‘Yikes': Delivery driver's careless act divides

A Melbourne resident has shared security footage of a delivery driver tossing a package onto their front porch, just steps from the door.
The video, which quickly went viral on Reddit, has reignited debate about the increasingly 'lazy' behaviour of courier drivers across Australia.
The CCTV captured the delivery person, from an unknown company, arriving on the resident's porch with the package in hand.
He then casually tosses it a couple of metres ahead of him onto the doorstep, instead of taking a few more steps to place it there safely.
Without missing a beat, the driver pulls out his phone, snaps a quick photo, presumably to mark the item as 'delivered', and then leaves.
'HOPE THAT ISN'T MY VINTAGE CRYSTAL GLASSWARE I BOUGHT …' the poster captioned the clip.
'I'm literally on the other side of the door, by the way …' they added.
Commenters quickly shared their thoughts, many calling the driver's actions unnecessary and careless.
'That toss was so unnecessary. What a d***head,' one person wrote, while another said, 'Literally couldn't walk the extra two steps and place it down like a normal human'.
Another joked, 'I'm more gentle with bags of cement than this'.
Others viewed it as part of a broader issue: 'So typical. Couriers have become increasingly untrustworthy in my eyes over the past few years. They don't bother knocking now'.
Some claimed they would have 'ripped the door open' and confronted the man if they saw this happen in real time.
'There's not a shred of guilt in his face either … clearly, he's done this before,' someone else pointed out.
A former courier clarified that this is not 'part of the job,' saying, 'I can't stand to see this. I worked as a courier for five years and never once did anything like this. It's a pretty cruisy job and it really doesn't take much effort to place the parcel instead of throwing it.
'The only rare times I'd toss it were if I couldn't access the premises, had permission to leave, or there was a dog on the loose, and even then, I'd try to make sure it wasn't easily damaged.'
Yet, not everyone agreed.
Some argued that packages go through much worse during delivery.
'If your parcel can't survive this, it won't survive transit,' one said.
'Promise you the package has been tossed much further on the way there,' another added.
'This is the most gentle way that this package has been treated throughout its journey,' a third claimed.
This incident follows a string of delivery mishaps in recent years.
Just last month, an Australia Post contractor was sacked after being caught on camera faking a delivery attempt.
Instead of dropping off the parcel, he walked to the house entrance empty-handed, snapped a 'proof of delivery' photo, and drove away.
Australia Post responded quickly after the footage circulated, telling customers that the driver has since been dismissed.
