Kevin Bacon hit with shock career blow

Daily Mail17-05-2025
The Bondsman, starring Golden Globe-winning actor Kevin Bacon, has been cancelled by Prime Video after one season.
The blow to the 66-year-old Hollywood vet's career was announced by Deadline on Friday, and it came one day after he took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes look at the show.
All eight half-hour episodes of the Blumhouse Television series came out on April 3 following a SXSW premiere.
According to the outlet, the Bondsman earned a spot on the Nielsen Top 10 streaming rankings in its premiere week, sitting at number nine on the Originals chart with 563 million viewing minutes.
But by its second week on the streamer, The Bondsman had tumbled off the chart altogether.
However, the show has stayed on Prime Video's Top 10 list, holding the number five slot in the US.
Despite impressing critics and viewers and averaging 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, the series has not been able to create momentum online.
The short-lived program followed resurrected bounty hunter Hub Halloran, who 'gets an unexpected second chance at life, love and his nearly forgotten musical career —only to find that his old job now has a demonic new twist,' according to an IMDb synopsis.
Bacon engaged his Instagram audience of 4.6 million this week, sharing a video showing how makeup artists apply his character's tattoos and scars.
He captioned the post, 'TV magic: Hub's tattoos in #TheBondsman.'
Kevin has been married to wife Kyra Sedgwick since 1988.
They're parents to 33-year-old daughter Sosie and 35-year-old son Travis.
The movie star used social media to give a shoutout to his spouse on Mother's Day, sharing throwback photos of her with their kids and writing, 'I'll take any excuse to celebrate you. Happy Mother's Day @kyrasedgwickofficial, I love you and our family.'
While appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show in April, the proud husband revealed he first met his wife when she was just 12-years-old and he was 19.
It happened in 1978 when they first crossed paths as young actors.
He recalled, 'I will tell you that I was doing a lot of Off-Broadway, many years before that. I was 19 so she was 12, I think.
'Her mom had seen me in some plays Off-Broadway, and she knew that little 12-year-old Kyra wanted to be an actor.'
Sedgwick's mom bought tickets to attend one of his shows, and they ran into him while he was on a lunch break.
'I was buying a sandwich in the deli around the corner. This 12-year-old girl came up and said, "Hi, I liked you in the play."'
The couple met for the second time in 1987 when they were cast in the movie Lemon Sky.

Carlos Alcaraz was desperate for Emma Raducanu to be his dream partner

Certain tennis fans have spent the summer arguing that Carlos Alcaraz's mixed-doubles partnership with Emma Raducanu was the US Open's idea, and came about for commercial reasons, rather than being an organic arrangement between two old friends. Telegraph Sport is only too happy to torpedo this cynical view, which paints the tournament's marketing department as sport's answer to Mrs Bennet from Pride and Prejudice. In fact, the charismatic pairing was very much Alcaraz's preference. After being told about this 'reimagined' version of the US Open mixed doubles, which has been moved to the preliminary 'Fan Week' and granted a $1m (£740,000) first prize, he took only three days to settle on Raducanu as his ideal team-mate. 'We try not to get into the matchmaking business,' said Eric Butorac, the former doubles professional who has overseen this afternoon's groundbreaking event. 'In February and March, we went to a number of agents and players and told them what we were intending to do. We reached out to Carlos's team and explained the format. Albert [Molina, Alcaraz's agent] said, 'Yeah, I think we very much want to participate in this.' And I think it was not more than three days later that they called back and said, 'His partner will be Emma.' So we had nothing to do with that.' While the US Open's organisers may not have been involved in Alcaraz's choice, they must have been delighted to hear about it. The duo – whose variety of portmanteau nicknames will presumably settle down towards either 'Alcaranu' or 'Raducaraz' – are easily the most eye-catching of the 16 teams on show. This is largely due to all the speculation that has surrounded their social-media interactions. Since Raducanu's sudden emergence in 2021, Alcaraz has made a point of liking a high proportion of her posts. Fans have leapt to the conclusion that Alcaraz has a crush on Raducanu, and their decision to enter the mixed-doubles event together has only fanned the flames of speculation. According to those familiar with online fads, the intense interest around these two popular young players is part of a phenomenon known as 'shipping' – which is defined as 'the practice of fans desiring or imagining a romantic relationship between fictional characters or real-life individuals'. Raducanu has done her best to scotch the theories, informing reporters during Wimbledon that 'we're just good friends'. Previously, she had explained: 'I remember he beat Stef [Tsitsipas] in the third round [of the 2021 US Open] and it was like a big win, his breakout win on a big stage and it was really cool to kind of go through that tournament together. We have a good relationship still. He's obviously overtaken me a lot, but it's nice we have that from a while ago.' "Of course I was going to say yes." 🤩 Emma Raducanu explains how Carlos Alcaraz asked her to be his US Open doubles partner 🤝 — BBC Sport (@BBCSport) June 23, 2025 The chances of 'Raducaraz' taking the court for their first scheduled match – which happens to be against fellow British No 1 Jack Draper and his partner Jessica Pegula this evening – grew significantly stronger on Monday night. This was a side effect of Jannik Sinner's unfortunate illness in Cincinnati. Alcaraz and Sinner, who have shared the last seven major titles between them, contested the men's singles final on Monday afternoon. Had they fought out a three-hour barn-burner in Ohio's intense heat, Alcaraz might have thought twice before taking the court in New York less than 24 hours later. As it happened, Sinner was unwell, and retired from the match after only 23 minutes' play. So very sad to see 💔 @carlosalcaraz comforts a disappointed Jannik Sinner after the World No. 1 is forced to retire due to illness. @CincyTennis | #CincyTennis — ATP Tour (@atptour) August 18, 2025 Sinner is thus extremely unlikely to show up for his own mixed-doubles appointment, in which he and one of the world's leading female doubles player Katerina Siniakova were due to face Belinda Bencic and Alexander Zverev (a man who also suffered from dizzy spells during Saturday's Cincinnati semi-finals). Previously, Sinner had been paired with American No 3 Emma Navarro, but she withdrew from the mixed doubles at the weekend. In fact, it was their unexpected partnership which had originally given everyone the mistaken idea that the US Open had selected the teams. During a press conference on the eve of Wimbledon, Sinner had been asked why he was playing with Navarro. He shrugged, looked slightly confounded, and replied that 'the tournament wanted us to play together'. According to Butorac, though, this was a simple misunderstanding. 'Jannik did say that, which was funny, because I sat down with his team in Rome, and they were asking who was looking and I gave them a list of names. I don't want to say all the names, but they said, 'How about we go with Emma Navarro?' And I said, 'That's up to you guys.' 'Jannik said later that we had set them up,' Butorac told Telegraph Sport. 'But that was probably one of the bigger misconceptions. We didn't have that much of a hand in facilitating the teams. In the majority of cases, players just found a friend. Maybe they had a shared agent or a countryman or woman they wanted to play with. 'There were a few people that reached out. Sinner was one. I said, 'Well, here's four or five women that I've heard from that I know would be interested to play with you. Feel free to reach out to any of them.' 'So we certainly help players, just as we always have a 'looking' list for doubles on site every year. We did a little bit of that, but I wouldn't call it matchmaking, really.'

Wendy Williams looks in good spirits as she steps out for dinner in NYC after responding to shocking dementia test results

Wendy Williams looked in good spirits as she arrived at Tucci restaurant in New York City for a meal on Saturday. The former daytime TV queen, 61, was all smiles as she was escorted into the venue by the restuarant owner Max Tucci. Wendy cut a stylish figure for the outing as she donned a white shirt dress and cinched her waist with a grey belt. The TV star also wore a pair of white trainers and carried her things in a large tan handbag. Wendy has been living at a luxury assisted-living facility in New York since being placed under court-ordered guardianship in 2022. The broadcaster was diagnosed in 2023 with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia, but she insists she's not incapacitated and wants out of the guardianship, claiming she's being controlled against her will. Results from her new medical evaluation — described as involving 'a significant number of tests, both medical and neuropsychological, and scans including brain imaging' — prompted doctors to issue an opinion regarding Williams' neurological condition and diagnosis, according to legal documents obtained by People on Tuesday. While the paperwork itself does not explicitly list her condition, sources claimed the exams confirmed Williams has frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and aphasia - and now she has issued a retort to the allegation. She declared on Saturday that her attorneys were 'highly upset' about the recent coverage surrounding her present state of health, via Page Six. Wendy was also asked if she wanted to say anything to her guardian Sabrina Morrissey, but replied only that 'I want to say hi to my attorneys, Allan Diamond and Joe Tacopina. And I will get out of guardianship.' She made the remarks while arriving for dinner at Tucci's. In the new documents, an attorney representing Morrissey requested that the court extend the guardianship for an additional three months, setting a proposed end date of November 5. The attorney also noted that 'complications have arisen' because various parties — including counsel for certain family members, Wendy's ex-husband, and others — have indicated plans to challenge both the guardianship itself and Ms. Morrissey's role as guardian. The news came almost a month after Wendy and powerhouse attorney Joe Tacopina were spotted outside Scott's restaurant in NYC, where they confirmed a lawsuit is coming. 'Those responsible for her status, her, basically, incarceration, will be held accountable,' Tacopina told TMZ. 'There's no question about that.' He didn't hold back, adding: 'This guardian process is scary. She was misdiagnosed.' 'What's next is hopefully justice,' Tacopina continued. 'This process has been so long, it's really despicably slow.' Then, gesturing toward Wendy, he added, 'This is Wendy, the same Wendy, we've had conversation over six months, she's the same Wendy Williams that you know from TV. She belongs in a facility like I belong in a facility.' 'She is a person in control of her faculties and is a great human being… and it sickens me… this isn't a case for me, it's a cause…' Wendy jumped in with a laugh, saying, 'I just had a birthday and I'm still in a guardianship. If that doesn't say enough, I don't know what does.' Tacopina wrapped it up with a clear mission: 'My goal for now and the priority is to get her back home.' He added, 'Wherever home is… where she can come and go as she pleases.' Wendy was placed under the guardianship of Sabrina Morrissey in 2022—and in a bombshell court filing last November, Morrissey claimed Williams was 'permanently incapacitated' due to her dementia battle. In March, Wendy made a bold move by retaining a new legal team to fight for her freedom and challenge the court-ordered arrangement. The star hired Tacopina - who recently represented A$AP Rocky - to help secure her freedom from her three-year conservatorship. Since then, a #FreeWendy movement has gained momentum. In a dramatic moment caught on camera in early April, Williams was seen banging on her facility window while supporters rallied in the street below, demanding she be released.
