2 killed, 1 nabbed in separate ops in Maguindanao

Two people were killed while another was arrested in separate operations against illegal drugs and selling of firearms in Maguindanao provinces. Police and military personnel were about to serve an arrest warrant against a man who is facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act in Datu Montawal, Maguindanao del Sur. However, the operating team engaged the subject of the warrant and his companions in an exchange of fire, which resulted in the death of one of the suspects and the arrest of his companion. The subject of the warrant escaped and is being pursued, as of this writing. Seized from the suspects who were slain and arrested were a .45 pistol, a magazine, ammunition, and sachets of suspected shabu. Meanwhile, troops of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-2, personnel of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), and other police units conducted an entrapment operation against the alleged selling of firearms in Barira, Maguindanao del Norte. The target of the operation was identified as alias 'Rokkie,' who is facing charges for murder, frustrated murder, and robbery. Instead of surrendering, the suspect allegedly opened fire, prompting authorities to return fire. The suspect was killed during the encounter. According to the 6th Infantry Division (6ID), the operation was launched after an informant tipped authorities that the suspect was allegedly planning to sell firearms in the area. During the operation, authorities seized several firearms, including an M16 rifle, M14 rifle, several magazines, ammunition, a grenade, and a caliber .45 pistol. 6ID added that the suspect was said to be part of an armed group allegedly involved in illegal activities, including gun-for-hire, robbery-holdup, and illegal drug trade in the region. 'Ang mga matagumpay na operasyong ito ay sumasalamin sa matatag na ugnayan at koordinasyon ng AFP at PNP. Patuloy nating pinapaigting ang suporta sa pagpapatupad ng batas upang gawing ligtas ang ating mga komunidad mula sa banta ng ilegal na droga, armas, at armadong grupo. Binabati ko ang ating mga tropa sa kanilang katapangan at mabilis na aksyon,' 6ID Commander, Major General Donald Gumiran, said. (These successful operations represent the firm connection and coordination between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police. We will continue to intensify our support to enforce the law in order to safeguard our communities from the threat of illegal drugs, firearms and armed groups. I commend our troops for their courage and prompt action.) — GMA Regional TV News
