Buccaneers Have Top-5 Offensive Duo Entering 2025
Buccaneers Have Top-5 Offensive Duo Entering 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offense, led by Baker Mayfield, one could argue, on paper, is one of the most explosive units in football. Advertisement With Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Jalen McMillan, Emeka Egbuka, Bucky Irving, Cade Otton, Rachaad White, and Sean Tucker, the list is long of weapons Baker has at his disposal. After averaging 29.4 points per game last season, with Mayfield having a career year (4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns) and Evans again surpassing 1,000 receiving yards, the Buccaneers are full to the brim with talent. And for Pro Football Focus, when ranking the top offensive duos in football, a nod to their talent and chemistry places Mayfield and Evans at No. 5. "Mayfield and Evans both ranked near the top 10 of their respective position rankings heading into the season, with Evans at No. 9 and Mayfield coming at No. 13," Pro Football Focus writes. "Since Mayfield arrived in Tampa Bay in 2023, his 22 big-time throws when targeting Evans are tied for the second most among duos in these rankings, behind only Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill (28). Mayfield-to-Evans has also produced 2,259 yards over the past two years, which ranks third on this list." Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans (13) is congratulated by quarterback Baker Mayfield (6) after scoring a touchdown against the Chicago Bears.© Kim Klement Neitzel-Imagn Images With the Buccaneers again expected to remain division champions and make a deep playoff run, for both to happen, Mayfield and Evans will have to have a huge impact on the franchise doing so. Advertisement Having been a beacon of high-level production for over a decade, Evans doesn't appear to be hampered by Father Time (yet), and Mayfield's career resurgence since arriving in Tampa Bay has been fascinating to watch. Many expect the Buccaneers to be a good football team in 2025, and Mayfield and Evans are big reasons why. Two high-caliber Pro Bowl players who, when their team needs them to deliver, more often than not, do. And if the 2025 season goes the way Buccaneers fans hope, come next season, they might be a little higher on PFF's list. Duke agrees to home-and-home with HBCU power
NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk State Director of Athletics Dr. Melody Webb and head women's basketball coach Jermaine Woods have reached an agreement for a home-and-home series with nationally ranked Duke, bringing a major HBCU matchup to life over the next two seasons. The Spartans will travel to Duke's Cameron Indoor Stadium on Nov. 12, 2025. The following season, the Blue Devils will make their first-ever visit to Echols Hall. Tipoff times for both games will be announced later. 'This is a landmark moment for our women's basketball program and our university,' Webb said. 'Hosting a nationally ranked team like Duke highlights our commitment to raising the profile of Norfolk State Athletics. It also provides our student-athletes and fans with a chance to experience top-tier competition on our campus.' The two programs have met only once before. In 2002, Duke defeated Norfolk State 95-48 in the NCAA Tournament's first round, shortly after NSU won its first MEAC Tournament Championship. The 2026 visit by Duke will be the first time an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opponent plays at Norfolk State, marking a historic milestone for the HBCU. The Blue Devils finished last season 29-8 and reached the Elite Eight, ending the year ranked No. 7 nationally. 'I appreciate Coach Kara Lawson's willingness to set up this series,' Woods said. 'Collaborations like this help HBCUs gain national visibility. Her return to Norfolk will benefit our program, university, and the community.' Norfolk State enters the 2025-26 season after winning its third consecutive MEAC Tournament title and earning a No. 13 seed in the NCAA Tournament - the program's highest seeding to date. UNC baseball hammers Arizona in the first game of the super regional series
UNC baseball hammers Arizona in the first game of the super regional series After a dominant Chapel Hill Regional, UNC baseball met up with Arizona on Friday in the first game of a best-of-three series in the Chapel Hill Super Regional at Boshamer Stadium. The Diamond Heels ran away with this one early and easily, winning 18-2, despite Jake Knapp struggling on the mound through the first few innings. After going down 1-0 in the top of the first inning, the Tar Heels came back scorching hot at the plate, scoring five runs to boost the lead for Knapp on the mound. Luke Stevenson got back to his usual self after just one single in the entire Chapel Hill Regional. Stevenson had an RBI single and a three-run home run in the first two innings. Gavin Gallaher, the Chapel Hill Regional MOP, went 13-for-18 with three home runs and 10 RBIs in that four-game stretch. He continued his streak with an RBI single in the first inning for his 66th RBI on the season to lead the team. The other player that got involved early was first baseman Hunter Stokely. Stokely hit a three-run homer in the first inning, scoring Gallaher and Stevenson. By the end of the second inning, North Carolina had stretched out an 8-1 lead. Knapp was still struggling on the mound, loading the bases multiple times in back-to-back innings, allowing just one run in both of those scenarios. He ended his day allowing nine hits with two earned runs and three strikeouts over 7.0 innings. The two runs for Arizona didn't matter much as North Carolina just kept piling on the runs in the ensuing innings. Gallaher tacked on another RBI, as did Stokely. Alex Madera got on the board with a two-RBI single in the sixth inning. Carter French scored on a throwing error by Arizona before Stokey hit his fifth RBI of the contest in the eighth inning. You would think that the runs would stop there, but they didn't. Sam Angelo hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning as well, scoring Stokley and Tyson Bass. Kane Kepley had the final run of the game with a solo home run, just two at-bats after Angelo. North Carolina will match up with Arizona for Game 2 of the best-of-three series in the Chapel Hill Super Regional on Saturday at noon. If the Tar Heels win, their ticket to Omaha will be punched. If they lose, they will play a win-or-go-home Game 3 on Monday.
