Rex Heuermann's Ex-Wife Speaks Out in New Docuseries on Gilgo Beach Killings: Hear Clip of Their Phone Call

Heuermann is accused of killing seven women between 1993 and 2010Asa Ellerup, the ex-wife of suspected Long Island serial killer Rex Heuermann, is speaking out in a new docuseries.
'The investigator says to me, 'Have you heard about the murders on Gilgo Beach?' Ellerup says in the trailer for the three-part series, The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets, premiering on Peacock on Tuesday, June 10. 'I've heard of them."
The docuseries 'goes inside the suspect's home for the first time, where exclusive commentary from his own family unravels a chilling portrait of a man accused of living a double life and hiding dark secrets under their own roof,' according to a press release.
In the trailer, Heuermann, who is in jail pending trial, can be heard talking to Ellerup on the phone while she is at home.
'How're you doing?,' Ellerup asks.
"Alright, how are you today?" Heuermann replies.
'I'm doing great now that I've got you on the phone,' she says.
Heuermann is accused of killing seven women between 1993 and 2010 and disposing of their bodies around the Long Island area. Authorities said the former architect is linked to the murders through cell tower data, a witness's description of his Chevrolet Avalanche, and DNA from hairs found on some of the victims.
He was first arrested in July 2023 after DNA allegedly linked him to the alleged murders of Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy and Amber Costello. Evidence later allegedly tied him to the homicides of four more women: Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Sandra Costilla, Jessica Taylor and Valerie Mack.
All seven of the women were working as escorts when they vanished without a trace. The remains of Waterman, Barthelemy, Costello and Brainard-Barnes were discovered along Gilgo Beach, an oceanside neighborhood on Long Island, N.Y., in 2010, while police were investigating the disappearance of another escort named Shannan Gilbert.

Ellerup filed for divorce from Heuermann in 2023 days after he was arrested for the murders of Waterman, Barthelemy and Costello. A divorce settlement was reached in March — even though Ellerup thinks her ex-husband is "not capable" of committing the crimes he's accused of, Ellerup's attorney Bob Macedonio previously told PEOPLE. (The divorce was finalized in April, Ellerup's attorney tells PEOPLE.)
"This has been in the works for the last couple years," Macedonio said. "She needs to move on with her life for her and her children. She realizes that."
Ellerup, he said, is "withholding any judgment on the guilt or innocence of Rex until the conclusion of the trial. She still maintains the position that the man that she was married to for 29 years was not capable of committing these horrific crimes."
Also interviewed for the docuseries is the couple's daughter Victoria.
The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets premieres Tuesday, June 10 on Peacock with all episodes available to stream.

In a statement to PEOPLE obtained on Thursday, Aug. 14, the pilot claimed that he's been unable to leave Antarctica. Guo also said he was "grateful" and "relieved" that the charges against him have been dropped, per ABC News. He claimed that he's lost weight during his alleged detainment on the island, saying he felt like a "prisoner" and that authorities "won't let me leave," according to the outlet. Guo's lawyer also told ABC News that "despite his exoneration, the Chilean government has not allowed him to fly his airworthy plane off the base." 'We are very grateful for his progress and pleased we are finally moving in the right direction,' Stephanie Neely tells PEOPLE of her son's condition since surviving three days without food or water NEED TO KNOW Dakota 'Cody' Trenkle Jr., 13, was missing for three days until he was found at the bottom of a ravine on Wednesday, July 30 He was then airlifted to a St. Louis hospital, where he was placed in a medically induced coma On Wednesday, Aug. 13, his mother, Stephanie Neely, tells PEOPLE that despite Dakota still being at the start of the recovery process, his family is "very grateful for his progress" Dakota "Cody" Trenkle Jr., the 13-year-old boy who was missing for over three days before he was found at the bottom of a ravine, has woken up from an 11-day medically induced coma, his mother, Stephanie Neely, tells PEOPLE. "[It took] 11 long days after being missing for 80 hours' for her 'to have hope that Cody was going to be okay," Neely says. Dakota went missing on Sunday, July 27, after he was last seen skateboarding in Goose Creek Lake, Mo. The young teen went more than three days without food or water. On Wednesday, July 30, his brother discovered Dakota's skateboard a half a mile from their home. Later that day, the Farmington Correctional Center (FCC) K-9 unit deployed their bloodhound named Darrell, who found Dakota lying in a foot of water. Dakota was airlifted to a St. Louis hospital, where he was placed in a medically induced coma with a brain bleed, his mom previously told PEOPLE. He suffered deep wounds to his body, as well as severe head trauma, several brain bleeds, an additional fracture on his skull, weakened kidneys and needed a ventilator to breathe. After nearly two weeks of Stephanie waiting by his bedside, Dakota was alert and there were signs of him waking up on Friday, Aug. 8, per the Facebook group dedicated to providing updates, titled "Dakota Strong." By Saturday, Aug. 9, Stephanie tells PEOPLE that he was alert enough to share his affection by signing the American Sign Language gesture for 'I love you.' 'That moment was pivotal to me. It's made the last couple weeks of stress, heartache, hope, gratitude, sadness, and pain worth it because that small gesture meant my boy was coming back to me,' she says. He was off the ventilator by Sunday, Aug. 10. 'He is doing so well!!' a post on the Facebook page read. 'We still have a long recovery road ahead, but this is huge progress!!!!!!' On Monday, Aug. 11, Dakota enjoyed his first meal: a burger and a Coke. Additionally, because he fell into the 240-foot deep ravine, he also suffered severe wounds on his back because he was submerged for so long. 'His brain injuries are still very prominent, and are being monitored very closely,' Neely tells PEOPLE. She notes that he will be transferred to a pediatric hospital inpatient unit that specializes in physical, occupational, and psychological therapies. "He was born super preemie, and he fought for his life then, and now, almost 14 years later, he's doing it again." Anna Delvey is breaking her silence after being accused of dumping multiple rabbits used during a photoshoot in New York City.
