But one tiny fault with his passport at East Midlands Airport meant he was unable to join them for their break in the sun.
The 48-year-old said that there was a "tiny tear" on the booklet when an old boarding sticker was ripped off.
This meant the document was too "damaged" for him to be allowed to board the plane.
His 35-year-old partner and three "crying" kids had to jet off on holiday without him.

A photo shows a small white tear over part of Jimmy's face on the passport duplicate photo.
This had been where the boarding sticker was removed.
Jimmy claims it was one of the boarding staff who pulled off the sticker, not him.
A TUI spokesperson said passports with stickers on would not be allowed.

However, they added that agents at East Midlands are trained not to take off any stickers by themselves.
Jimmy, from Wolverhampton, said: "It's a total nightmare and I'm absolutely fuming.

"I'm sitting home alone while they're in Lanzarote gutted and they all want to come home because of the situation.
"One year [passport officials] put a sticker on the duplicate photo page. I've been away for six or seven years with no problem at all.

"I got to the airport and passed all the passports over and [a staff member] pulled the sticker straight off and she ripped the page. It's a tiny little tear.
"She literally ripped my passport in front of us all and said 'you can't go'.
"I can't believe she just sat there and ripped my passport instead of giving me the option to tear it off properly so she wouldn't have marked it.
"She looked at me and said 'this one's damaged and you can't use this passport now'.

"It's a tiny mark and the other page is fine. My kids started crying once they realised their dad couldn't go.
"They want their dad there. It's just terrible and I'm absolutely devastated.
"I was so excited to make memories with my family this summer. My daughter is seven and I should be playing in the pool with her but instead I'm stuck at home on my own.
"They're miserable wanting their dad there. We have one holiday a year and you get excited."

He attempted to apply for an emergency passport, but he ended up stuck at home and forced to skip the trip.
His girlfriend Zowie said: "The holiday has been ruined. The experience has been awful as we never go anywhere unless we're together.
"I'm anxious and worried about being in a foreign country on my own with three children and it has totally changed the atmosphere
"All that money wasted and all the months saving to go away together to end up apart."

Brit dad, 54, dies in moped crash on ‘dream' holiday in Corfu just two years after wife's death as family pay tribute

HOLIDAY TRAGEDY Brit dad, 54, dies in moped crash on 'dream' holiday in Corfu just two years after wife's death as family pay tribute A BELOVED British dad has died in a freak accident while enjoying a dream family holiday in Greece. Craig Bloomer, 54, was on the idyllic island of Corfu with his two daughters, their partners and children when tragedy struck. 3 Craig Bloomer tragically died in a moped crash while on holiday in Greece 3 The Brit dad, 54, lost control of the vehicle and died after being rushed to hospital Credit: GoFundMe Craig, from Wolverhampton, lost control of the moped he was riding near the village of Agios Mattheos on July 26 and crashed. The much-loved café owner – described by his daughter as the 'happiest' he had been since losing his wife Jane, 53, to cancer two years ago – was rushed to hospital but pronounced dead by doctors. His eldest daughter Rebecca, 32, said: 'Our dad's loss has left a massive hole in our lives. We lost our mum two years ago to cancer. 'Since then, he has been a bit down in the dumps. On holiday, it was the happiest I'd ever seen him, he had a new girlfriend. 'He was lovely and a proper family man.' Craig, who ran The Cafe in Low Hill alongside daughters Rebecca and Danni Perks, 27, was remembered as a big character in the community. Rebecca said: 'The amount of tributes we've had off people for dad, saying how lovely he was and what a character he was. 'He was like marmite, you either loved him or hated him – and most people loved him.' The devastated family had to cut their trip short following the tragedy, returning home on July 29. Craig's body was flown back to the UK on Wednesday, allowing preparations for his funeral to begin. A GoFundMe page to help the grieving relatives to cover costs has already raised more than £3,000. Holidaymaker's insane sprint to poolside to claim seven sunloungers with towels

The man was filmed as he sprinted from his spot at the pool to claim seven sunloungers all next to each other with towels to reserve them before returning to his room. This is the moment a determined holidaymaker dashes to the pool to claim seven sun loungers at once. ‌ The daily scramble for sunbeds at holiday resorts worldwide is nothing new, with seasoned sun-seekers knowing the early bird catches the best spots. However, what's surprising in a clip from Tenerife is the speed at which one man managed to reserve seven loungers with towels. ‌ Jeff Hunter, from Northern Ireland, shared his astonishment as he watched the man sprint towards the most coveted sunbeds at the hotel. ‌ The 36 year old claims that after securing all seven loungers, the man retreated to his room. Set to the soundtrack of the Chariots of Fire theme tune, the tourist, clad in shorts, burst into view and, upon reaching the beds, sidestepped to lay out the towels. This follows a Brit abroad criticising all-inclusive hotel food, asking 'what on earth is this?, reports the Mirror. ‌ What was perhaps most surprising was that after marking his territory, the man didn't return. Jeff, a chef, spent the morning by the pool, and an hour later, the man still hadn't returned to his reserved spots. The peculiar footage was captured at Parque Santiago III in Tenerife. The three-star hotel, costing around £131 per person per night, is the latest resort to witness the summer holiday sunbed wars. ‌ Jeff described the tourists' behaviour as "insane" after disclosing there were "hundreds" of available beds by the pool when the incident occurred on August 7. "I just think it's all a bit insane," Jeff from Northern Ireland, told Luxury Travel Daily. "There are hundreds of beds available, but he is dead set on getting the same ones every day. I personally don't mind as long as I can get a bed. "I don't know the guy. "He got seven beds and then went back to his room. "He still wasn't using them an hour later when I left. "We have been queuing from around 8:30 am for the pool opening at 9 am. He is always already there when we arrive, and from around 8:55 am, he stands in a runner's stance. "It's the same every day. It's an amazing hotel - just a nightmare in the mornings. "This follows last year when a young couple, who recorded themselves creeping down to their hotel pool at 1am to secure the prime spot, claimed holiday sunbed battles were spiralling out of control at their resort. Aimee Millar, 20, revealed she and her boyfriend had begun sneaking from their room during the night to claim the top sunbeds after discovering other guests were employing the same tactics." In the hotel we stayed at, if we didn't get those certain sunbeds we would've had to pay €7.50 (£6) each for a bed," said Aimee, who was holidaying in Albufeira, Portugal. "As much as it was crazy we didn't mind doing it at 1am as we were staying up later anyways. ".
