champions League at the end of the season the charges were laid, securing themselves a place in FIFA's expanded 32-team Club World Cup which starts next month. World players' union FIFPRO has criticised the scheduling of the competition amid player welfare concerns and, along with Europe's domestic leagues organisation, has filed legal complaints against FIFA over a lack of consultation around the international match calendar. Despite that, Khaldoon insists the club are taking the competition seriously and treating it as the official start of next season rather than an extension of the current one. "This is a very, very serious competition. In the summer, the whole world will be watching this," he said. "A big number of the top teams in the world will be competing in this tournament and I can assure you, we're going to give it our best shot." smg/bsp

Real Madrid pays fee to get Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool in time for Club World Cup
Associated Press Real Madrid's decision to pry defender Trent Alexander-Arnold out of his Liverpool contract one month before it expires could pay dividends at the Club World Cup. The Spanish club will pay Liverpool a reported fee of up to 10 million euros ($11 million) to get the England right back on June 1 — rather than for free at the end of the month. That means the 26-year-old Alexander-Arnold — who has agreed on a six-year contract through June 2031 — will be able to play for Xabi Alonso's team at the Club World Cup in the United States starting in mid-June, Madrid announced Friday. The prize for the Club World Cup champion? Up to $125 million. 'Welcome @trentarnold66!' fellow England international Jude Bellingham wrote on Instagram about his new Madrid teammate, accompanied by a photo of the pair. Madrid opens its Club World Cup group stage against Saudi club Al-Hilal on June 18 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. Alexander-Arnold had been criticized by some Liverpool fans for having let his contract run down — meaning he could leave as a free agent. But since Alexander-Arnold was still under contract with the Premier League champions until the end of June, Liverpool was able to extract a fee for letting him go early. Special windows Madrid and the other 31 teams playing in the Club World Cup can make early signings under FIFA-approved special trading windows from June 1-10 and again June 27-July 3. Liverpool, which did not qualify for the Club World Cup, confirmed it accepted Madrid's offer for Alexander-Arnold and that it 'will receive a fee for his services, with the deal to be concluded once the window opens on June 1.' Neither club specified the amount. Alexander-Arnold had announced earlier this month that he'd be leaving his boyhood club — with Madrid the expected destination. By its own high standards, Madrid had a disappointing season, finishing runner-up to rival Barcelona despite having signed France star Kylian Mbappe last summer. Madrid hopes that Alexander-Arnold will reinforce a defense that was hammered by injuries this season as the team failed to win a title. The team's announcement noted that he 'can also play in midfield.' Coaching change Alexander-Arnold will join Bellingham on a team that is undergoing a coaching change with Alonso taking over from Carlo Ancelotti. At Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold helped the club win two Premier League titles, a Champions League title and two FA Cup trophies, among other silverware. 'Alexander-Arnold leaves Liverpool FC with the club appreciative and grateful for his contribution to those successes,' the Merseyside club said in a statement. He made 354 appearances for Liverpool and scored 23 goals — but his key attribute is as a provider from the right side, perhaps most famously in the Champions League semifinals in 2019 when his quickly taken corner set up Divock Origi's strike to complete a memorable comeback against Barcelona at Anfield. ___ AP soccer: recommended in this topic
