High expectations and famous name, Texas QB Arch Manning has a lot to live up to

We all owe Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning an apology. It is not fair to have this much hype and attention surrounding you before officially beginning your football career as the starting QB. But from expectations, to his immense talent to his famous family, Manning will have to deal with more scrutiny at the beginning than any other college football player. The media attention has been almost crushing since Manning got on campus, but it has really ramped up now that he's the starter. How Manning will do. Will he be as good as Eli? Will he be as good as Peyton? Where he will go in next year's NFL Draft? Even though he hasn't declared any intentions past this season. Even his own family adds to that attention. Recently, Manning's grandfather Archie told Texas Monthly Arch would stay in school two more years. "I don't know where he got that from," Arch Manning said after practice on Tuesday. "He texted me and apologized about that, but I'm really just taking it day by day right now." The hype has gotten so intense, even columnists are apologizing to Manning. "Let me be the first to apologize to Arch for all of this nonsense. For the hype and the hyperbole, for Las Vegas and the Heisman odds, for failure is not an option, for putting the horse before winning a road game as an SEC starting quarterback." - Matt Hayes of USA TODAY Sports Can Manning handle it all? He seems built for it, but the attention is unprecedented.

Arch Manning earns spot on Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watch list

ARCH MANNING TAKES IT 67 YARDS TO THE HOUSE WITH HIS LEGS 😱It's the longest rush by a Texas QB since Vince Young in 2005. With the start of the college football season less than two weeks away, high expectations are high for the Texas Longhorns. They are currently ranked as the top team in the nation and have been a popular team in preseason watch lists. That continued one Tuesday when Arch Manning earned a spot on the preseason watch list for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. The award is given each year to the top senior or upperclassman quarterback set to graduate with their class. For many, Manning's latest recognition comes as no surprise. He is seen as one of the best quarterbacks in the nations and has impressed at Texas when given the opportunity. During the 2024 campaign, the New Orleans native completed 61 of his 90 passes for 939 yards. He also found the end zone nine times and averaged 93.9 yards a game. While filling in for an injured Quinn Ewers, Manning was a threat with his legs, recording 108 yards on 25 attempts. As Maning showed fans a taste of what the future held, excitement started to build in Austin. The Isidore Newman High School product was also able to take care of the football, only throwing two interceptions. So in his college career, Maning is 2-0 as a starter. ARCH MANNING 49-YARD TOUCHDOWN TO DEANDRE MOORE JR. 🔥STOOD IN THE POCKET AND DELIVERED A DART 🎯 Over the last few weeks, Manning has been a popular name in headlines. He has also earned spots on preseason watch lists for the Davey O'Brien Award, Walter Camp National Player of the Year Award, and Maxwell Award. At the beginning of the month, he was named First-Team All-America by The Sporting News. When it comes to the Johnny Unitas award, the Longhorns have had success in the past. Last season, Quinn Ewers was named a Top 10 finalist for the award. The last Longhorns quarterback to win it was Colt McCoy in 2009. If Manning can meet his high expectations, then he could join McCoy as the only Longhorns QB to take home the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award when the winner is named in December. College Football 26 sim spells doom for Arch Manning, Texas

College Football 26 sim spells doom for Arch Manning, Texas originally appeared on The Sporting News Arch Manning is one of the best QBs in the nation, although he wasn't rated as such by EA Sports' College Football 26. The Texas Longhorns are considered by many to be the best team in the nation, as evidenced by their Preseason AP Poll rank. It would not be a surprise, then, if Manning guided them to their first title in quite some time. They're the betting favorite for that, so that's the safe pick. However, according to several College Football 26 simulations, that might actually be far from safe. After going through 50 simulations by FOX Sports, Texas wasn't the most common champion. That honor was a tie between Clemson, Georgia, and Penn State, who each won it all in eight of the 50 outcomes. That implies that, based on video game logic, one of them has the best shot at winning the title. Where was Texas? They only won the championship in one of those 50 simulations, which is as many as Duke, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Alabama, Indiana, and Florida. A few exceptions aside, that's not the group Texas expected or would want to be in. Other champions include Texas A&M (twice), Michigan (twice), Oklahoma (three times), Oregon (four times), Miami (four times), and Texas Tech (four times). Perhaps even more shocking than Texas getting one is that Ohio State, the defending champion, got zero.
