Plan to improve bus connections to hospital
Plans have been drawn up to improve bus connections from parts of Derby to the city's main hospital.
Derby City Council is working with bus firm Notts & Derby to add more Link 2 services between the city centre and the Royal Derby Hospital via Mickleover and Mackworth.
The move will be paid for by government funding through the council's Bus Service Improvement Plan.
Carmel Swan, cabinet member for transport, said it was hoped the changes would make it easier for staff to get to and from work.
Alterations to the existing Link 2 route will see the service head into the city centre and back to the hospital via the A52 Ashbourne Road.
The service will also run every hour and "complement hospital shift times".
The council is carrying out an ongoing review of the city's bus network with priority placed on enhancing links to key destinations such as the hospital.
Swan said: "As a council, we are committed to creating a greener, better-connected city.
"It is enhancements like this that give our communities better, more sustainable options.
Notts & Derby manager Stuart Frost said: "We are really looking forward to providing a reliable service to the residents of Mackworth and Mickelover to hopefully make their connections much easier."

Powered by a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8, the Jesko produces 1,280 horsepower on standard fuel—or up to 1,600 hp on E85—and is capable of reaching 62 mph in under three seconds. According to his Instagram posts, Naran, 39, was enjoying lunch at the nearby Rooftop Gardens while the parking incident unfolded. Originally from Zimbabwe, the entrepreneur built his jet charter empire after studying automotive design, and later launched his own hypercar company, Naran Automotive. Despite his aviation focus, cars have remained central to Naran's identity. A former aspiring racing driver, he once told Forbes that he dreamed of building supercars since childhood. His clients—ranging from royals to ultra-high-net-worth individuals—spend up to $1 million a month on private travel, and often shop at elite brands like Harrods, Ferrara Diamonds, and Asprey London. This isn't the first luxury car to run afoul of Derry Street's strict parking rules. Comedian Michael McIntyre had his £195,000 Mercedes-AMG GT R towed from the same location in May after parking in a police-only zone. Longtime Lower East Side Restaurant Pig and Khao Is Closing
Pig and Khao, Leah Cohen's Southeast Asian restaurant, which had been on the Lower East Side for more than a decade, is shutting down. An Instagram announcement stated that the restaurant's last day at 68 Clinton Street, near Rivington Street, is June 22. The lease had been up for renewal, and with the building 'requiring significant investment to remain operational,' they made the decision not to renew. Eater has reached out for more information. Cohen first opened Pig and Khao 13 years ago on the coattails of making a name on Top Chef. It had a dramatic first year before cementing itself as a longtime standby in the Lower East Side amidst so much change in the neighborhood. Cohen has expanded the Pig and Khao name over the years: She opened Piggyback, an offshoot concept, near Penn Station in 2020, with creative spins influenced by food in Japan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and her travels. Cohen also announced this week that she would be shutting this restaurant down on June 22 as well. It is survived by her last-remaining Manhattan operation: Pig and Khao on the Upper West Side, which opened a couple of months ago. In 2021, it was reported that Pig and Khao would undergo an unlikely partnership, for 'financial and strategic support,' combining forces with the speakeasy cocktail bar team PDT and chef Marc Forgione's restaurants under a newly-formed hospitality group, Apres Cru. Faicco's Sandwich Shop Abruptly Closes Sarasota Location
A beloved New York sandwich restaurant with a 120-year history has abruptly closed a location. "After a lot of thought, it's time to say goodbye. Faicco's Sandwich Shop will be closing its doors," the company wrote on Instagram of its Sarasota, FL restaurant. The Faicco's in New York still remains open. It has existed since 1900 in that city. "To our loyal customers: thank you. Whether you stopped by once or came in every week, your support meant everything to us. You kept the spirit of this place alive longer than the numbers ever made sense," the restaurant wrote on Instagram of the Florida store. "Running a small business is not for the faint of heart—and truthfully, there were more than a few days that tested our limits. In the end, it just wasn't sustainable. The love was there, but the business wasn't," the restaurant noted. "Still, we're proud of what we built and grateful for the community that built it with us. Thank you for the memories, the orders, the conversations, and the chance to be part of your days. Tomorrow, Saturday, May 31st, will be our last day," the post concluded. The website explained, "Our family opened Faicco's Pork Store in 1900 on Elizabeth Street in NYC. We've been proudly serving customers for over 120 years, and are excited to bring our recipes to Sarasota." According to Sarasota Magazine, the Florida location opened in 2022. The Italian hero sandwiches on the menu ranged from mortadella to chicken pesto, the magazine reported. A woman wrote on the restaurant's Instagram thread, "Very sad news indeed. Faicco's is the best! Grew up with your NY locations; was thrilled when you came to SRQ.
