GA high school athlete, recent graduate identified as 2 killed in crash
The crash happened just after 4 p.m. along Ga. 1 near Center Point Road in Walker County.

LaFayette High School confirmed Wednesday that Brennon Beavers, a junior football player, died in the crash. Beavers also played for the school's baseball team.

WTVC, Channel 2's ABC affiliate in Chattanooga, reports the other victim who died was a recent high school graduate.
Walker County Superintendent Damon Raines identified her as Cassidy Mitchell and told WTVC that her brother, Cooper, was injured in the crash.
Family members shared their memories of Mitchell on Facebook.

Georgia State Patrol said the crash involved multiple vehicles: a Toyota Tacoma heading south on Ga. 1 in the left southbound lane; a gray Jeep Renegade heading north in the left lane; and a black Nissan Rogue heading north in the right lane.
Troopers said the Tacoma driver 'abruptly' went into the northbound lane and collided head-on with the Jeep before overturning.
The driver of the Rogue tried to avoid the crash, but hit the back of the Tacoma, according to investigators.
Troopers said the drivers of the Tacoma and Renegade died at the scene. They have not identified who was driving which vehicle.
What caused the Tacoma driver to veer into the northbound lanes remains under investigation.
Schools around the region are showing their support for the LaFayette and Rock Springs community.
Chattooga High School, who lost several students in a 2022 crash, says it will encourage students and staff to wear orange and black in support of LaFayette.
Several restaurants in LaFayette will also be holding fundraisers later this week.

The arresting officer witnessed Richardson shove Coleman multiple times as Coleman walked away from Richardson — footage caught on security camera — and deemed it enough probable cause to arrest Richardson. The offense was listed as a fourth-degree domestic violence assault, but Coleman, 29, defended her and refused to press charges, instead offering support after the United States Track and Field event in Eugene, Ore. The case was later cleared. 'I feel like it was just a sucky situation all around,' Coleman, 29, said on Aug. 3. 'I don't feel as if she should have been arrested.' Sha'Carri Richardson has offered a public apology to her boyfriend, fellow Olympic sprinter Christian Coleman, for a physical incident that led to her arrest. In surveillance video from the Seattle Tacoma Airport last month, Richardson was seen approaching Coleman from out of the frame and appeared to grab his backpack from behind. Richardson appeared to grill Coleman and nudged him before shoving him into a wall, nudging him more later on. The two appeared to exchange words while walking toward security, with Richardson still nudging him and appearing to reach for his face. Coleman declined to be a victim in the case, a police report said, and he made it very clear that he wants to move on from the "sucky situation." Well, after the two both competed at the U.S. Track and Field Championships shortly following the incident, Richardson posted to her Instagram story on Tuesday to apologize to Coleman. "I apologize to Christian. He came into my life and gave me more than a relationship but a greater understanding of unconditional love from what I've experienced in my past," Richardson wrote. "Due to past trauma and pain. I was blind and blocked off to not only receive it but give it. I love him and to him I can't apologize enough. My apologize (sic) should be just as loud as my actions honestly louder. To Christian I love you and I am so sorry." Despite the incident, Coleman said Richardson should not have been arrested. "People have discussions and emotions and stuff like that. She has things that she needs to work on for herself, of course. So do I, so do you, so does everybody. But I'm the type of guy who's in the business of extending grace, and mercy and love," Coleman told reporters at the USATF event. "I look at situations like this, take a step back, analyze it self-mentally, and then just try to see what you can do to be your best self… She's a human being, and a great person. We've been good teammates all year… She has a lot of things going on, a lot of emotions and forces going on inside of her that not only I can't understand, but nobody can. She's one of one. And I'm one of one too." Richardson missed qualifying for the 200-meter final by one-hundredth of a second at the championships. She has a bye in the 100-meter after winning the world title in that event two years ago. Both Coleman and Richardson won gold at the world championships in 2023 for the 4x100 meter. Coleman also won the event in 2019 as well as the 100-meter. Richardson won the 100 at the 2023 world championships in Budapest, Hungary, and finished with the silver medal in the event at the Paris Games last summer. She also helped take the 4x100 relay to an Olympic gold.

Team USA sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson publicly apologized Tuesday to fellow track athlete Christian Coleman, the boyfriend whom she shoved at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport last month before being arrested for domestic violence. Coleman reportedly refused to press charges after the incident, and the case was quickly cleared. "I apologize to Christian. He came into my life and gave me more than a relationship but a greater understanding of unconditional love from what I've experienced in my past. Due to past trauma and pain," Richardson wrote on Instagram. "I was blind and blocked off to not only receive it but give it. I love him and to him I can't apologize enough. My apologize (sic) should be just as loud as my actions honestly louder. To Christian I love you and I am so sorry." Both Richardson and Coleman competed at the USA Track and Field Championships in in Eugene, Oregon, the weekend following the incident. There, Coleman told reporters that he forgave Richardson and didn't believe she should have been arrested. "For me personally, I feel like it was a sucky situation all round," Coleman said, per USA Today. "I don't feel like she should have been arrested. I mean people have discussions and emotions and stuff like that. She has things that she needs to work on for herself, of course. So do I, so do you, so does everybody. But I'm the type of guy who's in the business of extending grace, and mercy and love." TMZ published security footage of the incident, which occurred in the Seattle airport on July 27 and, according to the police report USA Today obtained, included a verbal altercation as Richardson and Coleman exited through airport security. The footage shows Richardson pulling and pushing Coleman as he walks around the concourse, at one point shoving him into a large column. Richardson is seen following Coleman as he tried to create distance between the two of them, and police said Richardson even threw a pair of headphones at Coleman, per USA Today. Police arrested Richardson after seeing the security tape. She was held in South Correctional Entity in Des Moines, Washington, for close to 24 hours and was released on July 28, according to jail records. Richardson, who won gold in the 4x100 meter relay and silver in the 100 during the 2024 Paris Olympics, is the reigning world champion in the 100. So even though she pulled out of the 100-meter semifinals at the USATF Championships earlier this month, she has automatically qualified for the event at the World Championships in Tokyo this September.
