Why AFL legend Brendan Fevola and Guy Sebastian have been investigated for trying to play a game of footy

Daily Mail08-05-2025

AFL legend Brendan Fevola has agreed to make a shock return to footy - for one match - alongside Aussie music star Guy Sebastian.
But the appearance of the high-profile duo this weekend for Victorian park team Masala Dandenong in the Division 5 Thirds competition was first subject to an investigation by Australia's biggest amateur football competition.
After being cleared to play, Carlton great Fevola and inaugural Australian Idol winner Sebastian will turn out for the Tigers, who were beaten last start by 229 points by St Bedes Mentone.
It follows a recent promotion on Fox FM, where Fevola is a breakfast host in Melbourne alongside Fifi Box and Nick Cody.
The radio station offered Fevola's services on the field to battling local footy clubs - and Masala Dandenong jumped at the opportunity.
Earlier this week, Masala posted on Instagram about their latest 'recruits', with Sebastian to also perform at halftime.
But the announcement soon had a twist after several rival Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) clubs queried the development given the amateur competition prohibits player payments.
A subsequent investigation revealed Fevola and Sebastian will not be paid - and both stars are reportedly willing to sign a legal document confirming the league's findings.
A Fox FM producer said Fevola and Sebastian's involvement was purely 'a promotional exercise.'
'I can confirm that both Guy Sebastian and Brendan Fevola will not receive any payment or benefits from bar sales, or revenue relating to raffles, or auctions or similar that may or may not take place from any fundraising initiative by either Fox FM or Masala on the day or in the lead-up or post-match,' a statement read.
'This is a promotional exercise for Fev (for the radio show) and Guy (for his music), not a money-making exercise.'
Fevola made his AFL debut in 1999 with the Blues and quickly earnt a reputation as a prolific goalkicker.
His career was often overshadowed by frequent off-field incidents, but he remains a fan favourite after making the move into breakfast radio in 2016.
Last month, Fevola's stomach-churning habit of keeping his dentures in his car was exposed by his daughter Lulu in a hilarious video on social media.
The clip begins with the 15-year-old telling her father she's making a 'family TikTok' video at dinner as he relaxes in an armchair, sipping a glass of wine.
Fevola responds, 'I don't have my tooth, mate,' and says it's 'in the car', after which Lulu goes out to his Mercedes SUV and retrieves his denture from the centre console.
'So annoying, happens every time,' Lulu says, before wrapping her hand in toilet paper to pick it up and branding the habit 'just disgusting'.
When she gives the toilet paper-wrapped tooth back to her dad, he says, 'Thanks, hon,' before throwing the paper back at her - with the video ending just as Lulu starts to yell in shock.

Singer Casey Donovan reveals that her career has 'taken a toll' on her mental and physical health

Casey Donovan has opened up about the tremendous toll her busy work schedule has had on her mind and body. The 37-year-old, who soared to fame after winning Australian Idol in 2004, said that the last six years have been so frantic for her its left a 'mark' on her mental health and physical health. Casey, who is planning a wedding with fiancée Renee Sharples, has kept up a frantic pace since 2021, including starring in the musicals 9 to 5, & Juliet, and Sister Act. 'I haven't really stopped in the last six to seven years,' she told Stellar Magazine on Saturday. 'I've just kind of jumped from show to show to show. I've done the eight shows a week. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'It certainly does take its toll on your body and your mental health, but I don't take this for granted. I've very grateful. 'Because I know what it is like to have everything stop, and what it is like to never stop.' Elsewhere in the chat the star appeared surprised by her continuing success. 'I never looked into the future and saw where I would be today,' Donovan tells Stellar. 'It's a really beautiful thing.' Casey, meanwhile, is not taking any time off and is currently getting set to appear in the Broadway success Kimberly Akimbo. First performed in the US in 2001, the Australian version is currently in rehearsal and will premiere in Adelaide before a season in Melbourne in July. It comes after Casey recently opened up about her upcoming wedding to fiancée Renee Sharples after announcing her engagement to her long-time partner in June last year. During an appearance on The Project, Casey gave an insight into how the planning of the nuptials is progressing. Appearing on the beleaguered Channel Ten show to promote her upcoming musical Kimberley Akimbo, it wasn't too long before Casey was pressed on details for the big day. 'We keep chatting about it and we're like: "do we have something big? Do We have something small?" she said. 'Do we just run away and do it ourselves and then throw a party? Which I haven't told Renee, I'm so sorry,' she said to her fiancée down the camera. Casey revealed that she and Renee were planning to tie the knot in June last year. It's certainly been a busy time for Casey who has recently starred in successful runs of musicals & Juliet and Sister Act. She also recently partnered with weight loss program Juniper to help to achieve her fitness goals. 'I've kind of been on, I guess, my own little journey through health and fitness in the last few months when they approached [me],' Casey told Daily Mail Australia in April. She added that, with medication already a part of her weight loss regimen, she was looking for some extra help and direction. 'I kind of I sat with it and being already that I was already on a form of medication, I was kind of at that point where I needed that extra bit of help, she said. 'It kind of came at the perfect time, because I was trying to just bumble through life with all the other things that I knew that I picked up from other weight loss programs. Just kind of fumbling my way through.'

Abbie Chatfield issues stark warning to women who date Trump supporters: 'Dangerous'

Abbie Chatfield has warned women against dating men who support US president Donald Trump. The former Bachelor star, 29, tells this week's issue of Stellar Magazine that she feels conservative men are 'dangerous'. 'I don't think women should date Trump supporters. I think these far-right people are actively dangerous to women, and I don't think that any [woman] should be dating someone who's a misogynist' she told the publication. Abbie explained that trans people would not be expected to date transphobic people, so, 'Why are we okay with women dating misogynists? It's not okay'. The television personality continued: 'It's very dangerous, in fact. 'But if you're a Trump supporter, you're either incredibly uneducated or you're a bad person. That's my personal opinion. 'I think it's completely reasonable to not want to date someone who is politically dangerous to you'. Else where in the interview, Abbie discussed her blossoming romance with DJ boyfriend Adam Hyde. The TV personality revealed the couple recently moved in together after dating for over a year. Calling the romance 'healthy' and 'genuinely beneficial,' she said it's changed her entire outlook on love and what she wants in a partner. 'If I was going to get married and have kids with anyone, it would be Adam,' she shared. Reflecting on her past, Abbie admitted she now recognises how unhealthy some of her previous relationships were – and that being with Adam has set a new standard. 'I either need to be alone or be with Adam,' she declared. 'Those are kind of my two options at this point.' Earlier this year, Abbie hinted that wedding bells might be ringing soon for her and Adam. She told how she has already tried to reserve the Instagram handle 'Abbie Hyde', which would be her married name if she and Adam tie the knot. Despite not yet being engaged, Abbie confessed that she tried to nab the username but was left devastated to learn that it has already been taken by someone else. 'If [me and Adam] ever break up, I'm actually going to f**king lose it,' she said. 'It took three glasses of Chardonnay [at] an influencer event [for] one of my friends to go "do you have the Instagram handle saved for Abbie Hyde?" for me to then go and try to reserve Abbie Hyde as an Instagram handle. 'Not doing a bit, I was like I just won't tell Adam, I'll just reserve it now! It's not available by the way, if you were wondering. 'So I don't know what the f**k to do, now I'm plagued with the thought of, what am I going to change my Instagram handle to when I marry him?' Abbie confirmed her romance with Adam in June 2024 after weeks of speculation, and they have been going strong ever since.
