Chelsea vs Palmeiras: Preview & Score Prediction
Chelsea and Palmeiras meet once again at the FIFA Club World Cup – this time in the quarter-finals – three years after the Blues beat the Brazilians in extra-time to lift the 2021 title. Kick-off is at 2 a.m. Moroccan time (GMT+1) at Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia and fans can catch the action live for free on the DAZN website and app. Palmeiras arrive off the back of a tense, all-Brazilian brawl with Botafogo, where they held their nerve to advance. But the win came at a cost — key defenders Gustavo Gomés and Joaquín Piquerez are both suspended. Ferreira is expected to plug the gaps with Micael and Vanderlan, while veteran striker Paulinho, still carrying a knock, is likely to be used sparingly once again. All eyes will be on Estêvão, the 18-year-old gem already Chelsea signed. This could well be his farewell in green. In midfield, Richard Ríos has quietly run the show all tournament and will fancy his chances against a Chelsea side missing suspended Moisés Caicedo. Chelsea scraped past Benfica after a chaotic, storm-delayed match, but questions remain. Enzo Maresca's side has yet to hit top gear, and Palmeiras won't be pushovers. The Blues are missing Caicedo and could also be without Roméo Lavia, meaning Andrey Santos may be handed a rare start alongside Enzo Fernández. Cole Palmer, still Chelsea's best creative outlet, is expected to play centrally again with Madueke and potentially Pedro Neto flanking him — the latter playing through personal grief after the loss of close friend Diogo Jota in a car crash in Spain. João Pedro, the latest addition, may start on the bench but could feature if things get tight. Nicolas Jackson returns from suspension and is expected to start up top over Liam Delap, who is one yellow away from suspension. Predicted Lineups: Palmeiras (4-2-3-1): Wéverton; Giay, Micael, Fuchs, Vanderlan; Martínez, Ríos; Estêvão, Torres, Allan; Roque Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Sánchez; James, Adarabioyo, Colwill, Cucurella; Santos, Fernández; Neto, Palmer, Madueke; Jackson Score Prediction: Chelsea have more firepower, more depth, and a golden path to the final. Palmeiras will fight, and Estêvão may have his say, but this should be the match where Maresca's men finally click. The Blues are to advance — and convincingly. AFP: Achraf Hakimi Stakes His Claim as Strong Ballon d'Or Contender
Rabat — While much of the spotlight at Paris Saint-Germain falls on Ousmane Dembélé, Moroccan full-back Achraf Hakimi has been quietly making a compelling case for himself as a serious contender for this year's Ballon d'Or. AFP released a recent report extolling the Moroccan international, saying he has strengthened his bid with standout performances throughout the season, including a strong showing at the Club World Cup. The prestigious award, which will be presented on September 22, has rarely gone to a defender — and never to a full-back. At the start of the season, Hakimi's name was far from any shortlist of likely winners. Yet week after week, the 26-year-old has impressed with remarkable consistency, outshining even his more celebrated teammate Dembélé, who himself has enjoyed a prolific, goal-filled campaign. Hakimi has embodied the qualities of the modern full-back: blistering pace, relentless runs up and down the flank, pinpoint passing and crossing, and sharp tactical awareness. His exceptional fitness — which he credits to both natural ability and meticulous preparation — has also been key. 'It's something God gave me — this cardio power for sustained effort,' he told reporters in May. 'I also have a personal trainer and nutritionist, and the coach has managed my playing time well so I can always stay in top shape.' This season has also seen Hakimi tactically, evolve, cutting inside more often to combine with teammates or switch play across the field — a reflection of his ability to bring coach Luis Enrique's vision to life. 'Luis Enrique has taken my game to a level I didn't think possible,' Hakimi admitted. 'He helped me become a more complete player.' Typically reserved with the media, the Moroccan defender nevertheless acknowledged the personal and professional growth he has experienced this year. 'I'm very happy with my season, one of my best. I've grown both as a footballer and as a person. I feel more confident, more mature, and more experienced,' he said. Even his coach has heaped praise on him, saying: 'I've never seen a better right-back — he has enormous potential and still room to grow.' Asked about the Ballon d'Or, Luis Enrique mentioned Dembélé first but quickly added Hakimi's name to the conversation. Statistically, Hakimi's contributions speak volumes: 11 goals and 14 assists in 52 matches. Despite also competing at the Paris Olympics, he has finished the season strongly, already netting twice at the Club World Cup. To crown his extraordinary campaign, Hakimi won the Marc-Vivien Foé Prize, awarded by RFI and France 24 to the best African player in Ligue 1, chosen by a panel of 100 jurors. In the shadow of PSG's star-studded lineup, Hakimi has emerged as one of the club's most indispensable players — and, a legitimate Ballon d'Or contender. Fluminense vs Al Hilal: Preview & Score Prediction
Fluminense meets Al Hilal today in the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida. Kick-off is at 8 p.m. Moroccan time (GMT+1), and fans can catch the action live for free on the DAZN website and app. Fluminense, fresh off dumping Inter Milan out, are brimming with belief. Renato Gaúcho's men gave the Italians a tactical slap, scoring early through Germán Cano and finishing them off late via Hércules. They've now gone 10 matches unbeaten and haven't conceded a second-half goal all tournament – a stat that'll force Al Hilal's forwards to take notes. The Brazilians will be without left-back Renê due to suspension, with Gabriel Fuentes likely stepping in. Midfielder Martinelli took a knock but should be fit enough to partner Hércules in the engine room. On the other side, Al Hilal are still buzzing from the match of the competition so far: a 4–3 thriller that saw them take out Manchester City. Despite having about 10% of the ball and facing 30 shots, Simone Inzaghi's men stunned Pep Guardiola's side in extra time, with Marcos Leonardo stealing the headlines and Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou doing his best Spider-Man impersonation in goal. Both Mitrović and Al-Dawsari are out, but it hasn't stopped Inzaghi's men one bit. Marcos Leonardo has stepped up in style, and the midfield duo of Rúben Neves and Sergej Milinković-Savić are bossing the tempo. The defense, led by Koulibaly, Cancelo, and Lodi, is stacked with European experience. And there's Bounou — the brick wall. The new loanee Abderazzak Hamdallah has joined his teammates in the training camp and is expected to make a cameo appearance for the Blue Wave.. The Moroccan striker has been a proven goalscorer in the Saudi League with Al-Ittihad, Al-Nassr, and Al-Shabab. Al Hilal won't panic if they go behind. They soaked up City's pressure and hit back with fast counters. Expect more of the same here. Predicted Lineups: Fluminense (4-2-3-1): Fabio; Xavier, Thiago Silva, Freytes, Fuentes; Martinelli, Hércules; Arias, Nonato, Canobbio; Cano Al-Hilal (4-2-3-1): Bounou; Cancelo, Koulibaly, Al-Harbi, Lodi; N. Al-Dawsari, Neves, Kanno; Milinković-Savić; Malcom, Leonardo Score Prediction: Fluminense will create chances — but Al Hilal look sharper and more clinical when it matters. Inzaghi's men have already taken down one giant, and they'll fancy their chances one more time against the Brazilians. MWN says Fluminense 1–2 Al Hilal Tags: Al HilalClub World CupFluminense
