‘My daughter is innocent', says father of M.P. woman accused of hiring men to kill husband
The father of an Indore-based woman, who has been accused of hiring men to kill her husband during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, on Monday (June 9, 2025) claimed his daughter was "100% innocent" and demanded a CBI probe into the matter.
A relative of deceased local transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi also said they cannot believe his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi was behind his murder, but if she is proved guilty, she should be given the harshest punishment.
He said Ms. Sonam Raghuvanshi made a video call to her brother on Sunday (June 8, 2025) night following which Raja Raghuvanshi's family informed the Uttar Pradesh police about her presence in that State.
Indore resident Raja Raghuvanshi was allegedly killed by men hired by his wife during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, DGP I. Nongrang said on Monday (June 9, 2025) morning.
Speaking to PTI, she said the woman surrendered before the police in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur, while three other assailants were arrested in overnight raids.
Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife went missing while vacationing in Meghalaya's Sohra area on May 23. His body was found in a gorge on June 2.
Ms. Sonam Raghuvanshi's father, however, refuted the police's claims.
"My daughter is 100% innocent. We demand a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation [CBI] into the case," Ms. Sonam Raghuvanshi's father Devi Singh Raghuvanshi told reporters.
"The Meghalaya police are giving false statements about my daughter because the State Government's image is getting tarnished due to Raja Raghuvanshi's murder case," he alleged. He further claimed the Meghalaya police have no evidence against his daughter that she gave a contract to get her husband killed.
Meanwhile, Raja Raghuvanshi's brother Vipin Raghuvanshi said, "Sonam made a video call to her brother Govind late last night. After this, we called the Uttar Pradesh police and informed them about Sonam being in their State."
"Until the alleged contract killers are confronted with Sonam, we cannot believe that she had hired them to kill her husband," he said. 'If Sonam is found guilty in the murder of her husband, then she should get the harshest punishment,' he added.
The name of a person named Raj Kushwaha has surfaced in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case.
Ms. Sonam's father, who runs a business of Sunmica sheets used in furniture, said a person named Raj Kushwaha is associated with his establishment and till the day before yesterday he was working at his warehouse.
"Kushwaha's name is being wrongly linked with my daughter Sonam. The Meghalaya police are making false allegations against my daughter to save their skin. I will send a legal notice to the Meghalaya police. I want the CBI to investigate the entire matter," he said.
After their marriage on May 11, Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife left for Meghalaya on May 20 for their honeymoon.
They arrived at Mawlakhiat village in the north-eastern State on May 22 on a rented scooter. On May 24, their scooter was found abandoned at a cafe along the road from Shillong to Sohra, following which the search for them began.

Hence it is clear that the injury caused to the devotee was not because of the poor quality of the prasadam", a TTD official clarified. The TTD authorities said the pilgrim has resorted to a malicious misinformation propaganda over the issue by levelling allegations over the quality of laddu with a sole intention of extorting a compensation from the Tirupati trust. "Since none of his allegations is true and since he has resorted to a false propaganda against the laddu prasadam, which has hurt the sentiments of the devotees worldwide, appropriate legal action will be initiated against Naveen Kumar for trying to mislead the public with his false propaganda", TTD authorities added. Meghalaya honeymoon murder: Was money from benami account used to fund Raja Raghuvanshi's killers?
BHOPAL: Ongoing investigations into the Meghalaya honeymoon killing of Indore man Raja Raghuvanshi have brought to the fore the strong possibility that it may have been funded by money from a benami account. 'The three henchmen who executed the killing were all friends of the murder mastermind Raj Kushwaha. Not much money had been handed over to them. Raj had given them about Rs 50,000 for their expenditure out here (in Guwahati and Meghalaya). It has not yet come out whether any big consideration was there, given the fact that Raj doesn't come from a very affluent background. We'll see whether there is any financial or property angle,' Meghalaya East Khasi Hills district police superintendent Vivek Siyam had told journalists in Meghalaya on Thursday evening. According to a source who was part of the joint Madhya Pradesh and Meghalaya police operation which led to the arrest of four men, including Raj Kushwaha and his three friends from MP and UP on June 8-9, 'The money which was paid to the three henchmen, before they left for the North East from Indore on May 17 or May 18, was possibly sourced from an account held by Sonam Raghuvanshi's cousin Jitendra Raghuvanshi, but being operated by her.' This raises the question as to whether the money came from a hawala channel. Sources in the police in the recent past had raised the possibility of Raj having possible links with players in the hawala business. The analysis of Raj's phone after his arrest on June 8 had revealed pictures of old Rs 10 notes, which raised the possibility of his association with the hawala business, particularly as such old notes are often used as proof for collecting money through such channels. According to sources privy to the investigations, it was not just one account opened in the name of Jitendra Raghuvanshi that was being used by Sonam. As many as four accounts including three savings and one current account were opened in Jitendra's name, but used for transactions by Sonam and others. While denying any hawala links to their business, Sonam's brother Govind Raghuvanshi had recently told journalists in Indore, 'Jitendra is a lower rung employee in our godown and also our cousin. The accounts are in his name, but the money which comes in the accounts is ours and is used to meet daily business expenditures.' Jitendra Raghuvanshi hails from adjoining Dewas district and has been working with his cousins for more than a year. His mother Rama Bai, who lives in a two-room house in Dewas district, had recently told some journalists that he has not come home for the last six months and lives on rent in Indore. She had also claimed that bank accounts in Jitendra's name had been opened by Sonam and her family members.

Exalogic case: CM Pinarayi Vijayan's replies vague, petitioner tells Kerala HC
Kochi: M R Ajayan, the petitioner seeking a CBI probe into the controversial CMRL-Exalogic case, has filed a counter-affidavit stating that chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan , a respondent in the petition, offered only vague denials and evasive responses to the allegations against him. Ajayan also sought a court-monitored investigation by the CBI into the allegations raised in the petition. He alleged that Exalogic received Rs 1.72 crore from Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd (CMRL) as illegal gratification. The petitioner further sought an investigation into the alleged political nexus involving the CM and the companies concerned. In his counter-affidavit, CM Vijayan described the petition as 'politically instigated litigation.' In response, Ajayan asserted that he has no political agenda and seeks no personal gain. The PIL, he said, is based on publicly available records and adjudicated facts, and is aimed at securing an independent investigation in the interest of justice, transparency and the constitutional right to know.
